So a auto turret with ammunition in it and heavily armoured. Hull compact like the T 72 size but increase in height to accommodate the Crew in the hull with both front and side armoured heavily.
Pretty much but the weight will have to be in the 60 - 65 ton range. I mean, even with such pathetic turret armor, the Armata weighs 55+ ton, so no way we can keep the overall weight limited to 50 ton or below.
Not necessarily... Such drastic change would mean change in CG affecting tranch crossing, gradient climb etc. (will take lots of trials). Weight increase by 5t would mean changed suspension, changing the tracks, change in rollers & driving gears. Then there's engine & transmission.

But if you just add a box with blowoff panels, behind our T-90's turret that open into the crew compartment, there won't be any significant weight increase.... However, the platform will become dramatically safer, and will also free up space in the hull for maybe an APU.

upgrading electronics is not a big deal.
As you'd rightly pointed out for Serbian M-85AS1, subsystem upgrade can cost more than the tank... as it is not the hunk of steel that raises the cost in modern tanks.

It's a mm wave frequency hopping AESA giving it superior LPI characteristics , no need to turn of anything :troll:
Superior but not undetectable..
Here is another scenario.. There is a group of armata tanks which are targeted using a large number of airburst fragmentation artillery shells or sub munitions, damaging the sensors or radar.. Then these Armata tanks turrets are targetted by tank fired APFSDS rounds . What happens then, with Afghanit compromised..?

I think that developing our defence industry and modernising our armed forces is never a priority for our politicians.

It is really depressing that even a small jihadi infested country called Turkey is having better defence industry than us.
Ya'll Nibbiars That's the power of the private industry when we are infested with the OFB then what do you expect? When could had the one of the best tanks in the world giving run to the every tank in the world. But we stuck with Videshi Maal. Arjun heavy. MK 2 more heavy. Vijayanta rusting. T 72 Upgrades waiting.

@Bleh T 90 s dosent have a Auxiliary Power Unit? Now I can understand why the MBT 70 was heavily armed but still with a weight of just 50 to 55 Tonnes.

I wasn't talking about the T-90, but rather a new design altogether.

Why does weight matter if P/W ratio is high enough?? Focus should be on increasing power instead of minimising weight imo..
Imagine installing engine of Buggati which churns out a whopping 1120 HP on a tank
Another consideration should be given to unmanned tanks which will relieve the designers about the safety of the crew....

Sab chutiyapa hy. Tank-Ex was 4man, 47.5t... Just like they wanted.

Ok, maybe Ruskies doesn't allow it as T-72 upgrade. But what was stopping the choots from building on it as China did?.. Could have gone for new platforms instead of buying 1000 more T-90s with fuckall protection! 🤡

True that, I was just trying to be nice.

Nah, its protection is adequate as of now but it's lacking in every other category.

New 125 mm DRDO round is 550 mm.

What would be the penetration of APFSDS under mango project . Is it meant for T-72 / T-90s current gun/autoloader ?

Well.. atleast Himalayas which might be our primary front in the future would need sub 50 ton tank...
Not really.... most of the equipment is being moved fire Kashmir & the Rohtang tunnel.

At the Himalayas itself the ground is quite hard and their the ranks T/W ratio, gradient climb & gun dipression matters most.

Not necessarily. You can bring a 60 ton MBT up there if adequate transportation infrastructure is made available.

And as Bleh said, you need a great deal of gun depression if you want to inflict the heaviest amount of damage to the enemy at the lowest damage to your own and you can't have that kind of depression with a 50-ton tank and provide adequate armor protection as well, it's just not possible, not with the current state of our material sciences.

Most bridges in ladakh support tank+trailer = 70 tons
