I think it's the Zoom Sniper Optic from OFB converted India Optel Limited . The one that is fitted on OFB 7.62×51 sniper
That’s what I initially assumed too, but after closer examination it’s slightly different. But the one on the gun lacks these 2 components.

If th rifle barrel is the same then it's not 'used as a DMR'. It is still only a battle rifle with a scope.
I think you meant to quote me instead of @AlphaRaiderZ, and I still stand by what I’ve said as the guy essentially has a SIG 716, with a higher powered scope and a bipod, what else is he supposed to be other than a designated marksman in a squad with other guys carrying Sig 716s with BEL Holographic sights and CG RCL.

A DM and a guy with a scope are two different things. A DMR' will have a heavier barrell. A scope on a battle rifle allows you to simply engage at the outside ranges of the rifle/bullet. That's not what a DMs role is

What is that white thread kind of a thing at the front?
The SIG 716s have provision for slings that use Quick Detach(QD) mounts, which Indian Army lacks as they still use old school mounts as seen on AKs and INSAS.

Hence jugaad methods are used by our troops to use a sling on the 716s like tying it to the stock and handguard.

If they still want to use old slings they need to buy sling mounts that attract to the QD provision like this:

Reason is because they’d rather win votes in UP

Common ground-level Yadav-Jats don't care about what army procures. This is hardly a election decision, more like Make-In-India push.
At last, forces at ground-level will suffer like always, whether it is greedy Chandigarh lobby blocking homemade or reluctant politicians blocking import.

I mean because Amethi is where AK203s will be made so they’d rather sacrifice Sig deal for more screw driver work in UP. Who cares about messing up logistics and hampering frontline units right?

There is no official confirmation of a cancellation. The deal is tiny ($70-72 million) compared to other cancelled deals and has more immediate value in terms of utility.

Other major projects like the Mig 29s, Klub Missiles, Heavy Weight Torpedoes, P 8i , etc have been put in a Foreclosure and Deferment List aka backburner for now.

Also no publication including this article from India Today has confirmed that the Sig 716i deal has been cancelled, just that it is under review.

Even Times Now mentioned that the deal was under review. As a thumb rule, defence deals not mentioned publically during a blood letting are generally considered 'safe'.

Actually the Sigs coming in are sub MOA accurate which means they are more accurate than any other self loading rifle in our inventory. The Sig with a scope is far more capable than the dragunovs in our Inventory.
