$1600 was tender price for GALIL ACE.

DI with double ejector in the bolt will help with removing dirty rounds like OFB 7.62x51 mm. Additionally the mid length gas system burns most residue before it enters the chamber which itself is coated in Nitride.

Full auto is for CQB role. That's where it is needed.
You don't expect someone to use a 7.62 NATO gun for CQB, right? Also, nowadays, full auto fire is used only for suppression fire at long distances. Not CQB. But I didn't know about the double ejector. That certainly solves many issues. But I still think using full auto on a battle rifle is overkill.

Average CQB range is < 100m nowadays. That is where KE of 7.62x51 mm rounds is highest.

In the future PA and PLA troops wil be wearing LVL III and IV body armor plates which need to be penetrated at such short ranges.

Thus the choice of round is apt. The only other alternative is 6.5 mm which US has not yet adopted and India has no plans to do so, atleast in the foreseeable future.

6.5mm 123gr has about the same energy at 100m as 123gr 7.62*39. It isn't really meant for AP. Agree with the rest. Though we'll need projectiles like M80A1 black tip if we are to penetrate level 4. Which I don't think we use.

We are going for steel core 7.62x51 which has more armor penetration than usual brass/soft core rounds.

Let me see how many are in a state to fight after a short burst from an AK or SiG .. Level III/IV notwithstanding.

Given pricing and requirements, Sig 716i is the best. DI shines with full automatic fire in 7.62x51 mm due to low recoil, mid length gas system and double ejector.

GALIL @ $1600 is pure fraud. Too overpriced for what it brings to the table.
The price of Galil would have been much lower if we had pursued it even Vietnam is producing them cheaper to replace Aks.

Advantage of Sig is its price and quality but that aside its not going to work in all terrain as swiftly as galil can. Sig 716 GP version was better but they offered DI to win the tender. Their production quality and standard were also a major factor apart from usual middle men they had here.

Caracal 817 offered better deal but due to price difference lost it.

Regarding Full auto ( rarely used) and will have LMG for suppression and for CQB nope it's not meant specifically for it but for infantry. They will use it in all circumstances but doesn't mean we are getting Signs for CQB.

Aks and carbine with under 200- 300m will be used for that.

Anyway as said earlier Sig is done and dusted. It's already in and will rise upto 2 lakh around. Not the best deal but a great improvement over what we had before.

Now Carbine and Ak deal are the one to be seen how they play out.

Not enough to penetrate level IV. Not in one shot, anyway. But 3-4 bullets should do the trick. But the blunt force would have incapacitated them by then. Do you have info on the bullet (projectile) weight?

Not if manufactured en masse. Use a steel case, and a 100-110gr projectile with a hard steel rod, it should be as cheap if not cheaper than 7.62*39 to manufacture.

A few shots (2-3) should incapacitate them regardless of what armor they are wearing.

Simply use DMR based rifles with AP ammunition. I expect some Sig 716i will be configured for that role in every platoon.

Steel core 7.62x51mm penetrates 10 mm RHAe at < 10m which is sufficient for most LVL 4 armor except for some really high end ones.

Is the Sig 716 that is ordered G2 patrol version or DI version.

I thought it was DI version, however Shiv aroor reported G2 version.

If it is indeed G2 patrol version, then India did a good job in negotiating the price to 990$.

It is not G2, it is the Tread version.

I can't see the gas adjuster on any of the SiG 716's posted on Shiv's blog. They are the DI version, not the G2 Patrol.

As these SiG's are modeled on the AR platform, adapting to M-4 or similar AR platform would be a lot easier.
