At a time the Indian Army really needs it, comes more state-of-the-art military equipment
New Delhi: With the Ladakh face-off still on and no certainty about when it's likely to end, the Indian Army will get 73,000 Sig Sauer 716 assault rifles from the United States of America. This was today cleared by the Defence Ministry's Services Capital Acquisition Plan Categorisation Higher Committee (SCAPCHC), that includes top military officials and bureaucrats. The total cost for the rifles is about Rs 800 crore.

This is over and above the 72,400 assault rifles already purchased from Sig Sauer. As this Is a repeat order, there will be no need for trials and cost negotiation, which is often time-consuming.

The assault rifles have come as part of the plan to ensure that the infantry, most in use along the line of control and also, inside Jammu and Kashmir against terrorists, the best possible weaponry possible. A consignment of light machine guns have already been purchased and also, sniper rifles while Kalashnikov assault rifles will be manufactured in India in the future. India is also negotiating for a new carbine that the infantry urgently requires. The Sig Sauer 716 will replace the INSAS rifle that came to the infantry about 20 years ago. They will be able to use locally made ammunition.

The assault rifles will also be useful for troops along the line of control, where they are often targetted by terrorists, supported by Pakistan army commandos in what is called BAT or battle action team attacks.

I never stated anything about left or right hand, i talked about "off hand" means your non-dominant hand which stays on handguard...not trigger hand.
The position of Non-Dominant hand is here 90° canted- the palm is facing 9 o' clock side of picatiny rail...although this does not prove anything about C-clamp grip while shooting, may be it just regular hand on bottom grip while shouldering the rifle as we saw earlier videos of soldiers firing this rifle.
Yea that's just because they're holding it muzzle-down. Even the AKs and INSAS are held like that in this position by pretty much everyone in Army/Police/CAPFs. It doesn't translate into C-clamp when shooting though.

One thing that is very commendable about US arms industry is the speed with which they have delivered the products after contracts have been signed. Be it chinooks, Apache, P8 poseidons or the Sig assault rifles. Unlike Russians they don't take a lot of time.
Nor do they compromise with quality. Infact in general people in UK and USA are pretty punctual and professional when it comes to work ethics.

The SIG 716i TREAD is retailing for approx. $1,300 - a significant reduction over the 716G2's approx $2,000+. No doubt the inclusion of direct impingement as opposed to gas piston, plus the financial cushioning provided by the Indian order, help to reduce the asking price significantly.

Are these design patented? Means other conapnies can't make a replica of it with slight changes?
No.
"Circumnavigating" patents can be way more difficult than developing something new. Coz that's what patents are designed to prevent.

Companies can sue a hefty amount or even worse, take the whole profit made by the violating company on sales of disputed products.

We make our own buttstocks don't we?
What's so special about the Magpul ones?

Yup, we make.

But, they are
1. either copied. (SSS ones)
2. or not up to the quality. (OFB ones)
3. or not AR buffer tube compatible. (INSAS series)

And no matter what polymer shit Magpul comes with or how much they are overpriced, Magpul is the defacto standard all over the world. Even Russian SF use them, and that too after paying almost twice the market price.
