Can any one please explain me why have we deployed female soldiers in Kashmir?
What if they are kidnapped?
They in all probability will be in a low-risk area or surrounded by male soldiers to protect them. Female army docs(probably nurses too) do serve there since long, and I believe they r extremely protected as well.

I feel @Bhadra can give a conclusive answer since he is from Service.

Defence ministry sets up panel for better functioning of service headquarters

The new committee has been constituted as a follow-up to the recommendations made by the Lieutenant General DB Shekatkar committee in its report on enhancing the military’s combat potential and rebalancing defence expenditure.

Defence minister Rajnath Singh has approved the setting up of a three-man committee to identify posts in the service headquarters that are currently held by civilian officers but need to be manned by military officers with necessary domain expertise for effective functioning, people familiar with the developments said on Saturday.
The new committee has been constituted as a follow-up to the recommendations made by the Lieutenant General DB Shekatkar committee in its report on enhancing the military’s combat potential and rebalancing defence expenditure. A key recommendation in that comprehensive report dealt with aspects related to the effective utilisation of the armed forces headquarters civil service (AFHQ-CS).
Shekatkar will chair the new three-man panel consisting of R Chandrashekhar who retired from the AFHQ-CS and AN Das who is from the defence ministry’s finance wing.
While identifying posts that need to be manned by military officers due to their expertise is a key task assigned to the panel, it will also conduct a study and identify appointments in service headquarters that may fall within the domain of AFHQ-CS officers due to their longer tenures and expertise, according to the terms of reference in the government order reviewed by Hindustan Times.

Shekatkar told HT that the setting up of the panel was a step in the right direction as it would improve the overall functioning of the service headquarters and inter-services organisations. He said the committee was likely to submit its report in November.
Military and civilian officers hold posts in different wings of the service headquarters and inter-services organisations including administration, finance, policy formulation and coordination, personnel management, training, vigilance and legal matters.
The Shekatkar panel made 188 suggestions in its report submitted in December 2016 of which around 100 have been accepted by the ministry and others are under consideration. The defence ministry is working towards implementing more recommendations made by the panel.

In May, the ministry announced that more than 9,300 posts in the Military Engineer Services (MES) would be abolished as a follow-up to the recommendations made by the Shekatkar committee. The MES is a construction and maintenance agency of the armed forces and has an annual budget of around Rs 13,000 crore.
The ministry said the recommendation to cut the posts (9,304 out of total 13,157 vacancies) was aimed at making the MES an effective organisation, with a leaner workforce well equipped to handle complex issues in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
The recommendations made by the Shekatkar committee relate to several organisations including the MES, Defence Research and Development Organisation, Directorate General of Quality Assurance, Directorate General of Defence Estates, the Ordnance Factory Board and defence accounts.

The panel’s recommendations also covered optimisation of signals establishments, restructuring of the army’s base workshops, revamp of ordnance depots, better utilisation of supply and transport units, closure of military farms and army postal establishments in peace locations and improving the efficiency of the National Cadet Corps.

Army HQs do require civilians because it is a very huge organisation and can not be run exclusively by uniformed manpower. How ever, keeping civilians at some important and key posts has proved very harmful and dangerous for Army, specially the MS Branch and AG's Branch that deal with personnel matters and postings.

Army HQ in Delhi is bound to have maximum civilian employees from Delhi and adjoining areas- say Haryana etc. It is similar to saying CDA(O) Pune will have maximum employees hailing from Maharashtra.

This local civilian cadre and army personnel belonging to Haryana, Meerut, Mathura etc develop an unholy nexus so much so that it results in many being called as "Haryana Generals". Let us face reality as this state of affairs is real. That nexus needs to be broken.

Some of the organisations which have a preponderance of civilians are very crucial for the efficient functioning of the Army such D&V. LWE. Engineers Branch. MS Branch, Records, PS, Welfare, QMG. If the numbers of civilians is increased there the personnel matters of IA will suffer greatly. Some bright Generals who have not worked there do not fully understand it.

Secondly, the restructuring should also aim at MoD particularly there needs to be a drastic reduction in Finance Wing of MoD and cutting CDA employees by 2/3. They have bloated under MoD unnecessarily and are the biggest negative elements of MoD. The Finance Wing needs to be brought at par with Finance wings of other Ministries and this colonial Vistage of CDA needs to be shed at priority one.

Thirdly, officers not getting exposure to AHQ and MoD at young service of Maj and Lt Col will lead to lack of exposure at senior level. The working hand of AHQ are Lt Cols and not Generals.

There are a lot of female officers deployed in Kashmir but only officers so far. In CI / CT operations there is no front and no rear. It is an operation without lines or frontiers though Kashmir does have a frontiers vis a vis Pakistan. So I can say that there is no protected environment in the valley. Every place including Badami Bag Cantt is CI/CT area.
Indian Army bu now has a lot of young lady officers ( I really do not know if they are Women Officers and can be qualified to be called as Lady in strict usage sense. In OTA they are called Woman Cadets and their entry is WS) . They are deployed everywhere with their units and workstations. Doctors move everywhere but nurses do remain confined to Military Hospitals.

As a front line infantry or special forces soldier only one establishment has woman soldiers battalions who carry out all deadly jobs of their counterpart male soldiers including para jumps and free falls and capable to carry out special operations for which they are trained.

Yes, there indeed is a threat if a Woman officer is ambushed and captured by the terrorists. why only that, there is also a threat to their safety while in the units.......:pound:

But Woman, belligerent or not, face the burnt of all enemy aggressions and we have had a history of our mothers and sisters being sold in Baghdad, Arab world and Afghanistanistan multiple numbers of times. So it is better to fight and die rather than being taken like a goat or committing a Johar.

There was/is an ITBP Mahila battalion deployed in Ladakh. You can imagine how many intrusion of Chinese troops must have taken place there.

Anyone who has seen or been to a Girls NCC battalion during camps can tell you how talented and smart the girls are compared to boys..

So make your opinions... Country's experiments with Woman in Police ranks has not been very pleasant. The best officers to give you an opinion on the subject would be the Instructors of OTA who train the Women Cadets.
