New Delhi: The Indian Army on Saturday slammed as “lies deceit and deception" comments from Pakistan that accused New Delhi of using cluster bombs against civilians in Kashmir.
In a statement, an Indian army spokesman said: “The Pakistan army regularly attempts to push terrorists through infiltration and opens fire with a multitude of weapons to assist them (infiltrators)."
“India during numerous Directorate of Military Operations level talks has maintained the right to respond. Such responses are only against military targets and infiltrating terrorists who are aided by Pakistan army," the sharply worded statement said.
The Indian army statement followed Twitter posts by Pakistan’s foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and the spokesman for Pakistan’s armed forces as well as Pakistan’s People’s Party leader Bilawal Bhutto slamming India for what they described as atrocities against Kashmiri civilians.
“Strongly condemn the blatant use of cluster ammunition by Indian Security Forces targeting innocent civilians along the Line Of Control. This is clear violation of the Geneva Convention & International Laws," Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a Twitter post.
Qureshi also posted a collage of pictures that included those of young children and adults with bandages and injuries in hospital. The pictures were not dated and therefore there was no way of ascertaining who and where the injured people were or which hospital was giving them medical attention.
This was followed by a comment on Twitter by Asit Ghafoor, spokesman for Pakistan’s Armed Forces who said in his post: “Use of cluster bombs by Indian Army violating international conventions is condemnable. No weapon can suppress determination of Kashmiris to get their right of self determination. Kashmir runs in blood of every Pakistani. Indigenous freedom struggle of Kashmiris shall succeed."
The two were supported by Bilawal Bhutto who in his Twitter post said: “ Use of cluster bombs by Indian Army in Kashmir is outrageous. India continues to flout international conventions in its bloody attempt to stifle aspirations of the people of Kashmir. The world continues to ignore human rights catastrophe. This must change if we are to have peace."

Situation at LoC under control: Indian Army
Srinagar, Aug 2 (UNI) Asserting that the situation is under control and by and large peaceful along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir valley, a top Army commander on Friday said that regular infiltration attempts are being made by Pakistan-based militants but the soldiers are thwarting their bids.
However, Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Army’s 15 Corps said the Army is fully prepared and will not allow Pakistan and its Army to disrupt peace in the valley.
“Situation at the LoC is under control and largely peaceful. The infiltration from Pakistani side is being attempted regularly and we have been having regular contacts at the LoC. But infiltration attempt by militants, supported by Pakistani Army, is being foiled,” Lt Gen Dhillon, flanked by Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh and ADG CRPF Zulfiqar Hasan, told reports during a press conference here on Friday.
The Army commander said that Pakistan has stepped up ceasefire violations along the LoC in a bid to help militants waiting at launch pads in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). “We have intelligence reports that militants are waiting in launch pads to infiltrate into J&K and disrupt peace. But, our anti-infiltration grid is fully prepared to thwart any attempt by militants to cross LoC,” he said.
He, however, refused to answer the question about the number of militants presently waiting at these launch pads, saying it is tactical information which could compromise their sources or alert militant leadership.
Lt Gen Dhillon said the threat of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in the state, particularly in Kashmir valley, is more "pronounced" in the hinterland. “In the last one year there has been an increase in IED attacks in the valley and security forces are up for the task,” he said.
Meanwhile, the J&K GDP said security forces have destroyed various modules responsible for planning to carry out IED attacks. “Many Over Ground Workers (OGWs) have been arrested while top militant leadership has been eliminated. Most of the militant outfits have been decimated in the valley,” he said.
Answering a question about reports of additional security forces being sent to the valley, he said security personnel were on regular duty though out the year because of elections, among others, with no time to relax. “There were also fresh inputs of increase in violence by militants which made it necessary to strengthen the counter intelligence grid on the ground,” he added.

Indian Army goes the ‘electric’ way in Delhi
The Army’s green effort aims at ensuring “economy, efficiency and minimal emissions”
Leading by way of example and underlining its commitment to clean air and environmental protection, officials of the Indian army will be using electric cars in the national capital, considered one of the world’s most polluted cities.
The initiative, starting with the flagging off of the first lot of 10 electric cars, has been launched in partnership with Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), a joint venture of Central public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the Union power ministry which has been the main facilitator in providing these vehicles to various government agencies.
The e-cars were flagged off on Thursday by Quartermaster General Lt Gen Gopal R to mark the World Environment Day. The Army’s green effort aims at ensuring “economy, efficiency and minimal emissions”.
At the forefront of environmental initiatives, the Indian Army “has a large number of Territorial Army Battalions (ECO) which have done a yeoman service in environmental protection initiatives such as forestation,” an Indian Army release said.
“Army units posted in remote and ecologically sensitive areas from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari have been carrying out various activities in close coordination with local populace to conserve the ecological balance and protect the environment,” it added.
Electric vehicle technology has proved to be a viable alternative by reducing the carbon emission footprint. Indian companies like Tata Motors and Mahindra have taken a lead in R&D and manufacturing of electric cars.

This Foundation In Dehradun Is Training Hundreds Of Girls To Join Indian Army
Youth Foundation (YF), a charitable trust organisation raised by Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, Principal Nehru Institute Of Mountaineering in Uttarakhand now trains girls for their recruitment in Corps Of Military Police in the Indian Army. The foundation started its girl’s camp in Sardar Bhagwan Singh University, Balawala, Dehradun after they realised the importance of training those who eagerly wish to join the forces, but lack the opportunities.
While speaking to The Logical Indian, Suraj Kothiyal, a member of Youth Foundation, said, “The camp has successfully trained about 30,000 candidates of which 8000 have been recruited in different forces and are actively serving the nation.”
Women Recruitment In Military Police
Opening up new opportunities for women aspiring to join the Military Police in the Indian Army, the forces started their online registration in April this year.
A total of 100 seats are available for women candidates to register online for Military Police.
Breaking all barriers, this is the first time women will be inducted as soldiers in the force. This came after the decision of Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announcing that the government has taken a historic and robust decision to induct women in the Military Police, with an aim to enhance their representation in the three services.
Training For Girls
“At present, almost 250 girls from Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli and other districts have started training for the physical tests that will be held during the recruitment rallies,” Suraj says.
Training camps organised by the Youth Foundation has always ensured that the participants will be groomed appropriately to join the military and other forces. Mental, physical and holistic grooming would be provided to help them clear the entrance examination.
The foundation takes services of the retired army personnel in training the candidates while the trained teachers are deployed in the camp who prepare the candidates in clearing the written examination part.
Coach Rekha Agnihotri, a mountaineer from Nehru Institute Of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi, has been actively training women for the physical tests which include marathons, long jump, short jump and others. She predicts that the number of girls in the camp is likely to increase and the candidates, who will pass the physical tests, will also be provided training for the written exam by Youth Foundation.
“The schedule of all the girls is well monitored. From early morning physical training to classes on theory and computer, to games and rigorous exercises, the girls are actively preparing to join the forces,” Suraj Negi, one of the administrators at the Youth Foundation told The Logical Indian.
These trainings are provided free of cost with free boarding and lodging facility available to all candidates by the foundation to offer job opportunities to the deprived section of the society. Most of the candidates that are selected hail from the underprivileged section of the society.
“By providing training to the young girls of Uttarakhand, we want to prove that daughters of Uttarakhand have the potential and valour to join Indian army and make the nation proud,” says Colonel Ajay Kothiyal, KC, SC, VSM (Retd) says.

The organisation has held several camps in the past that has prepared boys for many forces in the country. In 2013, out of thirty-two participants, 28 were recruited in the prestigious Garhwal Rifles of the infantry.

“We had some information about women recruitment in the Army following which we organised two camps in 2018, one in Balawala with 350 girls and the other in Srinagar with 250 girls. The camp continued for about six months,” Negi says.
“The girls are already motivated and strong, we are here just to give them the right direction,” Negi adds.

3 Laborers From Hisar, Haryana Arrested For Spying The Indian Army For Pakistan
Amidst the heating tensions with Pakistan and India, 3 laborers from Hisar, Haryana, were arrested by the Police after they were suspected spies for the neighboring country.
It is believed that the police recovered video clips, pictures, and voice messages sent through WhatsApp.
Officials said that the three were spying on the Indian Army.
The three men were working as laborers at a construction site in an Army Cantonment Area. The three were part of a group that was working at the Mess Building in the cantonment area and were working under the supervision of a Civil Construction Company.
The three men have been identified as 28-year-old Matab from Muzaffarnagar, 25-year-old Shamli from Muzaffarnagar, and 34-year-old Ragib from Muzaffarnagar.
It is reported that the family members of the arrested men were not informed about the arrests of the three.
Haneef, the father of Matab, said that his son is innocent and only went to Haryana so he could have better work and a better life.
A panchayat meeting was also held in the villages of the arrested after the heads of the village got to know about the news.
Muzammil, the brother of Ragib, said that he was not informed about the arrest of his brother

Government to roll back tax on disability pension for forces

At the same time, however, the minister has called on the three services – the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy -- to device a mechanism to reduce instances of misuse of the rules, according to people familiar with the developments who asked not to be named.
“It was felt that a one-size-fits-all policy would be unfair,” said a senior official who asked not to be named, explaining the reason behind rolling back the move. “The minister has taken a serious view of the misuse of disability pension, especially by senior officers including generals in the past. However, he believes that people with genuine disability because of service should not be made to suffer.”
On July 8, the defence minister had told the Rajya Sabha that the decision to go back to exempting disability pension from being taxed was under the consideration of the ministry.
“Orders to reverse to the process have been issued. At the same time forces have been asked to work out a formula to handle instances of the misuse,” added the official cited above. HT has not seen a copy of the order.
According to a June 24 notification by the finance ministry, disability pension and the pension of soldiers who have served their full tenure with the three services would no longer be exempt from income tax. The order said only soldiers who have been “invalidated” during military service will get exemption.
The Indian Army, the largest
of the three services, had welcomed the move on the grounds that the force is witnessing a worrying trend of more soldiers seeking disability pension for monetary benefits even when their medical condition is an outcome of their lifestyle.
But it sparked a row in the military fraternity, with several veterans and experts opposing the move. They contended that the problem was exaggerated and that people suffering from genuine disabilities should not be made to suffer due to the actions of a few unscrupulous people.
In the current fiscal, the government has allocated ~1.12 lakh crore for defence pensions alone. Around 11.2% of Indian Army officers, including generals, and 0.8% of troopers receive disability pensions. There are about 2.5 million retired soldiers in India.
A medical downgrade entitles a soldier to better retirement benefits. On average for the same rank, a disability pension can be 20 to 50% more than a normal one, plus tax exemption.
The 6th Pay Commission in 2006 hiked disability pension to bring parity with other services. The 7th Pay Commission, however, observed that there was a huge jump in disability pension cases, especially among the senior ranks.
A recent analysis by Army HQ showed that a large number of officers, including generals, and those in the medical corps had claimed disabilities for non-physical injuries such as hypertension, diabetes, hearing loss, obesity-linked diseases, and other ailments.
There are two types of disability pensions – “war” and “normal”. War disability is 60% of the last salary drawn in case of 100% disability, and normal disability is 30% of the last salary drawn in case of 100% disability. For non-battle casualties, the benefits apart from free treatment are 30% of the last salary for 51-100% disability and 15% of last pay drawn for 20-50% disability. Both disabilities are exempt from income tax.
In his previous stint as the home minister, Singh had pushed for welfare measures, especially for troopers.
“The decision to reverse is welcome. There is no doubt that some unscrupulous soldiers had misused the facility. The military should devise a method to stop this. I suggest all cases of officers, men who got disability in their last rank needs to be reviewed. For had they got disability before there last promotion they may not have got the promotion, that would check misuse,” former deputy chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Raj Kadiyan (retd) said.
Chairman of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement, Major General Satbir Singh, said: “We were ready to move the court, but decided to give the new defence minister more time and importantly he had also given an assurance to Parliament. In the Kargil conflict, 527 soldiers died and 1,367 were disabled. Is the country trying to say that 1,367 soldiers are now a burden? At the same time, however, the minister has called on the three services – the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy -- to device a mechanism to reduce instances of misuse of the rules, according to people familiar with the developments who asked not to be named.
“It was felt that a one-size-fits-all policy would be unfair,” said a senior official who asked not to be named, explaining the reason behind rolling back the move. “The minister has taken a serious view of the misuse of disability pension, especially by senior officers including generals in the past. However, he believes that people with genuine disability because of service should not be made to suffer.”
On July 8, the defence minister had told the Rajya Sabha that the decision to go back to exempting disability pension from being taxed was under the consideration of the ministry.
“Orders to reverse to the process have been issued. At the same time forces have been asked to work out a formula to handle instances of the misuse,” added the official cited above. HT has not seen a copy of the order.
According to a June 24 notification by the finance ministry, disability pension and the pension of soldiers who have served their full tenure with the three services would no longer be exempt from income tax. The order said only soldiers who have been “invalidated” during military service will get exemption.
The Indian Army, the largest
of the three services, had welcomed the move on the grounds that the force is witnessing a worrying trend of more soldiers seeking disability pension for monetary benefits even when their medical condition is an outcome of their lifestyle.
But it sparked a row in the military fraternity, with several veterans and experts opposing the move. They contended that the problem was exaggerated and that people suffering from genuine disabilities should not be made to suffer due to the actions of a few unscrupulous people.
In the current fiscal, the government has allocated ~1.12 lakh crore for defence pensions alone. Around 11.2% of Indian Army officers, including generals, and 0.8% of troopers receive disability pensions. There are about 2.5 million retired soldiers in India.
A medical downgrade entitles a soldier to better retirement benefits. On average for the same rank, a disability pension can be 20 to 50% more than a normal one, plus tax exemption.
The 6th Pay Commission in 2006 hiked disability pension to bring parity with other services. The 7th Pay Commission, however, observed that there was a huge jump in disability pension cases, especially among the senior ranks.
A recent analysis by Army HQ showed that a large number of officers, including generals, and those in the medical corps had claimed disabilities for non-physical injuries such as hypertension, diabetes, hearing loss, obesity-linked diseases, and other ailments.
There are two types of disability pensions – “war” and “normal”. War disability is 60% of the last salary drawn in case of 100% disability, and normal disability is 30% of the last salary drawn in case of 100% disability. For non-battle casualties, the benefits apart from free treatment are 30% of the last salary for 51-100% disability and 15% of last pay drawn for 20-50% disability. Both disabilities are exempt from income tax.
In his previous stint as the home minister, Singh had pushed for welfare measures, especially for troopers.
“The decision to reverse is welcome. There is no doubt that some unscrupulous soldiers had misused the facility. The military should devise a method to stop this. I suggest all cases of officers, men who got disability in their last rank needs to be reviewed. For had they got disability before there last promotion they may not have got the promotion, that would check misuse,” former deputy chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Raj Kadiyan (retd) said.
Chairman of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement, Major General Satbir Singh, said: “We were ready to move the court, but decided to give the new defence minister more time and importantly he had also given an assurance to Parliament. In the Kargil conflict, 527 soldiers died and 1,367 were disabled. Is the country trying to say that 1,367 soldiers are now a burden? Anybody trying to disrupt peace in Kashmir will be eliminated, Army warns Pakistan

NEW DELHI: With Pakistan upping the ante over Centre's move to abrogate Article 370, which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army on Friday warned that anybody trying to disrupt peace in Kashmir would be eliminated.
The warning from the Indian Army came in the backdrop of Pakistani political leadership and its armed forces making statements threatening India over its Kashmir move.
In an interview, Chinar Corps Commander Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon said that "Pakistan and its Army has always been involved in disrupting peace in the Valley and I believe that they would continuously do it."
"Recently such statements have come out openly of threatening about certain incidents in the Valley. Notwithstanding we will take care of all of them. Let anyone come and try and disrupt the peace in the Valley, we will have him eliminated," Lieutenant General KJS Dhillon said.
The Chinar Corps Commander also rejected Pakistan's claim that Indian Army used cluster bombs along the Line of Control last week, terming it ''Pakistani propaganda.''
"No such issue was there," Dhillon said while warning that in case the Pakistan Army violates ceasefire again, the Indian Army would "respond hard and with full strength."
Commenting on July 30 incident of heavy shelling by the neighbouring troops, Lt Gen Dhillon said that Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing by use of air defence guns and artillery.
''Since it was an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan, the Indian Army reserved the right to respond, and responded at the military targets from where the fire had come,'' the top Army commander said.
On reports of infiltration attempts being made by Pakistan, he said, "All infiltration camps, launch pads are full of terrorists, and the Pakistan Army is assisting them by providing covering fire and even guiding them into its own territory through the Line of Control".
The comments from the Chinar Corps Commander came a week after the Indian Army successfully foiled an attempt by a Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistan Army in Keran sector and killed seven to eight of them.
The Indian Army also asked Pakistan to take back the bodies but its troops refused to do so.
Lieutenant General Dhillon said that besides maintaining peace and security, the army personnel have been going to villages and helping people to talk to their relatives via mobile and satellite phones.
Moreover, the Army is also providing them with treatment and free medicines and ferrying them to other places for further treatment.
He said, "The Valley is completely peaceful. There is no need to panic. But there are certain security restrictions basically for the safety and security of the 'Awam' (people)".
Security has been beefed up across J&K after the government revoked Article 370 that gave Kashmir special status.
Reports on Friday said that normalcy was fast returning to J&K and schools and colleges were directed to function normally from Saturday.
Jammu district Deputy Magistrate Sushma Chauhan said that Section 144 (which restrict the gathering of more than 4 people) has been withdrawn from Jammu Municipal limits.
In an official statement, she also informed that all school and colleges will open from Saturday i.e August 10

New Delhi: Days ahead of Narendra Modi government that brought a resolution in Parliament to revoke Article 370, Indian Army and other security forces identified the main trouble spots in Kashmir and kicked-off preparations for tackling any possible untoward situation in the Valley post-announcement of the implementation of the decision.

The Indian Army also deployed an additional brigade from the northeastern region in Kashmir to strengthen its counter-infiltration grid on the Line of Control (LoC) to thwart any attempt made by Pakistan Army to push any infiltrators inside the valley. "At various locations especially in South Kashmir region, the local commanders had started preparing for dealing with any attempt of creating unrest. At some places, even Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has reviewed the preparedness of the forces to handle the possible trouble," top Army sources told ANI.
The sources said that though the local commanders were not informed about the specific decision but were given an idea about a big development likely to take place in relation to the Valley. The Indian Army had shifted an infantry brigade from the eastern command to the LoC in Kashmir before the commencement of annual pilgrimage Amarnath Yatra and the traditional infiltration season in summers.
The sources said that the deployments would be enough to tackle the emerging situation in the Valley along with the 45,000 troops of the paramilitary who have been inducted recently to tackle both the Pakistani designs from across the LoC as well as attempts by separatists in the valley to create unrest. The army has put its Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and regular forces in the valley on high alert to deal with any untoward situation.
The sources also informed that there are close to 250 active terrorists in the valley and they would not be allowed to disturb peace in the Valley. The Narendra Modi government has scrapped Article 370 and created Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as two new union territories.

The post has already been shared over 3,700 times till the filing of this story. The misleading post went viral last year too. At that time, it was shared more than 1,78,000 times.
Using In-Vid tool, we reverse searched the video and found some news reports from Kashmir which had details about the incident.
According to Rising Kashmir and Kashmir Observer, four residential houses and a cowshed in Lachipora village were destroyed in a blaze on March 27, 2018.
It was reported that at least 20 animals had died in the incident and seven families were affected. According to news reports, police could not ascertain the cause of fire. We did not find any news report claiming that Indian Army was responsible for the incident.

A small mosque in village Sadpora was damaged, some houses were hit and a woman was injured, locals say.
"When the shelling started kids were in school and we didn't know what to do," said Raja Nasir Ahmed recalling the horror.
Locals say a bus driver Arshad Ahmed Khan suffered a heart attack and died while he was driving when the shelling started. Khan is survived by his wife and three children.
"Usually there are 40-50 people during namaz in the mosque. Luckily, nobody was there that day otherwise many would have died," said Khalil-Ur-Rehman, the local sarpanch.
This small mosque is metres away from the LoC in Tanghdhar. It was severely damaged in the heavy shelling by the Pakistan army on July 30.
It wasn't just here that Pakistan resorted to artillery fire. There were ceasefire violations in Keran, Gurez, and Macchil, but that fizzled out as there was early detection.
Sources say a massive infiltration attempt to push in terrorists was the real reason behind Pakistan escalating matters at the LoC. The terror camps that were silent after the Balakot air strikes are also active now.
While attempts made by the Border Action Teams known as BAT in military parlance were foiled, sources said amid the escalation, a group of 4-5 Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists infiltrated successfully.
In one such BAT action in Keran, four infiltrators were killed by the Indian Army and their bodies were found on the Indian side of LoC. The bodies still lie there with Pakistan not claiming them.

Journalist Crosses Line Again, Compares Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat With General Dyer

Lucknow: A journalist, who was arrested for sharing an ‘objectionable’ post against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on social media, crossed the line again when he compared Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat with British General Reginald Dyer, infamous for Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Prashant Kanojia tweeted an image where he posted the picture of General Rawat beside General Dyer and captioned it as Kashmir and Jallianwala respectively.
He tried to insinuate that General Rawat’s role in Kashmir is similar to that of Dyer, who had ordered the massacre in Jallianwala Bagh on April 13, 1919, when hundreds of civilians were killed including women and children.
The tweet is no longer available and it is not clear whether the tweet has been deleted by Kanojia or the Twitter has taken it off, but it certainly was in bad taste, especially for a highly decorated Army chief.
General Rawat, with lots of experience in high altitude warfare and who spent ten years conducting counter-insurgency operations, has been awarded for gallantry and distinguished service with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Sena Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal.
Navdeep Singh, a former military reservist and High Court lawyer called the tweet as Cheap, loathsome, abhorrent, shameful.
In June, Kanojia was arrested by UP police and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against him at Hazratganj police station, under IPC section 500 and 66 IT Act, in which it was alleged that the accused made “objectionable comments against the CM and tried to malign his image”.
Later, the Supreme Court asked the government to release him immediately, questioning the grounds of arrest. But the Court’s observation also made it clear that probably he should not have published or written that tweet.
The tweet comes at a time when the Indian Army is not only fighting at the Line of Control against unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistan but also at a time when they are working along with disaster management teams to rescue people from the flood-affected areas.
