Indian Army seeks 4,800 sniper rifles with 78 lakh rounds of ammunition
The hunt for around 4,800 sniper rifles with 78 lakh rounds of ammunition. The Army recently issued a request for information to local defence firms. Sniper rifle - A semi-automatic or bolt action long gun, equipped with a scope. Sniper rifles allow soldiers to hit intended targets from long distances. Defence Procurement Board had announced the acceptance of necessity in May.

The Army is looking at a light tank with a maximum weight of 25 tons — with a margin of 10 per cent — with the same firepower as its regular tanks, but also armed with Artificial Intelligence (AI), integration of tactical surveillance drones to provide a high degree of situational awareness and loitering munition, along with an active protection system.

Eye on China threat, Army launches Project Zorawar to deploy light tanks for mountain warfare (theprint.in)

Typical Army. A LIGHT tank of no more than 25 tonnes, but WITH APS (which weighs 2.5 tonnes on its own), AI Integration (to what end?) tactical drone AND loitering munition (tank hai ya artillery battery) - and it should be amphibious to boot.

Might as well ask it to fly on its own power to the frontlines, no?

That's 1625 rounds per rifle.

They might expend as many as 40 rounds per week during training and this is a very conservative figure.

This is quite less without accounting for damaged/not fit for use bullets.

How many rounds do regular RR troops fire every month as part of their drills and training?

If you are training to be a sniper 40 rounds per week is not going to cut it. In the US soldiers training to be snipers fire about 120 to 200 rounds per day during training.

40 rounds is the minimum quota that water carriers and sweepers fire on range day.

I quoted the lowest figure ever to emphasize that 1625 rounds per rifle are not a LOT as per OP.

It was developed based on the requirement of the Indian Army to enhance the protection levels against unconventional enemy weapons. This kit has been designed for urban warfare which gives protection against RPGs,7.62mm and 14.5mm A.P shots.

Its just a plain old Slat Armour. Its a WW2 technology.
It was shame that we hadn't incorporated Slat Armour on our vehicles earlier.
Slat Armour disrupts the shaped charge of the warhead by either crushing it, preventing optimal detonation from occurring, or by damaging the fuzing mechanism or preventing detonation outright.
It generally cause premature detonation of Tandem charge (i.e. before Tandem charge hits ERA) and/or shaped charge.
