DRDO Developed 5.56x30 MM Protective Carbine Successfully Undergoes Trials In Extreme Weather Conditions5.56x30 mm Protective Carbine undergoing trials
Defence Research and Development Organsiation (DRDO) designed 5.56x30 mm Protective Carbine has successfully undergone the final phase of User trials on 7 December 2020 meeting all the GSQR parameters.
This has paved the way for induction into the services. This was th last leg of trials in a series of User trials which have been carried out in extreme temperature conditions in summer and high altitudes in winter.
JVPC has successfully met the stringent performance criteria of reliability and accuracy in addition to quality trials conducted by DGQA.
JVPC is a Gas Operated Semi Bull-pup automatic weapon having more than 700 rpm rate of fire.
The effective range of the carbine is more than 100 m and weighs about 3.0 kg with key features like high reliability, low recoil, retractable Butt, ergonomic design, single hand firing capability, and multiple Picatinny rails etc. These features make it a very potent weapon for Counter Terrorism operations by security agencies.
The carbine has been designed as per Indian Army’s GSQR, by Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a Pune based laboratory of DRDO. The Weapon is manufactured at Small Arms Factory, Kanpur while the Ammunition is manufactured at ammunition Factory, Kirkee Pune.
The weapon has already passed the MHA trials and procurement action is initiated by the CAPFs and various State Police organisations.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh had unveiled the 5.56 x 30 mm JVPC during DefExpo- 2020 at Lucknow.
Secretary DD R&D & Chairman DRDO Dr Satheesh Reddy has congratulated DRDO team, user team and all public and private agencies involved in manufacturing for successful reaching this milestone.

Five Pakistani soldiers were killed and three injured in an overnight retaliatory action by the Indian army along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, Defence sources said.

"Pakistan initiated unprovoked firing and shelling targeting civilian facilities in Mankote sector of the LoC in Poonch district on Thursday.

"Damage was caused to civilian properties due to indiscriminate targeting of civilian facilities by the Pakistan army.

"This necessitated befitting retaliatory action by the Indian army in which five Pakistani soldiers were killed and three injured. Several of their bunkers have also been destroyed", sources said.

Firing exchanges between the two sides lasted for 2 hours.

Since the beginning of this year, Pakistan has with impunity violated the bilateral ceasefire agreement signed by the two countries in 1999.

30 civilians have been killed and over 100 injured in over 3200 ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the LoC in J&K since January 2020.

Lives of thousands of people living in villages close to the LoC in J&K have been on the edge because of cross LoC shelling.

The authorisation to maintain war wastage reserves for 15 days of intense combat is significant on so many different fronts .

It implies that the GoI is seriously considering q possibility of two front war with a primary and a secondary front. That the present dispensation wants to be ready for any eventuality.

An extra 5 days of reserves for intense combat will give us the required cushioning and head room required in case things suddenly go south..

This will require additional budgetary outlays and according to the article arms, ammunition, spares ,missile systems worth Rs 50000 crores are being bought to bring up our stocks to 15 I levels .

All this when our direct and indirect tax collections have hit rock bottom and the govt is struggling to find ways to finance new projects . Shows the govt's intent to take on any adversary or a group of adversaries / hostile nations simultaneously and not let them compromise India's national interests and undermine our sovereignty and threaten our territorial integrity .

The best part is the authorisation was given some time back and we have already started making the requisite procurements.
