India prepares to face nuclear attacks, plans underground bunkers in major cities for protection against WMDs: Report

India is reportedly planning to create underground control rooms in major Indian cities that could secure data and communication against an attack using Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs) such as nuclear, chemical and biological.

According to a report in ‘Sputnik’, Delhi Police has identified two locations in India’s national capital for the first phase of the initiative.

Quoting its sources in Delhi Police, the report says that senior officials and concerned departments are in the process of preparing the initial plan for setting up an underground data control room, which will be submitted for government approval soon.

“A recently held security review meeting discussed the necessity of secure data communication networks center. The idea is at an initial stage. We are preparing a detailed report then we would be able to share details only at a later stage,” a senior Delhi Police official was quoted as saying by ‘Sputnik’.

Better infrastructure exists which are portable, But still risking this way is not justified, Army must inspect and pin point out lacking defenses in major outposts and must give top priority to upgrade them.

It surely can stand, But its not in our country, Better look what is available within country ..

The best available raw material remains cement and bricks ( If available ), Towards front-line its hard to transport such raw material and workers, All is meant to be done by soldiers with given tools and material.

In such a case, Complete modules are best assembled at field transported by air or mules.

================

PAK army had such examples which were transported via mules and assembled in our area ..

Is this a reused tank gun? If yes a brilliant idea to use it as part of shelter or bunker in border areas. We can use all decommissioned tank and get some safe enclosure for our troops. Some innovative thinking can do wonders.

Iraqi are using their outdated T-55 in very innovative way, In our case we can do the same for static strong hold along our defense ..

where are these bunkers located at..? i mean indo-pak or LOC.? I'm sick of watching these tin sheds...a anti-tank guided missile will wipe it off completely..We need to reinforce with concrete immediately
Where does our 40$ billion goes for...

I feel its a good idea to use decommissioned battle tanks to build pill boxes at active borders with Porkistan. The battle tank steel plates can stop all light, medium and heavy caliber rounds used by porkies and also protect from mortar fragments. We can have a design to optimize the use of the turret and safety of the pill box by integrating it with a underground bunker. We should have a big stock of T72's or earlier battle tanks available.

We get tank plates used as blades to shear metal in industries, when it can be recycled why not reuse.

Good idea but they require engine to rotate and fire. It will require a lot of fuel to run generators. I would say bring in Decommissioned tanks and use them like this way turret down position

We have many Vijayantas, T 54, T 55 and Centurions in reserve I think.

Or this

Protection from sniper, mortar, ATGM, MMG and artillery.

Not good idea it's a useless idea...since they cannot move..it will be easy prey for mortar rounds...

Their are many tiers of defense lines along LOC, Such designs are best for third tier ..

If we cant build this type pill box

We should go for WW1 era trench system.
Trenches are susceptible to Mortars and plunging fire.

@Kunal Biswas , do we change the pillboxes' position often? Or are they static? Also, i suspect OPs regularly do change there position. Does that happen often?

If we do keep them static, could we not go for concrete bunkers. I am thinking Nazi-style bunkers like these:-

Are they not cost effective? Or is there some other reason?

Also, why are something like HESCO bastions not used?
