Indian army foils PLA's incursion attempt at Pangong
DHARAMSHALA, JUNE 30: With less than a month since Chinese foreign minister visited India reports have emerged of several attempts by Chinese soldiers to enter Indian waters at the scenic Pangong lake, according to PTI ( the Press Trust of India).

PTI cited sources in various government agencies that the Indian Army had a face-off with the Chinese counterparts as recent as June 27. However, there has been no official confirmation of this incursion from the authorities in the Indian Army. This is the first reported incursion bid by China since Narendra Modi became India's Prime Minister last month.

According to sources cited by PTI, Chinese troops were intercepted at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the lake and sent back after the face-off drill during which the army personnel on both sides waved banners, a symbolic expression claiming it to be their territory.

The incursions have taken place in eastern Ladakh and on the northern bank of Pangong Lake, located 168 km from Leh, where more than a hundred thousand devotees are expected to attend teachings and Kalachakra initiation by the Tibetan leader Dalai Lama from July 3.

The situation along the banks of Pangong lake has always remained volatile with Chinese troops being intercepted by Indian Army patrol several times after the three-week long stand-off in the Depsang plains of Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) in May last year.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Indian Army, General VK Singh is scheduled to visit China from Wednesday on a three day visit during which he is expected to meet General Fan Changlong, the vice-chairman of China's Military Commission. Singh will also address the PLA academy and meet with Chinese Foreign Ministry officials.
