The tweet is based on an old report from may 2022. It's not credible , latest news sources say that EMI EMC trials are already complete.
Didn’t IA recently say they were sending ATAGS back out to do engineering/maintainability trails or some such nonsense?

Apparently a few procedural trials are still left

Elbit Athos emerged as L1 bidder when competitive trials were conducted between Elbit Athos and Nexter Trajan.

Elbit's local manufacturing partner is Kalyani.

Nexter's local manufacturing partner is L&T.

If Elbit elbows everybody out, then Kalyani gets to manufacture the gun in India. Either ways its a win-win for Kalyani.

Tata has plenty of pies on its plate so it can give it a pass but the entire arty procurement would cost upwards of $10 billion(conservative 2018-2019 figures).

Why has IA issued an RFI? Have they already zeroed in on a gun?

Elbit emerging as L1 bidder in a previous trial as late as 2019 would not qualify it automatically as L1 because three years have passed since and with Covid thrown into the price matrix, I doubt the offer in 2019 holds good as of today. The whole price negotiations will have to start all over again, Nexter will throw its hat in, DRDO & OFB, MoD will go to town crying foul and we could see a withdrawal of the RFI itself.

Anyway, towed artillery is in the import ban list so the only way Athos gets inducted is by partnering with an Indian entity read Kalyani or someone else. Time will tell.

If people involved in procurement have been following the Ukraine-Russia war, they can't miss 'big is beautiful' in artillery. Hope they don't bury the ATAGS without a fair trial all in the name of gaining geostrategic depth or kickbacks.

Same old story then. DRDO gets a product close to service and then the Indian service concerned floats a global bid with specs tailor made to disadvantage the DRDO/IDDM product.

it happens time and again, don’t know why we expected it to be different this time

K-9 Vajra which ways over 45 tons has no mobility issues nor does the weight damage roads/bridges but the ATAGS has all the mobility and added weight flaws.

At last the IA gets their priced asset the Athos. It has been a long journey, years of hard work to undermine the indigenous efforts, interview after interview of gaslighting. Congratulations!!
It was a obvious from day one. Originally towed 155/52 were left off the negative import list for ‘reasons’

and the way the ATHOS talk never went away, this whole saga has been scripted.

they’ll get a few 1000 ATHOS and then a consolation order of 150 ATAGS will be placed so they can proclaim atmannirbharat for PR

Provided ATAGS ship with laser based ignition system as a technology demonstrator.

Then they will give an order to OFB or some other entity to upgrade existing primer based ATHOS, other arty guns to laser based ignition system.

Fully Loaded ATAGS is 20 Tonnes. Unless PMO interfered directly this is basically suicide of Indigenous industry.
You build complete ecosystem of Artillery solution and choosing one foreign product. Already Small arms went to Russies even though we are making copy of AK in OFT. That is stuck in some limbo since Russia is fighting a war.

Shame to say we cannot plan and produce a small arm we are waiting for Russia to end the war so we can start production of 203.
