1.13 On the issue of new products/projects being formulated/launched and outsourcing of Research and Development work done by OFB, the Ministry in its written reply has stated as under:

‘OFB has taken up in-house R&D projects for Indigenous Design and Development of Futuristic Infantry Combat Vehicle (FICV), Air Defence Gun, Electronic Fuze, 7.62x51 mm Assault Rifle, 155/52mm MGS, Dhanush SP Gun etc.

Question(s): Will Mountain Strike corps also be based on the concept of "maneuver-by-fire" (on which the artillery divisions of the plains strike corps are based)? If so, then will these be the only formations to have a Brahmos block-III (or any kind of Brahmos) in their TO&E? So the rest of the mountain corps are without Brahmos support?

We need more Brahmos.

Kunal Bhai have you notice the destroyed and abandoned Building of JKLF with only it's flag remains. That Paki officer was trying to sell the snake oil to that foreigner that the building was owned by Kashmiri Political "activists" gather there and Indian justified the shelling of the town because of the presence of terrorist in the town. That reporter too didn't convinced with the Paki officer.

The Pak Army commander was himself hiding in the Bunker while 300 ~ Shells pounded the Athmuqam and only had the courage to visit the town when Shelling stop. Paki civilian leaving the town in total chaos lol

Ordnance Factory Board aims to create self-suffiency in defence production

KOLKATA: Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) has drawn up plans to make India self-sufficient in production of arms and ammunition with the twin objectives of reducing imports and meeting nation's requirements.

"We are creating added capacities in the production of T-90 tanks and Pinaka rockets at the various ordnance factories", S K Chowrasia, member, OFB, said.

Chowrasia, who is slated to assume the office of chairman of the board from December one, told PTI that work was also on to create additional anti-tank ammunition capacity under Project Mango in technical collaboration with Russia.

The OFB had also started production of Bimodular Charge Systems (propellants) at its factory at Nalanda for high-calibre artillery guns, Dhanush and Bofors, with the objective to meet the country's demand, he said.

The country was facing a shortage in the availability of such propellants, he said.

Regarding exports, he said that the board had received an order from the UAE worth Rs 235 crore for the supply of 155 mm shells.

OFB had been exporting to the countries of South Asia, Indonesia, Germany and US and the approximate export turnover was Rs 50 crore.

"While we do export to some extent, the primary objective is to meet the nation's demand", he said on the occasion of Ordance Factory Day.

This fiscal, the board was expected to register an approximate revenue of Rs 15,000 crore as against Rs 13,500 crore in the previous period.

The projected turnover next fiscal had been pegged at Rs 20,000 crore.

OFB had also undertaken designing of Future Infantry Combat Vehicle for the Indian Army in collaboration with the IITs.

Union minister Arun Jaitley, who was appointed the Defence minister just days ago after Manohar Parrikar stepped down to become the chief minister of Goa, met Russia’s Minister of Trade and Industry Denis Manturov at Manekshaw Centre on Friday. Manturov is on a two-day visit to India to focus on issues related to the $1-billion Indo-Russian deals including Kamov-226 helicopters, the progress of Project 1135-6 frigates for the Indian Navy and T-90 tanks for the Indian Army, among others. Soon after the meeting, Arun Jaitley said, “India is one of the largest importers of defense equipment in the world, and this definitely is not a label we are happy with.” Addressing a conference on India-Russia Military and Industrial cooperation, Jaitley called for deeper bilateral engagement in defense production. He said that Russia should at least facilitate manufacturing of parts and subsystems, which are needed in large numbers and where the requirement is recurring in nature.
According to FE Bureau, “Besides meeting with the new defense minister Arun Jaitley, three sets of meetings have been planned for the visiting minister. He will meet officials of Indian Army, Navy and the Air Force. The interaction between the Russian side and the Indian armed forces, as well as the industry, is to see how all can work together as a support system.”
On the day, two agreements were signed at the conference between India’s Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation and United Engine Corporation for the long-term supply of spares and technical assistance for Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft for five years.
Saying that these moves are part of the larger defense and economic agenda chalked out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India, FM Jaitley said, “PM, after forming the government, launched the Make in India initiative; defense production is identified as one of the key areas under this.”
Earlier today, Defence Minister Jaitley while intervening in the Lok Sabha during a debate had said that the Indian armed forces were fully prepared to meet any challenge and asked the Opposition to be very careful about conveying the impression that they were not due to lack of procurement.

The government has approved the acquisition of specialised artillery guns that will move on tank-type tracks to accompany tanks and mechanised regiments to battle. The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the purchase of “tracked self-propelled” artillery guns, sources said today. Indian company Larsen Toubro (L&T) will produce the gun in collaboration with a foreign partner. The project for 100 guns will cost around Rs 4,200 crore. Deliveries will be completed within three years. The gun, “K-9 Vajra-T”, is a 155-mm/52-calibre self-propelled howitzer. It can hit targets at a distance of 45 km. Its specialty will be tank-type tracks to move as support firing with the armoured columns. The Ministry of Defence and the Army had completed the evaluation process of the L&T gun and other guns in September 2015 and bids were opened in December that year. This will be the second major artillery gun programme approved in the past two years. In June last year, the MoD approved the letter of acceptance for US supplier, BAE Systems, for 145 ultra-light howitzers (ULH) of the 155 mm variety. The ULH was the first formal deal for the 155-mm gun since March 1986 when 400 pieces were purchased from Swedish company AB Bofors for Rs 1,500 crore. The Army’s Field Artillery Rationalisation Plan, drawn up in 1999, talks of acquiring 2,800 guns by 2027. It talks about 155 mm guns of all kinds — 1580 towed guns, 814 truck-mounted guns, 100 tracked self-propelled guns,180 wheeled self-propelled guns and 145 ultralight howitzers.

CCS clears $650 million self propelled gun deal of 100 K9 Vajra-T. The K9 Vajra-T is a variant of the South Korean K9 Thunder SPH. The deal has an option for 50 extra systems.
L&T will manufacture them at their facility at Talegaon, Maharashtra.
