Indian Army Will Soon Have NBC Protection Suits To Counter Pakistan's Tactical Nuclear Weapon
NEW DELHI-- Keeping an eye on Pakistan's nuclear tipped non-strategic battle-field missile, India will soon acquire 1500 advanced Nuclear Biological and Chemical (NBC) protection suits for its Armored Personnel Carriers (APC).
The acquisition will cost the exchequer Rs 1265 crore. This decision to acquire the NBC protection suits was taken at Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting that is chaired by the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
The NBC protection suits will be built by Bharat Electronics Limited and will be designed by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), sources said. "APC we use now have a manually operated NBC suits, there is need for better and full automated advanced NBC suits".
The advanced NBC protection suits will have censors that will detect in coming threats and take action on its own to protect the solider, the officer added.

Those are some nice photos of the Arjun. What was the source for the 105mm armed Arjun?

Hello, in an interview conducted with Alpha Design Technology's Chairman Col. H.S. Shankar this November, it was mentioned that ADT had delivered 1000 TIFCS for T-72 and 969 TISK for BMP-2 to IA.

Here's a link to the interview : http://www.aviation-defence-universe.com/alpha-design-technologies-made-small-step-giant-leap/

In another interview conducted on Feb 2015, he said this “We started fitting Thermal Imager Fire Control Systems (TIFCS) in November 2014. So far, 170 kits have been supplied to the army,” and this "It has already supplied 300 thermal imager standalone kits (TISK), which improves night vision for main gun firing and also missiles. By September this year, 969 vehicles would be upgraded"

Anyone ever seen a T-72 or CIA with TIFCS TI sights? I've only seen TI sights installed in these old photos of a CIA Tech Demonstrator by CVRDE.

These tanks with TI sights did not enter service with the Army and Army CIA variant is still equipped with IR illuminator sights.

Any idea who's doing the TI sight upgrade for both T-72 and BMP-2? AW 506 or HVF Avadi?

Sorry for potentially stupid question. I'm reading this wikipedia article:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_nuclear_explosions

Would such a suit protect a soldier from the blast damage and thermal radiation which together account for 80% of the total effect of a nuclear explosion according to the wiki? Or would they only be effective against EMP and ionizing radiation produced after the blast?

^think its the latter part. Also those suits are more for troop protection while traversing through an irradiated area, after aftermath (ie some time after bang). No suits can protect you, if you are in the vicnity of a blast

Kunal - lovely! Made my day! That isn't a 20mm cannon though. It is an iron tube to prevent the mounting of a weapon - indicating that the vehicle has been decommissioned.

Blast from the past, We had better fighting vehicles than today ( Mahindra Rakshak ), Heavy vehicle factory Armored patrol car based on Nissan 1 ton in Army at J&K ..

==========================
==========================

Some of them are still preserved, One can mount a 20mm cannon on it ..

Go through the link : http://www.drdo.gov.in/drdo/labs/CVRDE/English/index.jsp?pg=Products.jsp
I think vehicles like these could be very usefull and easy to produce. That said our Military Industry complex is so much fucked up that we can not produce even able to outright purchase anything let alone devolve it

Its not our Military Industry complex is fucked up its your thinking, Army is the largest user Indigenous made & developed systems, Let it be logistical fleet or infantry weapons or back bone of Artillery and aviation so does majority of Armour ..

Get your fact right before posting right ..

Im not blaming just Army here. Our design and Development agencies are highly lagging too.
There is visible lack of coordination between the two.

And above all our clueless MOD and political system. They have created a mess.

Something to withstand the shock wave of a nuclear blast and the after effects:-
Not sure how well it is protected against the heat and high energy radiation during the blast.
