What is the cost of LCU which France operates ?
The LCU France operates are very old so that price doesn't compare, but the LCATs cost only $38 million. It is far more capable than what India is making.

Since we do not know anything about displacement and capacity of these vessels its not fair to talk about the price.

GRSE is over burdened with naval orders. just yesterday they launched an inshore patrol vessel for Indian coast guard. moreover its fine that these ships are coming within 3 years as there sole purpose is to replace the older lcus in service since 1980s. the displacement of these lcus will be 800 ton and will be powered by 2 diesel engines.
but nothing more than this is released.
in my view these ships are ordered to replace older LCUs which are deployed on magar class landing ships.( 2 in service and they require in total 8 LCU) that means 500 soldier 15 MBT and 8 apc on 4 lcu. dividing it gives more men and material per lcu as compared to french lcat which can carry one platoon with 3 apc at a time.

Its a trick, after completing these vessels in 3 years GRSE will proudly say that they have done before the schedule. But any normal shipyards can easily finish these within a year.
I agree this is pretty standard operating procedure for most PSU managers, they tend to inflate the time required for most projects so that projects can be completed on time and they can claim tohave achieved their KRA's for the year.

We do know something, they will be 800t with two engines. They are not LCU but small LST so they will not be going on any transports but island ferries.

they are for taking troops and vehicles from landing docks to land. in India bigger transporter are landing docks not landing ship utility.

Some details from RFI http://www.irfc-nausena.nic.in/rfi/RFI_INTERNET_LCM.pdf

Troop Capacity without vehicles : LCM should be able to carry 150 troops with gear.

(b) 02 X BMP
(c) 01 X ALS + 02 X Jeep
(d) 02 X 2.5 Ton trucks
(e) 04 X LMV

Cargo Capacity Cargo carrying capacity should be more than 55 tons.

Dimension
(a) Length Not more than 23 m
(b) Beam Not more than 6.3 m
(c) Draught not to exceed 1.6 m in full load condition.
(d) Displacement as per design.
(e) Height from keel to top of pilot house is not to exceed 5 m.
(f) Dimensions of cargo well should not be less than 13.7 m in length and 4.9 m in breadth

how do you know they will be 800t ? Its not in RFI.

These are of USN's LCU.

Displacement:200 long tons (203 t) light
375 long tons (381 t) full load
Length:134 ft 11 in (41.12 m)
Beam:29 ft (8.8 m)

Compare this with ours.

Dimension
(a) Length Not more than 23 m
(b) Beam Not more than 6.3 m
(c) Draught not to exceed 1.6 m in full load condition.
(d) Displacement as per design.

So no way ours will be more than 200 tonnes.

Just compare the dimensions and tonnage of ours with USN's LCU. Check post 16.
yaar even Indian corvette are having displacment of several thousand tonnes while french weigh just few hundred tonnes.

requirement and sophistication of india and world are different

Dude you are missing the point, If the tonnage is 800 as told in press then the dimension should be much larger than the one given in RFI.

If GRSE is going to build these vessels according to RFI means it ll come much lower than 800t, even lower than 200t.

grse are making these lcu which will be used along side the lsd which were built by grse back in 1980s and 1990s. they are just making modified version of older lcus with indian navy. modern control system and engines with better protection suite. nothing more we should expect

But it does not match with LCUs operational with other navies.
Mate, Indian RFI names do not meet international names. IN sends out RFI to DCN for an LHP when it says an LPD. IAF sends out RFI for an MMRCA and they include little fighters. What they call an LCU is actually an LST. They don't care about the accuracy of the name.
