An Indian Navy (IN) MiG-29 KUB ('Fulcrum-D') fighter crashed off India's west cost on 16 November while on a routine training sortie.
According to the IN, the twin-seat trainer encountered a flock of birds soon after taking off from INS Hanse, the naval air base at Dabolim in Goa, resulting in both its engines catching fire.
The two aircrew ejected safely after manoeuvring the trainer away from populated areas. This was the second accident since January 2018 invlving the IN's fleet of 45 MiG-29K/KUB, which were acquired between 2004 and 2010 for USD 2.29 billion.
