Copying this tweet here for those who would be interested in cost comparison in future when IAF signs for additional Rafale.

🇦🇪 UAE getting 80 rafale for 16 billion euros... out of which 2 billion dollars is for weapons & accessories package.

Orders for 30 by Egypt & now for 80 by UAE will bring down the prices... without doubt.

So procurement of additional rafale by IAF 🇮🇳 is foregone conclusion.

Numbers will be between 54-78 aircraft.

To add: Egypt got the 'additional' 30 rafale for $4.5 billion.

16 Billion euro Is 18.10 usd .
So 226 million per Rafale.

Seems on par with 242 million for much smaller indian order with weapons and accessories.

Who is tom cooper BTW?
Tom Cooper is an Austrian aerial warfare analyst and historian. Following a career in the worldwide transportation business – during which he established a network of contacts in the Middle East and Africa – he moved into narrow-focus analysis and writing on small, little-known air forces and conflicts, about which he has collected extensive archives. This has resulted in specialisation in such Middle Eastern, African and Asian air forces. As well as authoring and co-authoring 50 other books and over 1000 articles, including the extensive series on African and Middle Eastern air forces and related air wars, Cooper is the editor of Helion’s five @War series.

On the flip side now since the French got the deal , India might have tough time to negotiate with them ..Also the timelines of acquiring the aircrafts might also increase from 3 to 5 years ..
Good for MK2

Good for us isn't it? We need mass production of Tejas Mk2-Astra mk2 combo. Forget Rafale and spend more money on R&d to expedite the induction. For every J11 and J16, there should be 3 Tejas mk2.
At this point its not about Atmanirbhar vs Importgiri, the higher order problem is that we are simply not spending spending enough money on defence.

Where is the incentive for reverse engineering? For kickbacks you need Ruski maal.
Agreed! India needs to restructure the effort for Aircraft Engine Development. Perhaps Spin off HAL engine division into a merger with GTRE and led by the Engine division leader. The tech learnt from AL-31FP should be used to improve domestic capability. We should be looking at the entire spectrum of engines to power fighters, transports, trainers, UAVs, UCAVs. Perhaps put someone from pvt industry in charge and rope in Kalyani’s expertise in materials and metallurgy!

If success will take reverse engineering then that is vitally important to national security!

Amazing how are we even comparing a SE non existing MK2 with Proven ME Rafale ? Just asking first someone said MK2 will be better than Mirage2k now i am hearing MK2 will be better than Rafale . Waaaw and i am sure our baboons would sell another snake oil saying MK2 would cost just half of Rafale so you can buy 2 in the price of 1 .

I know some holes in south block might have got tatti frozen now after seeing all their super mumbo jumbo calculations getting blow away with this UAE deal . But then we deserve what we get .

Call for global tender and take 10 years of non stop bla bla trails and then declare a winner and then arm twist them by tie up with local partner who man hours can't match the original OEMs level and force them to produce bulk of the order here .

After few years cancel the order and throw a piece meal 36 jet order and bla bla ISE specifications and then sit on follow on order quietly trying to see how much more you can arm twist the OEM seeing their desperation for follow on order

Thrown all unbelievable demands like revive our Jet engine program share all our technology give it to us free we won't invest $300 million you do it all and just give it to us on plate .

And now you sit and watch someone place order for 80 Jets without any one of those arm twisting rules and wonder what went wrong .

you let baboons run the show you will get such results

Good for us isn't it? We need mass production of Tejas Mk2-Astra mk2 combo. Forget Rafale and spend more money on R&d to expedite the induction. For every J11 and J16, there should be 3 Tejas mk2.

So slow that by the time order to place C-17 follow on came, Boeing has shut its C-17 manufacture and even discarded its tools. I won't be surprised our baboons order the follow on jets when Dassault itself shuts the production down . They did once with Mirage 2000 offer the same thing now repeating the exact same drama . And then people expect why no one wants to partner with us .Because our track record of being unreliable partner has time and again proven in decision making .

Bhai bhai only we can think like this with our freeloader brains . how will their order will bring down production cost for our jets .

1. UAE is getting F4 not F3R version which we have got , F4 will start production after 2025 only
2. Egypt Follow on order is lesser because there is not cost involvement of weapons and other setting up infrastructure for maintenance which would have been observed in the first lot
3.Dassault is not going to set up extra line to produce because they have more orders they will still produce at Max 24/year currently they are only doing at 16/ year not even 24.

Orders for 30 by Egypt & now for 80 by UAE will bring down the prices... without doubt.

Our order was costlier because we had asked them to include some ISE specifications .
