Coming up Big Turf War between Indian Army and IAF.....
Give airforce some additional responsibility aerospace type force (spacewarfare and cyber warfare) that should help quell their frustration.
But given India is largely a continental power in the order of thing army will always be number 1. All invasion come through land in the case of India. Except the east India company.....

Ya'll Nibbiars Inter service rivalries are always there that's why Manekshaw never beckoned the CDS due to Rhe Navy and The Air force were against it's. And even now the Naval command and the Air command should be divided into three individuals commands with integrated to the bigger theaters command.

If ground attack is such an issue that is disregarded by airforce, then why not get some cheap Su 25 for the theatre command?
A squadron for each theatre under army aviation will be a great addition... just saying at approx USD5mio per plane that could be a good booster.

That looks like SCALP EG missile.
Just having image from front side its difficult to make out but looking at the tip's symmetry I think that is SCALP EG missile.

It doesn't look like ASTAC as its tip runs in top down pattern.
Where is the intake if it's scalp?

They are out of production and close combat fighters require some level of deterrence and/or total air dominance and India to be honest is not that type of force or power to have a great use for these. We just don't bomb easily anyone even when they bomb us (aka drone bombings and parliament attacks)

There are generally no army aviations that require formal runways and radars...most army aviations consist only helos and possibly tactical drones

Wiser after Balakot, India orders missiles worth $700 million from Russia
New Delhi:
After the Balakot strike and the dogfight with the Pakistani air force in February, India is looking to increase its stockpile of missiles with the Modi government ordering weaponry worth about $700 million for the Indian Air Force from Russia.

These include air-to-air missiles with an extended range as well air-to-surface missiles, ThePrint has learnt.

Highly placed sources said close to 300 short-range air-to-air missiles, the R-73, and 400 medium-range air-to-air guided missiles, the RVV-AE, also known as the R-77, have been ordered.

The R-77 is the Russian counterpart to the US medium-range AIM-120 AMRAAM missile. The American make was unsuccessfully used by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to target Indian Su-30 MKIs on 27 February, a day after the IAF strikes on Balakot.

These missiles are designed to arm the Russian-made MiG and Sukhoi aircraft.

The order, meant to boost the IAF’s capability, also includes a radar-busting missile, the X-31, said the sources.

Russia, India eye longer range missiles
Sources said Russia has also offered to help India for future orders with missiles with ranges longer than the ones it currently possesses.

According to Russian Tactical Missiles Corporation, the developer and producer of most of the Russian air-to-air missiles, the R-73’s range is 30 km. The range of its latest version, the RVV-MD, is 40 km.

It’s the same case with the R-77, which can hit targets at a distance of up to 80 km, while its latest version, the RVV-SD, can go up to 110 km.

Russia is currently offering its partners globally the short-range air-to-air RVV-MD missiles, medium-range air-to-air RVV-SD missiles, long-range air-to-air RVV-BD missiles, and medium-range air-to-air RVV-AE (R-77) missiles.

Integrating other missiles — for instance, the Israeli Derby air-to-air missiles — with the Su-30 will require permission from Russia, said the sources.

“Russia and India can jointly implement the programme of modernisation of the IAF’s air-to-air missiles. All the requirements of the Air Force can be discussed and met. The work could start as soon as possible once the formal request is made,” added the sources.

Recently saw a post that Russian BVR's w/ a range of 110 KM have been integrated on the Su-30 MKI's now (probably ordered right after that dogfight).

When you combine this with Astra integration on much of the fleet in coming years - we should have a serious edge once more in BVR combat (and then of course there's the Meteors on Rafales which are way better than anything even China has).

Better would be to induct Astra Mk-II and Mk-III before 2024.

The only big issue is we may have only 36 rafales and just 60 meteors against 400 J-10c and J-16 combined with SU-35 and Su-27 from PLAAF .

Numbers matter quantity will overshadow quality
Do they have that many bases to support those numbers that can reach us? If so then I am sure our military strategists will try to destroy those as priority?
