Swedish defence minister pitches for sale of Gripen aircraft to India
Elizabeth Roche

4-5 minutes

NEW DELHI: Swedish defence minister Peter Hultqvist on Tuesday made a pitch to sell SAAB’s Gripen fighter aircraft to India as New Delhi looks to acquire 114 fighter aircraft to replace its old fleet as well as make up the numbers in its depleting squadrons.

This is the second time a top Swedish government figure is pushing the Swedish made aircraft. Sweden's Prime Minister Stefan Lofven had raised the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March during a virtual summit.

Don't know when our babudom will wake up on the follow up order . Dassault is getting slowly and steadily orders from Greece and Croatia and if they get Indonesia deal then production is blocked till 2027 straight away and if Swizz deal goes through then we won't be able to get any new Rafales before 2030 . Unless we start building Rafales in nagpur facility .

Babudom screwed C-17 follow on order and looks like we will end up with just 36 Rafales for good time to come .

It looks likely that Rafale will be announced as the winner in Switzerland this month, according to French language paper Le Matin.

Après les menaces d’initiative populaire lancée par la gauche en cas de choix américain, et sans doute pour d’autres raisons stratégiques, personne ne croit plus vraiment à Berne aux chances des avions américains. Cela devrait donc se jouer avec une solution européenne.
Loosely translated, after threats of a popular reaction prompted by the left in case of an American aircraft being chosen, and doubtless for other strategic reasons, nobody in Berne any longer believes that the American aircraft stand a chance. This should therefore play out with a European solution.

https://www.lematin.ch/story/le-rafale- ... 7143171697

PS Article further surmises that there are hints the choice will be Rafale and a decision is expected to be taken this month.

I can't take this seriously. Why build a production plant in India to assemble Gripen E when you could build a production plant in India to assemble MWF? And 114 MWF should be a lot cheaper, too. If the worry is that MWF production would be too slow, hand project management over to SAAB. :)

Answer is simple, we want to study production planning and assembly line management. Jigs etc.

i have something very interesting...from an old youtube video

the IAF MiG-21 Bison upgrade which was based on Russian MiG-21-93...is showcased here with IRST sensor also...basically this upgrade was supposed to be borrowing a lot of stuff from MiG-29s into MiG-21 (bubble cockpit, KOPYO radar, HMS etc.)

ACM Bhadauria's tenure, with just 4 more months to go, will be one of the most memorable ones. While the indigenization ball had been rolling since Air Marshal Raha's tenure, this one really cemented it with the order for the Tejas Mk1A being placed.

As long as the political dispensation in New Delhi is pushing for indigenization, the Chief of Air Staff will have to be pro-indigenization, but ACM Bhadauria was much more than just someone who lip-synced for indigenization.
Perhaps he should be placed incharge of Tejas from IAF side with special powers to veto foreign purchases as he sees it

Not even close. The roll out rates are itself an evidence. Consider Rafael for that same example.
Roll out rates are a different topic though...Doesn't one learn the art of management once per sector? How is su-30mki assembly and management different from Rafale management wise? So we will learn Rafale and learn again with any other model that we may buy in future? May be I misinterpreted or misunderstood what you said...are you saying volume manufacturing helps? If so then we can hire a mahindra/tata motors manager too to run the assembly line

Boeing CEO became Ford CEO and vice versa, management is management and these days most are MBA's and not necessarily engineers in experience even if they had a technical degree....all supply chains are managed via ERP or some sort of software and I am sure if someone can run MKI then they can run Rafale too in theory

I do not understand how after assembling 500+ MiG-21, quite a few Jaguar, 250+ SU-30MKI, and now Tejas HAL still needs to learn so much more about assembling fighter aircraft. All the publicity I have read about Tejas production has been very triumphal, emphasising how the assembly plant is state of the art.

The notion that a large order for foreign fighters to be produced in India so production can be studied seems ridiculous at a cost of $10+ billion. Unless all the PR about how wonderful the Tejas production facility is... is unfounded nonsense. It seems more likely to me that the people involved are not state of the art.

Manufacturing in india = higher project cost , higher bribe , more of a employment generation than tot , this is a problem with some political system in countries with lower employment rates .

Hal need experience of its own , manufacturing a indigenous fighter , nothing much of learning from another foreign fighter manufacturing .

How about executing all these patriotic bribe offerors and takers. The death penalty exists in India, doesn't it? Or at least making them pay. For example in UK if you cheat on tax (not all taxes perhaps) and are caught out, you are ordered to pay the actual tax owing and can be ordered to pay twice as much again as a sanction. Why not do that with bribery in India?

As for overmanning, that is what government organisations do for political reasons. Try getting a private company to employ twice as many as needed to do the job. PSU's are not looking for competitive efficiency.

Execution ,nope ,not possible , our supreme court is calmer than lake , when it comes to execution , well personally i would prefer it for them ,but many times they are not revealed or if revealed ,they belong to our dear opposition party of today , where they won't think twice beforr instigating mob to burn down this country just to save their dear friends , heck we can't even punish the so called intellectual in our university who sympathize with proven terrorist , and call them freedom fighter , son of a teacher , the lost one and what not .

Re: corruption in England

Five tax fraudsters who devised a fake eco-investment scheme as a tax break for wealthy investors were jailed for a total of 43 years. They were also ordered to repay £20 m, or face another 39 years behind bars and still owe the money.

Do you get penalties like this handed down in India for bribery and corruption?
