ALL WE showed as 2 mirages 2 su30mki & 4 or 6 mig21 BISON.

To be fielding MIG21 is embaressing in 2020

FFS we have 60 billion dollar defense BUDGET . why are flying 60 year russian crap

NOW THE PAKISTANIS have shot down a mig21 and claim one mki kill too.... they are suggesting we lack doctrine, real combat, proefficiency , are all talk and even rafales wont change anything

(Taking into account it takes atleast 4-5 years for even ordered jets to be delivered and further 2 years for tactic operationalization)

For a total of 32 squadrons.

I'm skeptical about any more orders since a lot of capital intensive projects have to be paid for like C295, drones, LCH, awacs, refuellers, not to forget the LCA itself.

Su30 is not 284, its the original 272, 12 that are ordered now are only replacements for crashed units.
A total of 11 Su 30 have crashed till date.
Also few of those mig 29 have crashed too.

Economy of scale always matter so we could afford LCA and MWF on large scale forget about the Additional Rafales or even MRCA. We seriously need to utilize any facility to construct and fund any tejas or MWF in future.

About the budget...
IAF capital outlay was around $5B in 2020. If it grows to twice that number by 2029, then total fiscal space for IAF to spend will be $75B during 2020-2029.

Then we have to fund transport helicopters support aircrafts awacs tankers fighters Sara's and what else. If we spend 10 billion dollars on 200 Tejas variants and some more like 100 MWFs for maybe 7 billion dollars then we have additional 300 aircrafts for less than 20 billion dollars.

As per my understanding the numbers to fulfill 272 were bundled up with last batch of 40.
There was piece with HAL i can't find that said to extend the line 'after' the 12 were completed. These 12 are therefore not to fulfill the 272 order.

If however they are, then the squadrons are already understrength, total sukhois on contract being 261 now.

In 2012 last batch of 42 were ordered. Now it means 82 numbers would get manufactured after 2015. As per HAL they are manufacturing 12 jets per year which makes it 60 jets after 2015. What about the rest 22?

Looking at specs too, out of 272 jets, 18 were not MKI variants and few of the initial numbers were also sold to one African nation as far as I remember.
