For the first time in our country, Indian Air Force (IAF) will have a road runway. Uttar Pradesh’s Agra-Lucknow expressway is being considered to be turned into an airstrip.
Such road runways are important in case the regular airbases are rendered dysfunctional during hostilities. Indian Air Force will bear the cost of the project, reports DNA.

An official in Uttar Pradesh secretariat stated that a delegation of officers from the Air Force Station Bakshi Ka Talab in Lucknow will meet Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav to finalize the deal.

The IAF and UP state government officers will work together to select a three-kilometer segment that will be turned into an airstrip.
For an airstrip, a few specifics are required. The segment needs to be straight, leveled and located on a non-undulating ground without a slope. It should not have electricity poles, masts or mobile phone towers. Portable ground lighting systems will guide aircrafts during landings.
