Don't know how this is consequential at all. UN regularly elects all sorts of countries to various "councils" and "committees" and "commissions", and the whole thing is just one giant bureaucratic mess without any teeth. Meanwhile China, US, Russia, and other major powers do what they want with no repercussions.

The whole of the UNHRC is a joke and a bloated money-sucking bureaucracy that needs to be disbanded as soon as possible. Other than wagging its fingers at the less powerful nations while giving the big ones a free pass, what has it ever done?

It is a timepass organization. Even Saudi Arabia has adorned that seat. That should tell you how credible it is.
Yes, but we can at least prevent tabling of superfluous human rights violations charges against us.

If Modiji tries to pass an anti-conversion bill within the next few years(assuming NDA gets reelected), the bible thumpers in the US will lose their collective minds and demand UNHRC condemnation on India.

This very thing happened when Modiji brought anti-conversion acts in Gujarat. IIRC, that is why Modi was actually banned from entering the US.

IMO, We should also use this power to provide support to Aung San Suu Kyi in her actions vs the Roachingya menace
