S-400 Triumf Air Defense System
Despite India diversifying its sources to procure defence equipment and weaponry, the India-Russia cooperation in defence remains strong, as a variety of forthcoming projects show. The main advantage for Russia is the fact that Moscow has always been willing to transfer technology to its strategic partner.
Russia-India military-technical cooperation should soon be further secured with T-90 tanks, Su-30MKI fighters, Ka-226 helicopters, S-400 "Triumph" anti-aircraft missile systems, Tu-22M3 long-range bombers, the latest aircraft carrier project 23000 "Storm" and two nuclear-powered submarine class Akula II (‘Shuka-B’ project 971), which the Indian military is keen to lease-purchase.
Victor Kladov, Director of International Cooperation and Regional Policy of the state corporation ‘Rostec’ told ‘Izvestia’ that New Delhi intends to strengthen its combat preparedness through procurement, as well as through joint production of Russian arms and equipment.

“India is one of Russia’s main strategic partners in the sphere of military and technical cooperation,” said Kladov. “Our relations have a planned, long-term nature. We have a number of joint ventures in India: in future, they plan to produce at least 1,000 T-90 tanks, 250 Su-30MKI fighters and 200 Ka-226 helicopters.”
“India's annual GDP growth rate is close to 9%, which has enabled the country to buy whatever they want,” said Vadim Kozyulin, professor of the Academy of Military Sciences. “In this regard, we happen to have enough "white spots," he said.

T-90 Main Battle Tank
As a result, India has started to increasingly pay attention to the western military products rather than Russian ones. Russia has consistently lost several major tenders for the supply of military transport aircraft to India. Instead of the IL-76, New Delhi preferred to buy six American C-130 Super Hercules planes for which India has paid nearly $ one billion. The figure is astronomical, compared to that of the IL-76.

Ilyushin Il-76 Heavy Lift Transport Aircraft
“Russia’s most modern MiG-35 is inferior to the French Rafale, the combat helicopter Mi-28N is inferior to the US AN-64 Apache, and the heavy transport helicopter Mi-26T2 is inferior to CH-47 Chinook. And this is despite the fact that the Russian car is more modern, it is fully digital, flies one and a half times further and has twice the volume of the cargo compartment, than its American counterpart. But in the long term, Moscow and Delhi have larger projects,” said Kladov.

Mi-28N Attack Helicopter
One of them, for example, involves building a second aircraft carrier for the Indian Navy. The second one is the nuclear aircraft carrier project 23000 "Storm". The concept of the ship was developed in the Krylovsky research centre along with the Nevsky engineering company. The British edition of Defense News, authoritative in the field of defence policy, reported that plans for the project have been presented to the Indian Ministry of Defence. The ship has a displacement of 100 tonnes, it is 300 metres long and 40 metres wide. It can accommodate between 4,000 and 5,000 crew members and perform combat missions at sea. The carrier will be able to accommodate up to 100 aircraft of various classes

MiG-35 Fighter Jet
The "Storm" can take the carrier-based fighters MiG-29K / KUB available in Delhi and the promising FGFA (export name of the PAK FA or T-50 in the Indian version: Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft). After several years of negotiations New Delhi has decided to ease its requirements for the fighter and is ready to sign a contract, under which both countries will contribute $ 4 billion instead of eight, as earlier envisaged. This corpus will include the cost of prototyping, test programmes, construction of production facilities and assembly lines, warehouse and support facilities, as well as the production of at least 200 vehicles.

Sukhoi PAK-FA Stealth Fighter
“In India, there is a big controversy surrounding the delivery of the French fighter aircraft Rafale,” said Ruslan Pukhov, head of the Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies. “In violation of the contract, not only has Paris, raised the price per aircraft twice, but it also refuses to transfer the basic machine technology to Delhi. We have not had this kind of problem with Russian equipment. We have already passed on the production of T-90 tanks, Su-30MKI fighters to India and are preparing a site for production of our advanced Ka-226 helicopters. I am sure we will improve production and the FGFA,” Pukhov said.

Ka-226 Multi-Role Light Utility Helicopter
Pukhov noted that the process of building military-technical relations and technology transfer has nothing to do with politics. Moscow, providing its own equipment and designs, reserves the right for New Delhi to dispose of them on their own, said Pukhov.
A key example is the supersonic anti-ship "BrahMos" missile.
Company spokesman Praveen Pathak told ‘Izvestia’ that the missile has now been placed into service for the Indian Navy and the Indian Army. It will be tested in September along with the armed Su-30MKI armoury. Russia has given full rights for India to promote the missile in any market.
India remains the largest customer of Russian arms and equipment, said Kozyulin.

Sukhoi Su-30MKI Air Superiority Fighter
“In the period from 2012 to 2015, India signed 162 contracts for purchase of weapons, including 18 with Russia and 13 with the Americans. The number is not so impressive, but these contracts are very large, and determine the future. Unlike the West, not only are we ready to supply the equipment, but also to transfer the technology of its production, which the West never does,” said Kozyulin.

India Wants To Buy Russian Kalibr Cruise Missiles

New Delhi is going to purchase the Kalibr cruise missiles from Russia. The issue of the supply will be discussed during the Russian President’s visit to India in October.
India intends to apply to Russia with a request for a sale of the Kalibr cruise missiles, the Izvestiya newspaper reported on Thursday. The issue of the supply will be discussed during the forthcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India, the newspaper stated, citing an informed diplomatic source.

“The proposal has already been prepared by the Indian side, but it will be officially handed over only during President Vladimir Putin’s visit,” the source noted.

According to the newspaper, the Kalibr export version will have a significantly reduced flight distance – as short as 300 kilometers in order not to violate the provisions of international agreements that prohibit the export of missiles with a greater flight distance.

“These will be, essentially, the same missiles as the ones used in Syria,” the source added.

Last week, the RIA Novosti news agency reported, citing its own diplomatic source, that the Russian Black Sea warships armed with the Kalibr cruise missiles will stay in the eastern Mediterranean at least until September. Several Kalibr launches against the Jabhat Fatah al Sham (previously known as al-Nusra Front) terrorist group have already been carried out by the missile ships in Syria.

This means Nirbhay has far from being inducted in near future.

No, the terminal capability of this missile is very good, it is super sonic. It is for airforce plus if we get ToT the we can add this capability in block 2 of Nirbhay
Few of these failed to reach the target in Syria and crashed in Iran.

Indian Kilos are already armed with it (klub)

Nothing is 100% perfect. Especially sophisticated systems.
Also note, it is highly likely to be propaganda. Because, since then, Russia only intensified cruise missile strikes from ships. Yet, we didn't hear about failures anymore. Seems unlikely that Russians improved and deployed the corrections so quickly in a matter of days.

I don't really understand why we are buyingKalibr? However, one possibility is, we are actually buying technology to perfect Nirbhay and increase its range beyond present 1000Kms. I think MTCR membership is really coming off great help.

These cruise missiles are like a UAV equipped with a warhead. The only difference is, these missiles don't get regular course correction feeds like a MALE or HALE or a UCAV. Also unlike UAVs, they get used only once. So quite normally some will definitely fail. Either because of inaccuracies in INS or poor receptions of satellite navigation signals or any technical malfunction.

Intreatingly, on two out of three occasions, Nirbhay has failed to meet its targeted test points because of failure of its navigation equipment. And unlike Agni's one point need, Nirbhay's navigational support needs to navigate it through multiple waypoints which by its nature is complex and we are only starting in this domain.

Yes, propaganda. The original source is US DoD which has been caught bluffing several times in the past. Of course no proof was presented.
Both Iran and Russia had denied that any of those missiles crashed into Iran.
Remember that plane shot down over UKR and the US immediately blamed Russia and Russian backed dudes, when asked for proof they presented a half baked animation of a buk missiles hitting an airplane. WTF, this is the kind of shit that USDoD is good for.

Definitely, Cruise capability, especially in terrain hugging profile, is where we are lacking expertise. If we can get it from Russians then Nirbhay can be developed and inducted in a smaller time frame.

Anyway, the Syrian campaign brought Kalibr close to the status of Tomahawk. Besides India, many more must be looking to buy it. Putin's sells pitch seems to be working.

Yes.......... India is already using Block S and N of this. So didn't understand this news item at all........ :confused1:
The Indian Navy already possesses “Kalibr” missiles, but only the anti-ship variety. New Delhi wants to get a modification, used for attacks on terrorists in Syria. These are distinguished by the presence of a new high precision guidance system, but the range in the export version will be greatly reduced – up to 300 km, so as not to violate the provisions of the MTCR international agreements, prohibiting export of missiles with a longer rang

Ok......... India is seeking the land attack version of the missile. But the news again is confusing when it brings in MTCR. Being a member of MTCR, India could have the 1200 km version of the missile (!). Moreover what I am unable to understand is why India would opt for another subsonic variant when we already do posses Supersonic Brahmos with same range for same purpose i.e. Land Attack?

Yes thats true...MTCR part is quite confusing..Dont know if there is some sort of delay in establishing the procedures with the membership.

The choice would be with the Range Kaliber is good at.
May be KALIBER will be a FILLER till our own NIRBHAY system matures.

“The strengths of the “Kalibr” are its high precision and the ability to hit well-protected objects, including control and air defence facilities centres”, Lavrov said. “The most important thing is the surprise effect. When there is an air raid, the enemy has time to react, but cruise missiles strike unexpectedly. In addition, “Kalibr” has an advantage – it can manoeuvre and hit the target from unexpected directions.”

He also drew attention to another important aspect of the export of new cruise missiles.

“’Kalibr’ has the feature of using high-precision satellite guidance, and hence, its application requires very close cooperation in the military sphere, as the Indians will have to grant access to the three-dimensional model of the Earth, maps, terrain and the GLONASS military frequencies,” said Lavrov. “Such opportunities are not just given to anybody, only the closest allies.

This will sent the paki mujra group of paki defence establishment a strong message that Russian -India Partnership is still large and kicking .

Well............... As far as I know, with 300 km range of Land attack version, its primary target would be Pakistan. Moreover this news too is full of some nonsensical babbles on part of LAVROV. He is trying to sell already implemented GLONASS system. Moreover if you are firing a ship based CM, how come it would surprise your enemy with its direction, unless and untill you take a long detour overland. With 300 Km range and subsonic speed, there would be no surprising element.

But I think some one some where is hiding something in this whole thing. It may be whole new class of ALASCM which you could fire from Tu-142s. Is it in response of Pakistan getting subs from Chinese or increasing Chinese sub activity. Or it could be an Anti sub version too instead of Land attack one.

Subsonic land attack version of 300 Km is some thing which I am unable to digest right now. I can't see any logic behind it. Or this whole news could be a fake one.

Only a fool would not mark the kind of warmth of friendship present in this statement.
It is highly lamentable that GoI is signing LEMOA, CISMOA, Lemur, Femur etc, with the villains, the Yanks. Yet, nothing in that direction with our Russian brothers.
This counts as one of the biggest failures and also one of the biggest hypocrisies of Modi Govt.

Right. USDoD is fighting a losing propaganda war against Russia. A singular TV channel RT is sufficient to debunk all the propaganda of an entire DoD machinery.
