Yes, US is funding the Iron Dome. Obama just signed for another round of funds for the program.Iron Dome will come to India. But there is a big 'BUT'.

Since we are reactive, it will come when our cities get pounded or the threat is very visible.

Will USA allow the transfer even if Israel agrees? Remember Arrow II?
arrow has 30% American parts but tech id is 100% made in Israel product
an agreement to sell 6 batteries to Singapore is approved

If you call this as diplomacy then yeah I have no clue...

India could have simply made a statement asking both of them to maintain restraint and then asked for Iron dome, no ? Doesn't this sound better ?
That was mere lip service nothing which Israel is going to take seriously with close friends like US/India.

Remember we have got a Secular govt which wants to impress its vote bank.

I don't think we need this system:

1. We are not israel. Our population doesn't live close to the borders. We don't have pressing need for short range interceptors.

2. It is wrong to assume that Nasr can be countered by Iron Dome. We have a huge border and Iron dome is a short range interceptor. We will need a lot more than 5 batteries for this system to be effective. Singapore ordered it cos its a small country.

3. Its costly.

Pack, can you make this system mobile ??? we have to secure our armed formation in cold start. We can but the radar on arjun tank on stablising platform, with AWAC to support it. .

Sitting in Netherlands, you are not making a lot of sense either. :p :troll:

However, DC1's premise is reasonable. Most of our population lives far away from the borders unlike Israel

the Americans wanted data from our system including battlefield experience this data is invaluable in future development off missile defense
The initial funding and development of the Iron Dome system was provided and undertaken by Israel.[23] This allowed for the deployment of the first two Iron Dome systems.[24] Subsequently, funding for an additional eight Iron Dome systems—along with funding for a supply of interception missiles—is currently being provided by the United States, with two of these additional systems having been delivered by 2012.
found it on wiki....

is it true...?? it means Iron dome is entirely Israeli tech in a way and Americans are only funding the production....

Okay answer a few questions

1. How much population of India lives near the borders. Say upto 50kilometers ?
2. What is the purpose of iron dome ?
3. What kind of weapons does the enemy have ?

Iron Dome (Hebrew: כִּפַּת בַּרְזֶל, kipat barzel) also known as "Iron Cap"[5] is a mobile all-weather air defense system[4] developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.[3] It is a missile system designed to intercept and destroy short-range rockets and artillery shells fired from distances of 4 to 70 kilometers away and whose trajectory would take them to a populated area.[6][7] The system, created as a defensive countermeasure to the rocket threat against Israel's civilian population on its northern and southern borders, uses technology first employed in Rafael's SPYDER system. Iron Dome was declared operational and initially deployed on 27 March 2011 near Beersheba.[8] On 7 April 2011, the system successfully intercepted a Grad rocket launched from Gaza for the first time.[9] On 10 March 2012, The Jerusalem Post reported that the system shot down 90% of rockets launched from Gaza that would have landed in populated areas.[7] By November 2012, it had intercepted 400+ rockets.[10][11]

our enemy has same weapons as we have. example smerch rockets. tank fires, howitzer fire .

with 4 to 70 km range it can save our troops and expensive equipment along with border during war, forget villagers,in india we don't count them as human..

dont tel me indian will fight sitting in chandimandir 300km from border:scared2::scared2::scared2:

India's population is 1.2 billion, at most a few million live within 50kms of the border. And the border itself is very long, several thousand miles.
Look at the economic feasibility.

The enemy doesn't have smerch, and tank munitions cannot be intercepted by Iron dome. What kind of role will the Pakistani arty will play ? will it be used to target population centers or to provide support to their military ?

How many of them do they have ? and how does Pak army intend to use them ?

How expensive is the equipment ? Does it justify the cost of Iron Dome ? is it not cheaper to shift this equipment beyond the range of Enemy's arty ?

As per Cold Start Doctrine, Indian troops will be rapidly advancing into Pak territory, how will Iron Dome protect them there ?
