I think the US would like both Pakistan and India to fall into its sphere of influence,to counterbalance China,

India to act as a check to China on its Himalayan flank and challenge China's navy in the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea.

Pakistan will continue to be a client state of China but it also dependent on American financial aid and trade. A shift away from China, might conceivably happen only if America gives Pakistan strong diplomatic and military support on the Kashmir issue. It's difficult to see that happening. So, Pakistan will continue with its balancing act with the two superpowers.

The Americans would also presumably want to drive a wedge between India and Iran and Russia. In the case of Iran, this will be easier if America provide India alternative sources of gas or cheap energy alternative energy sources ,such as renewable technologies. They would also like to break India's reliance on Russian military hardware and on Russian logistics support and technical expertise,by sales of their own military technology to India.

Those are my own crude guesses as to what the American military planners and strategists might be thinking long-term about the subcontinent.

USA always wanted to be close to Pakistan but India now has become exceedingly strong. Earlier, USA along with Arabs threatened oil sanctions on India but now India has decided to threaten back in a daring manner. As a result, India is now formiddable in strength. More than China, it is Indian geo-strategic location which gives strength and USA needs badly.

India and Iran have no close relationship. Iran has shown extraordinary arrogance. It denied Farzad gas field to India, supported Pakistan on Kashmir and even called for muslim unity after coming to India! Saying that India has close relation with Iran is a blunder.

Driving wedge between Russia is impossible as India and Russia have technology partnership unlike USA who only sells weapons, that too under conditions. USA needs Indian market for its weapons to reduce rade deficit while India finds it better to buy Russian weapons

As of now, India has more authority over Arabs than USA as a result of certain factors. So, it is the USA that needs India rather than other way around

Really?
Last time Saudi Arab signed $110 billions weapon deal when Trump came, how much did any Arabian country sign with Modi?
Last time when Iran signed the nuclear package, 6 countries wrote down their names, where is India?
There are doses of US military bases in Arab world, please tell us how many India has.

Let this be clear- India didn't have much of a say prior to 2014. So, it is not possible to change that suddenly and build aems and bases. The USA has already announced withdrawal of their bases by 2030. Trump himself said this when announcing 110 billion dollar deal.

Indua doesn't make arms for export and hence it is not exported. Arab countries have signed up for investment in India to the tune of hundreds of billion dollars. India neds neds investment to grow and that is obtained, not arms deal

I don't agree with "keep your heads down" Russian economy is in bad shape...Are they keeping their head down? No. They are becoming stronger by the day militarily.
In spite of 21 st century..its still jungle out there. India's pacifist ,nonviolence has not been respected. Get it straight..people...World , especially white world..respects power..power to annihilate . They don't follow Gandhi..but want you to follow Gandhi..so they can keep you weak and subservient.
Military strength with weapons (Like Russians have) can get India some respect...otherwise they will use a puny Paki to intimidate and threaten you. Unfortunate reality of today's world is "Might is Right" Hopefully, some 100 years from now..it will become "Right Is Might." Not at this time though.

Yes, by 2030 and only those bases in Saudi Arab, there will be still plenty of US military bases in other Arab countries. More importantly, US has the most largest military base there - Israel, they can return anytime suits them.

First of all, Arabian countries have trillions dollars investment in each of USA, hundreds of billion dollars is peanut, even less than the amount they invested in China;

Secondly, you are talking about "Authority over Arab", I don't understand how this money from Arab gives India more authority to Arab? By this logic, developing countries should have more authority over developed country since the latter invested more in the former.

India has certain cards to play which are quite deadly. India doesn't have authority per say but is having a gun which can cause damage which no other country can. India is not getting investment because of niceness or request.

Also, USA is withdrawing from entire arab area and it will be replaced by Islamic Military Alliance.

Finally, USA survives on domestic oil production. Arabs have threatened USA to be self sufficient so that the oil from Arabs is not bought by USA by simply printing dollars. As a result of this, USA is forxed to produce over 10 million barrels a day and exhaust their oil reserves faster than what they would like to. USA oil peoduction is not shale oil boom but this threat. This also means that USA will lose its relevance once its oil is drained out. USA will.not be able to travel far and maintain control over this side of the world

What gun which can cause damage wich no other country can? American bases are still here and will be here for foreseeable future. These Arabian countries are under US protection, Indian gun can't cause any damage without US permission.

Where you get this from? US only propose to use islamic military alliance to replace US force in SYRIA.

Learn some history first. US's already controlled over Arabian world long before they reduced their domestic oil production. Even with Israel, Turkey and Diego Garcia alone, they don't need to travel far to control over this side of the world, they are always staying in this side of world.

Besides, what make you think they will lose its relevance once its oil is drained out? The majority of oil field in the middle east now are under the control of US oil companies.

Let us say that despite oil production Arabs are vulnerable to activities of nearby areas even though a direct attack is not made. Indirect attavks can be made. The attacks arr not made on the soil but the consequences are forced on to the enemy soil as a spill out from nearby areas. Also, India needs no permission from USA whatsoever. The inability to attack directly is due to global dependency of oil than USA permission.

Syria is a gone case. USA is withdrawing from Arab areas altogether as their position is becoming untenable. USA is not willing to do this but Arabs are insisting that they no longer need USA base. For the same reason mentioned above, USA can't attack Arabs as other countries dependent on Arab oil will come running to protect their oil supply.

USA does not ow Arab land but only offers protection as a relic of cold war era where the USA allied with Arabs to take down the 'evil atheistic communist' USA oil companies may control Arab oil extraction but that does not mean that it is under their control. Companies like ARAMCO, Iranian oil companies etc can extract oi from their fields even if USA companies are prohibited from oil extraction.

Anybody imagining a US withdrawl from Middle East ( Arab Lands) is day dreaming. When US still keeps presence in Europe via Nato when World war II is long gone why would they retract from the place where World s oil is found. Nobody would. Even I wont if I were Trump.

USA does not have a choice. If the Arabs refuse to entertain USA, USA will have to leave. If Saudi Arabia get army from pakistan and other Islamic military alliance, then USA will have to leave. USA will be forced to leave, not leave on its own. USA has bases in many places but that does not mean USA is capable of fighting if the nearby countries obstruct USA. The bases also need logistical supply.

India must play both sides but never agree to any one-sided demands. India must always play in strength and not agree to sign things like COMCASA without getting sufficiently high ToT. Spurning USA makes no sense but it must be made very clear that hard bargaining tactics from USA will not work. India must demand ToT for advanced technology like GaN radar, fifth generation sensors before giving anything.

USA always tries to get everything from others ad promise to "try" to return the favour in the future. The transaction must be insisted to be on the spot and without delays
I think India should try to play to the US's desires to be a global military force by channeling them into solving the problems India has in the Middle East. Why should India spend money in a region when the work can be done by a richer country?

China is less of a threat for me personally. I think it would be useful in the future of have more major powers lined up to stop any monopoly abuse, though obviously I would rather than India was one of these powers, if not the only sole power.

Telling lies is not the right way of arguing. Pakistan imports almost all of its defence needs whereas India makes its own products in many sectors. The amount of absolute import required is quite low and India is well capable of making most of the defence needs in India. Pakistan can make nothing. Frm where did you get the idea that India imports more than Pakistan?

USA is not too advanced in software but only in electronics. India also makes a lot of softwares for various tools. Many of the USA softwares like financial tools, automation are all made in India. The difference in IT of India and USA is just because India did not see the need of certain softwares which are needed in USA. Calling India as laggard is meaningless.
India should really stop importing military hardware and ensure that all military projects are conducted by Indians within India. It's cheaper, more secure, and more advantageous for our economy.

If any lessons can be learnt from china, keep your heads down and work your ass off atleast for 10 years to be a economically prosperous country. after that you can do what ever you want.
I'm not sure what lessons India can draw from the People's Republic of China, Yes, China has the largest standing army in the world and India the second largest. But there are differences.

Since Communists under Mao took power in 1949, defeating the Nationalists under Chiang Kai Shek,China has been a totalitarian society for one thing . India being a democracy,e party in power in India, with eyes toward re-election, cannot divert social spending to the military or engage in costly, aggressive military adventures, without running the risk of being voted out. China being totalitarian considerations is not constrained by those things.

India, being a young country, there may have been anxiety in its political leadership about India falling under military rule like Pakistan, and so funds to the military were starved and generals-or long-term security considerations at all-not allowed to influence foreign policy,

After, 1949,China gave military, logistical and moral support to the Communists Vietnam, allowing them to force a complete capitulation on the colonial French forces, it subsequently supported the Vietcong in their war against America, forcing the Americans to leave Vietnam ,without succeeding their strategic objectives.

The Chinese army invaded the Korea and the UN forces ,under US command, were pushed near breaking point, trying to stop the Chinese forces, using mass human wave attacks, from overrunning the peninsular,

To prevent the possibility of invasion future attack from India,China conquered and annexed Tibet. To supply Tibet and connect it with their western provinces they defeated India in a limited border war and annexed Aksai Chin,

They were not afraid of breaking with the Soviets and adopting their own policies, after the Soviet leadership denounced Stalinism. China went on to fight a limited border war,on the eastern border, with the Soviet Union,to further underscore their independence form Soviet control and test the rsolve of the Soviets.

China was the fourth country to gain an atom bomb in 1964 and the thrud country to gain a hydrogen bomb, in 1967, 7 years before India's first atom bomb test.

It is for mainly these reasons, that America had to bow down to reality and give Taiwan's permanent seat int he security council to the People's Republic and normalise relationship with Mao's China. This normalisation with America happened when Chinese society was in a state to anarchy, convulsed by the Cultural Revolution.

So,sure, all things being equal economic strength is a good thing and gets yinfluence on the international stage and would allow India to spend more on its military, One thing to note is, by opening up to the world China has also gained skills in mass manufacture and advanced technology know how such as in,say, electronics and avionics , helping it to achieve self-reliance and allowing it to modernize its military among other things.

In conclusion:

China became a formidable military power, without developing economic prosperity.

And China is not a model for India,as regards developing the military, given how different both country's political systems are have been for 70 years, now. Of course,if India becomes more politically authoritarian this may change.

Iran's position on Kashmir has been neutral to taking a position of solidarity with the Muslims of Kashmir.Unless, Iran starts pouring arms and fighters into Kashmir it doesn't matter much in practical terms

Where Pakistan and Iran are in accord(and have been since the time of the Shah) is on the Balochistan issue. The US , would certainly like to foment some insurgency in Balochistan, against Iran, maybe smuggling arms and fighters into Iran from across Afghanistan or Pakistan.

The progress of the port in Gwadar and falling behind in the progress of Chabahar and India's overture's to America means Iran perhaps is looking more toward's China too.than India

The oil pipeline to China in this map, passes from Iran to China via Turkmenistan,Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. The US is trying to gain a military foothold in these countries.

China's Belt and Road initiative and its development of Pakistan;s infrastructure might offer a new path to transporting oil or gas to China from Iran:
via Pakistan and directly to China, bypassing the likes of Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazaskhstan or Kyrygyzstan.

This pipeline might also serve India too, increasing its strategic importance. This would be the optimum win-win scenario for Iran-something the Iran leadership has at the back of their mind. However good relations with Pakistan are vital for it to get off the drawing board.

India should really stop importing military hardware and ensure that all military projects are conducted by Indians within India. It's cheaper, more secure, and more advantageous for our economy.
Yes, technology development takes time and hence India is better off by importing technology for reverse engineering and then building it quickly in India rather than start from scratch

Every state becomes a military power first before becoming a prosperous state. Military brings prosperity. India was a failed state with no leadership but just a bunch of useless people in congress who were not representatives of Indians but just happened to be there due to the poor quality of Indians in general. Nehru was an agent installed by the British and was always afraid of an overthrow due to his incapability. Nehru had no supporters but merely relied on ignorance of the people to remain in power. That was the main reason India did not develop defence technology. Lal Bahadur Shastri immediately after becoming PM ordered construction of nuclear bombs as he was actually a capable leader.

China on the other hand, was created by capable leadership of Mao who won wars and fought enemies and thus did not fear take over by anyone else. Strength is built up by defence build up and not economy. Economy is irrelevant and must not be mistaken for strength.

Iran badly needs China now as the oil supply of iran is being limited due to sanctions. China is capable of withstanding USA sanctions as China has a few trillion dollar of USA treasury bills which it can simply release in the market and crash dollar's value which will ruin USA economy. Russia is another country that can withstand USA sanctions as Russia is a major oil and gas supplier. But that is the exact problem - Russia has excess oil and may not want Iranian oil unless it plans to re-export Iranian oil as Russian oil after mixing with its inventory.

The chabahar port was delayed due to Iran blocking the funds from India which India had also confirmed a year back. Iran simply refused to allow Indian funds to be released by delaying. Now since sanctions are back, Iran is desperate again. The Iran pipeline is impractical as the pipeline to China needs to traverse multiple countries which makes it difficult and the pipeline to India is blocked by Pakistan.

India does not need Iranian oil as the other suppliers are willing to supply more to cut off Iran.
