World's two fastest growing economies - India and China -- will join hands to foster their economic power and counter dominance of the west in global trade sphere.

It could result in India having high speed Chinese trains and Indian information technology experts working in China.

The two countries would provide opportunities to companies to invest in their respective countries and share technological knowhow under India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue with an aim to achieve the trade target of $70 billion by end of this year and to cross $100 billion by 2015.

China is India's biggest trade partner.

As many as 10 agreements between Indian and Chinese companies are expected to be signed at second leg of the dialogue in Delhi from November 26 being anchored by Planning Commission.

The inaugural session was held in Beijing this October where the broad outline for the cooperation was agreed upon.

The agreements in infrastructure and IT sectors indicate India is willing to allow Chinese companies to expand business here provided China allows market access to Indian companies, especially in sectors such as pharma and IT.

"Each agreement is worth $20 million dollars to start with," a senior government functionary said.

But what has enthused Indian government is the possibility of getting high speed Chinese trains for Indian railways at a cost much lesser than from the known international player Japan.

Enthused, wow, this very word will set off many short tempers here, won't it?

Government officials said India is looking to utilize Chinese expertise and technology to develop six high speed rail corridors including small distance routes such as Delhi and Chandigarh.

China launched its bullet trains in 2007 and within a few years it developed world's largest high-speed rail network.

While questions on safety of Chinese high speed trains have been an issue, a working group between Girish Pillai, executive director (Infrastructure) in railway ministry and Huang Min, director general in department of basic industries will chalk out the possible areas of cooperation.

Another area India and China is looking for cooperation is clean technologies with an aim to check growth of global warming causing green house gas emissions.

Two working groups - energy and environmental protection --- have been constituted to chalk out proposals for cooperation.

"We have shown willingness to learn from Chinese experience in water and energy efficiency for faster and sustainable economic growth," an official said, adding that India and China had closely collaborated on different issues in international climate and environment negotiations.

The importance of the strategic dialogue could be gauged from the fact that India is the second country in the world with which China has such an arrangement.

Zhang Ping, head of China's national development and reform commission and plan panel deputy chairperson Montek Singh Ahluwalia will co-chair the dialogue.

Why buy cheap Chinese copies when we can get the original stuff from Japan/Germany etc. We have seen how high speed rails of Chinese faces accidents within 2-3 years of introduction into the service.

India also had the bad experience of cheap power plants from China. So, India should learn from its mistakes and buy the original and perhaps get into licensed production of these high speed rails. Let's learn from the master not a fake disciple.

Tell you the truth, there are lot resistance in China to export any thing to India if it enhances Indian infrastructure.
Cheap power plants? during your blackout this summer, your grid down is due to British network, Chinese cheap power plants saved your ass.

Cheap chinese plants was a loss of time, effort and money for us because they were unreliable compared to our indigenous plants. At least, it dawned up on our people that its better to disregard the Chinese junk.

this is called shameless bluffing isn't it, if your indigenous plants are so good why do you waste your precious foreign exchange to purchase something does not last?

Hahaha! Copies of what exactly dear fellow? If they were "cheap copies" would your government consider buyiing them? And after all these years of you making fun of China's HSR network, it seems your country wants a piece of this our action:thumb:

India had a bad experience with poor maintenance of equipment resulting in large scale power outages. The largest cities in China use the same equipment, yet I don't remember province-wide black-outs in China, do you?

BTW, Chinese HSR is based on designs stolen during joint ventures with Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., Siemens AG, Alstom SA and Bombardier Inc.

Nope, same people using two different plants - one indigenous plant from BHEL and other from China. Results are there to see.

I don't think its safe for India to get HSR anyway. You cant maintain basic power plants let alone safely maintain basic rail, with hundreds of accidents already on book, I shudder to think what HSR would bring to that mix.

Tropical weather will further make the maintenance even costy, if I were Indian government, I won't opt high speed rail even if there is no hurdle in technology.

Fast speed train ( 120 -180 km/h)on current rail is the best way out for India, what they badly needed is a much more upgraded signal system and contrl system.

You have to give it to the Chinese they learnt about construction of these trains from the French Alstom now they sell cheaper version to India.

In short this has benefited the customer if you ask me.

Hundreds die every year on a rail network the British left you, but after your posts on this thread so far, I can already see the reaction here once negligence and poor administration lead to the inevitable first Indian HSR accident...

In short this has benefited the customer if you ask me.
French used glue while China used premade, totally two techniques.
China's construction is more a combination of German and Japanese style, though.

What a big joke. We cannot even safely run our diesel trains, the accidents being there in several per year and the Chinese are trying to sell us their even more unreliable 'high speed' train. Now we will not have any rail accidents, there will be rail catastrophes
No offense intended to the Chinese folks here, but India does not need Chinese trains, China needs Indian trains so that they can travel from point A to point B in one piece. No good boarding an HSR if you aren't going to be alive to complete the journey.
