IAI gets $550m ‘mega contract’ with Asian country for air defense system
Sky Capture is a command and control platform that IAI says makes existing anti-aircraft systems ‘highly accurate and effective’
By Shoshanna Solomon29 Oct 2018, 3:48 pm

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the nation’s largest aerospace and defense company, said Monday it has won a tender for a “mega-contract” worth $550 million with the army of an Asian country to provide its “Sky Capture” Air Defense system.

Sky Capture is a command and control platform, which transforms the customer’s existing air defense systems into “highly accurate and effective”ones, with advanced command and control capabilities as well as information based on multiple sensors, including advanced fire control and detection radars, electro-optical sensors all made by IAI and its subsidiary ELTA Systems.

The command and control system provides accurate target data for the interceptors and manages the threat and firing detection in an optimal manner, based on the target type, IAI said in a statement.

The system developed at IAI provides short-range aerial defense for army forces, headquarters, bases and strategic assets against a broad range of airborne threats through cannon control, the statement said. IAI competed against “several defense leaders” in the tender, the Israeli company said.

Everyone ia leeching us off. A 5th largest Econony with 4th largest Military cant even upgrade something like this without buying from outside.
Most right-wing folks are israeli fanboys. They think Israel is doing us a favor by selling weapons at high prices.

We lag in "certain" techs again, things Indian military operates have to be at par with international standard & a lower middle income country lags in some for sure.

Air defence is getting a massive push lately. IA upgrading their AD guns and inducting QRSAM, Akash and MRSAM, same with IAF that is also inducting S400. Not to mention the new orders for FCRs and VSRs.

In 2010-20 probably close to $25bn will be spent by IA/IAF on AD purely.

Your misconceptions are the root cause of your anger.
India maybe the fourth largest military but when comes to (exportable) defense production, it does not feature even in the top 25. Holding large amount of obsolete weapons and recruiting large conscript army means little when comes to effectiveness. India has to keep up with its potential enemies both qualitatively and quantitatively.

India may be is the fifth largest economy but its per capita income ranks among the lowest in the world. It has a very long way to go before catching up to economically advanced and technologically developed nations such as Israel.

While India is doing so, it is justified to import necessary equipment and technology to keep the defenses intact.

Sky Capture features the ELM-2106 medium-range advanced tactical acquisition radar (ATAR) as well as an EO sensor made by IAI's Tamam division.

The ELM-2106 ATAR (Advanced Tactical Acquisition Radar) is ELTA's fourth generation 3D Tactical Air Defense RADARS.

The ELM-2106 ATAR System is a 3D solid state L-band medium range tactical radar with Active Electronically Steering Array (AESA) in elevation. The radar detects a wide variety of low RCS target such as: low velocity ultra-lights and UAVs.

The radar provides accurate target measurements of range, azimuth and elevation angles differentiating between aircraft and helicopters and classifying the helicopter type according to blade returns.

The ELM-2106 ATAR can be deployed as a local Air Defense system providing warning and target designation to Surface-to-AIR weapon systems including MANPADS. The system can also be deployed as gap filters for supporting C3I centers for AIR Traffic Control (ATC)

It is integral part of SPYDER ADS.

Completely O/T but To give you perspective

1. By and large most militaries in the world are in the same state as India.

a) when the US military first invaded Astan and Iraq it was falling apart at the seams, Your equipment was breaking down, infantry was buying kit with their own money etc - 18 years and trillions of dollars has rectified it

b) China - outside the propoganda pictures the bulk of the PLA - (army / AF / Navy ) is still more obsolete if not as much as india's

c) same with Russia above

d) today most of the German Tanks are non operational, Most of UKs and Frances Navy cant be put to sea.

(NO NATO Country or ALL of NATO can go to war without America. And i mean including with ANYBODY. not one of them can go to war with Iran, for example today)

e) Israel / South Korea / Japan are probably the most uniformly up to date militaries - and they all heavily Rely on Uncle Sam for protection and they all have TINY populations

LASTLY - This ragtag, bhuka, Nanga (starving / naked - which i assume is what you passed off by saying conscipt) country saved Whitey Arse twice in WWI and WWII easily establishing themselves as some of the best soldiers in the commonwealth.

2) 5th Largest Economy with Low GDP per capita

- Give us time sir. in 1947 we were one of the poorest countries on the planet in absolute GDP sense, in 1971 we had a National Emergency crises because of famine and bankruptcy as a country.

In under a Century we are a Top 5 economy and for a $1500 GDP per capita country the quality of institutions we have set up are unparalleled in Human History
- RBI
- Election commission
- Supreme court
- Federal, Multi Party Democracy for a 1.3bn people with more lanquages, religions and ethnicities than all of europe combined

We did ALL of the above with ZERO help from anybody. While China/Japan/Israel over the decades has been pumped with capital by the rest of the world we did it ourselves. We did it with an inefficient and corrupt bureaucracy, we did with with Partisan, Communal Politics and everything that comes with it.

We are far from perfect. But If we could achieve SO MUCH with SO little in such a short period of time imagine what we can achieve in the next 50 years.

So while we have a long way to go. I am willing to bet we will do it in the shortest amount of time. We have a unique ability to master the learning curve ;) (and unlike the Chinese we wont do it with the barrell of a Gun pointed at our own population)

Wrong, my friend. Right-wing fanboys were very angry when India voted against Israel in the UN, but they were justifying Israel's position on OBOR (which was in favor of China, clearly disregarding India's disputed territory). So Israel being pro-OBOR is ok, but India being pro-Palestine is not ok, according to right-wing nuts. They are more pro-Israel than Israel.

OBOR is in Israel's interest, India voting for Palestine isn't in India's. Those RW, whatever they are, are known to bash Jews anytime.
It's got nothing to do with religion at least.
I'm same here.

The issue is India gets fuckall in return for voting in favor of Palestine. Case in point

http://www.jewishpress.com/news/eye...hority-stands-with-indias-enemies/2017/12/30/

Excerpt: "Palestinian Authority Ambassador to Pakistan Walid Abu Ali took the stage last week with at a rally held in Rawalpindi with the leader of the Lashkar-e-Taibi terrorist organization, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, to call for an Islamic summit meeting to “defend Jerusalem from Israel.”

Time and again they have stood with their umma brothers on our western borders. Tell me again why should we vote in favor of Palestine?

It's in India's interest, particularly since we get foreign remittance worth $30 billion dollars and export worth$40 billions to the UAE alone. So keeping the Muslim-dominated ME in good humor (by supporting their causes such as Palestine etc.) is a smart diplomatic move.

Anyhow, that's even not the point. Why does Indian rw bend over backwards to justify every decision that Israel makes (even if it goes against our national interests? Who cares if OBOR benefits Israel, that should not be the concern of any Indian RW. Will any American right-winger say 'Since India benefits from our enemy country, let them trade with our enemy country'? Impossible, the right-wing over there do not care about India's interests, they only care about their country's interests. But in India, the right-wing will somehow consider every other nation's interests before considering their own. This itself points to an inferiority complex.

Remittance isn't everything itself. ME countries are unstable & their economies are wobbling. They don't have any long term cake except oil and they will run only till they have oil.
Israel on the other hand is far more technologically advanced & can offer India what India needs if given what it needs.

It's Arabs who have problem with Israel, not India. So, India supporting Israel isn't a favour but India creating hurdles for Israel just coz Arabs want is appeasing.

Like any other? OBOR has nothing to do with our national interests except it passes through our disputed territory.
But in India, the right-wing will somehow consider every other nation's interests before considering their own.
For oil, RW government were forced to vote against Israel! Enough.
Since India benefits from our enemy country, let them trade with our enemy country'
China isn't India's enemy either. India itself gets cheap trade deals for us.

Making Israel a permanent enemy or most corrupted Muslim countries as best friend, is legacy of Arab. No one's friend, no one's enemy.
If someone benefits you, go for it, if someone's benefits harm you, go against it. If doesn't, don't even bother.
