Let's wait till June for the FATF decision.

Besides, Iran is hardly the only source for energy.

There are 2 things that India is throwing away by stopping Iranian oil imports:

1. Iran offers oil at a very attractive price, and sometimes even takes care of shipping and insurance. This gives us a better hand while negotiating with other oil exporting nations.

2. There is the geopolitical angle as well.. We have stopped importing oil from Iran and Venezuela... So now we are importing all of our oil from US allies like Saudi, UAE, Iraq.. and also US. This would allow Uncle Sam to pressure us in the future, in case there is a crisis and we are on opposite sides of the fence. If there is regime change in venezuela and Iran in the future, and the regime happens to be an American pet, then, this would further bolster America's position viz-a-viz oil buyers like India or China. All significant oil producers except Russia would be in the American camp. Also Venezuela has the world's largest oil reserves.

If Venezuela or Iran turn US pets tomorrow, the sanctions would be removed, and then we or anybody wont have any problem importing oil from them due to Muricans. US forced us to stop S400 purchase but we didnt budge and went ahead with it. If today we are agreeing to US demands on Iran oil, US must be helping us somewhere else, most likely our support to Afghans via Chahbahar and screwing Pakis in places China feels the pain, namely cpec. So its all a game of national interests.

Everything has a trade-off. US would pressurize us anyway, as it's many other countries to stop importing from Iran. This along with FATF blacklisting can be a way to extract something more out of it.

Anyway, we're for a waiver as elections are going on. Post that there will certainly be a price shock in the short term.

Brahma’s statement was not wrt Chinese, rather about others.

It is true that UN discussions started immediately after feb 27th and that too in quick succession after previous attempt.

Argument can be made that India’s escalation was bad for optics for Chinese. The fact that Chinese will not intervene when our forces keep banging pakis will become common knowledge in pak, and may have indirect negative impact on CPEC.

As I keep saying, most of common public do underestimate how long it takes to do proper negotiations among multiple parties.

I know of negotiations between private companies which went on for three years...
