Can somebody explain what is meaning of the last line in this article saying "Lack of target solutions"
Well as he details the Pukis wanted to shoot down MKIs, launching their Aims at 40-50km away was BVR tactics, however MKI being super maneuverable can turn on a dime, chaff and evade since the Aims were not launched in No Escape Zone of the Missile. However while maneuvering away meant the MKI couldn't turn back and gain a lock.
It also proves while the Wing Co went ahead for the chase and kill, it was indeed better that the MKIs and Mirages also disengaged, Wing Co's. audacity + the MKI & Mirages dodging BVR missiles were already too much for Pakis.
24 VS 10 is never a good idea, especially where only 2 are MKI, 2 Mirages and 6 are Bisons.
However, after those evasive maneuvers, one has to be careful since going evasive with BVR missiles means going into burner, chaffing and strong high speed kinematic maneuvers + terrain masking. Have to be careful, one consumes fuel quickly.
