India slams OIC for debating Kashmir

Sunday, October 04,2009

NEW DELHI: India on Saturday criticised the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) for taking up the Kashmir issue at its recent meeting in New York and its appointment of a special envoy for Indian-held Kashmir (IHK). “It is regrettable that the OIC has commented on India’s internal affairs. We condemn and reject this,” External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakaash said in a statement. He said the OIC had failed to understand that IHK was an integral part of India. “Inherent in OIC’s statements and actions on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir is a complete inability to understand India’s position. Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and it is our firm position that the OIC has no locus standi in matters concerning India’s internal affairs,” he added. Meanwhile, an OIC official said that appointment of the special envoy for Kashmir would help bridge the gap between India and Pakistan and address the issue of minorities in India. The OIC had appointed Abdullah Bin Abdul Rahman Al Bakr, a Saudi national as the special envoy, a move welcomed by separatists in IHK. iftikhar gilani

Didn't even hear of anything called OIC before (even before logging in just now). India does not need to bother about any toothless organisation. There are lot of other things to ponder over.

We should not be so hard on the OIC it was their discriminatory view towards India that brought about Indian -Israeli diplomatic ties and strategic alliance, thank you OIC.

They forget that India remains one of the biggest supporters of the Palestinian cause.

The OIC should try and solve real problems in the Islamic world, like the never-ending Shia-Sunni conflict, the self determination of various stateless peoples in Pakistan and the Middle-East.

India should act like China.
Send Demarches to all OIC member nations, expel all OIC member nation ambassadors and recall all ambassadors from the OIC member nations.
Try to wedge a divide in the OIC and threaten to declare war(aka rain nukes) on whoever supports Pakistan on Kashmir issue.

I agree with Singh, such talk should not be tolerated. They(and others) talk anything about India because they know there wont be consequencies. They know India will not react. That trend needs to be changed. If we want to be taken seriously, then we should act accordingly.

OIC guys, correct me if I am wrong, are one of the major source of oil to all the world(including US and China). But would they dare carry out such comments about US/China? That is the critical difference. India has to learn to project power, it is one way of acquiring power. It seems ironic, but thats how it works. OIC is cheapfry and we should atleast be able to get our way with them.

The most disheartening thing is that GOI has not reacted at all. Or if it did, then no one noticed. Either way, it is a sad thing.

Let them appoint whoever they wish to,India does not need to entertain anyone regarding it's internal matters.

He'll be welcome to talk to the hand.

Thats understood, mate. But more than that we need to send a forceful message than such moves are counterproductive. That India doesnot take such utterings lightly.

India needs to duck till its feathers grow strong and then counter whatever it is. Once you grow strong then everything will fall at its place, its automatic.

This seems right approach, but actually it is not. The process of becoming strong starts with protecting our interests, otherwise we will remain a paper tiger. We may not be able to dictate terms on all issues, but we must atleast make an effort to protect our interests. And there no bigger national interest than national integrity and soveriegnity. China is strong today, was it so strong a decade back? But even then, did they tolerate if anyone mentioned tibet? They made all sorts of noise, threats, fuss, they sulked....in short did everything in their power to make others realise that Tibet is touchy subject with Chinese. So others were careful not to mention it. India must learn power projection, we cannot wait indefinitely to 'become strong' in some obscure future. The process of becoming strong involves us to use whatever strength we have to protect our interests.

International dealings involve money, military power and respect. Respect comes when others know that we dont take rubbish from others. That we will use our money and military muscle to protect our interests, otherwise what is the use of money or military?

The problem with waiting to become 'strong' in future is that, that period of strength will never come. We will keep saying that we need to become 'stronger', and not use the resources in our hand to meet our objectives. We are already quite strong and powerful as a nation. We dont have to take this nonsense from OIC nations. But we do so because of lack of vision and confidence.

Many countries are working jointly with great effort and expense to prevent India from becoming "strong".

No India was not what it was a decade ago dont you see things have changed. China didnt care what the world said but they were focused and already the world was against them for Tienanmen massacre it is more suitable for their form of governance we are different.

My point is we need another decade to take on everybody internationally to matter and to enforce it.

I personally feel our politicians lack the confidence and will.

Mate,
in 1990s also we tolerated, why because we wanted to become 'stronger', we said, we want another decade, then we will be strong enough. In, 2009 we still want to be 'stronger' and we want to wait for another decade. In the next decade also we will say the same things. The problem here is not about strenght. Infact, there is no show of strength whatsoever. It is a test of confidence. And we as a nation are lacking in this. We should be confident enought to protect our interests with whatever strenght, instead of waiting for some obscure future, when we would be 'ready'.
