India S-400 Acquisition - News Updates and Discussions

It's a battalion.
A single battalion of S-400 comes with set of 8 Missile lunchers(2 of those trucks in above pic with 4 cannisters on them), a command and control post, Resupply vehicle, and a Powerful Radar and Fire control System.

What makes this deal so special is that we will be integrating all our SAMs n BMDs indigenous and foreign with the S-400.

If i am not wrong then each battalion has 2 batteries and each battery has its separate radar command post and fire control system


Was just listening to the news 3 systems will be on the western front and 2 on the eastern front.

Ofcourse we will be integrating our existing S 300 Aakash Spyder Barak 8 and AAD and PAD with this.But will we be able to integrate the AWACS?

Haven't read anything about integrating AWACS.

The Indian Air force is working with Tata & BEL to integrate all military and civilian radars in the country into a seamless network. This is a project that will be carried out in five phases, with the first two phases already complete.
Yes we shall be integrating our AWACS into this net as well.

9M96 E, 9M96 E2 - 1Km -40 KM(E2 120 KM) ,figher jets, awac, ballistic missiles with range of 3500 km and 4800m/s speed ,5 meter to 20 km (E2 30 km) altitude, 20g capable.

48N6E,E2,E3 - E -150 km,E2 -200 km, E3 -250 KM, 30 km altitude, mach 7, target speed 2800m/s, up to 6 targets at a time, 25 g capable, intercepts awac, cruise missiles, BM with 3500 km range (7 to 60 km alt)

40N6E- Range 380 KM, alt 185 km,awac,cruise missiles , BM with a speed of 4800 m/s speed.

It should be 8 of those trucks with 4 canisters in each. 8×4 =32 missiles. Remember it is said to be capable of engaging 36 or something targets at a time.

Yes, cause all Russian modern weapon systems are designed to be a part of digital battlefield and thus have open architecture.

China isnt signatory of MTCR.India is.

You mean China did not get all the missiles in the S-400 system because its not a signatory to the MTCR?
Which other missiles (apart from 40N6) in S-400 violate MTCR?

No. Any of S-400 missiles capable of shooting down any targets, the point is on what range is it guaranteed.

However official data says that 40N6 can engage aerodynamic targets from 400km.
It is obviousely about non-maneuverable or limited maneuverable targets like AWACs, tankers and cruise missiles.
Fighters can be warranty killed starting from 250km.

MTCR is not the point here hence it limits strike missiles technology distribution only.

The S400 India is buying is highly modified or we can say it is S450 which contains elements and missiles of S500 prometheus with Limited TOT and local manufacturing of several missiles, integration of Israeli radars and Indian Akash and Barak 8 Missiles. Later India will buy S500 for eastern borders. Earlier there were plans to buy 12 systems now they have changed the approach instead of buying out 12 S400 they will be buying 5 S450 system now and later shift to S500. Plus number of missiles are also more than what china has bought.

China's intentions are alway to copy the system so Russia does not provide them the latest versions whereas in India's case Russians know India will not cross them and offer the very latest and best ones which costs more.

Also Yassen class SSN and 2 Akulas are also coming so money has to stashed in other deals as nuclear subs are not tradeable.

I have no doubt that all of them can engage everything except fighter jets.

I belive give the size of the 48N6E and 40N6, they can't out turn a fighter jet.
