What i am seeing is that on the western border, now there is going to a additional air cover incase CSD is ever implemented.

It's like playing chess..
S400 will render 29 out of 43 major Pak airbases useless, it will provide a SAM umbrella to Indian Strike forces in the case of cold start all the way to the Indus.add to that the added protection of Akash/SOSNA and mobile SPAAG units & our Strike corps will be pretty much guarded from tac BMs like NASR.

To enable that we'll need S400 system to be deployed with maximum coverage

S400 systems consists of a number of missiles (as per Wiki and other sources)
40N6- 400 km
48N6E3- 250 km
48N6E2- 200 km
9M96E2- 120 km
9M96E- 40 km

Are we getting all of them as a part of this deal? Perhaps this was one of the motivations to sign the MTCR, in the absence of which we could not have obtained 40N6 as a part of this system.

AFAIK we are getting a number of 40N6 missiles as well, majority of the 6000 missile deal however is for some 3000 unts of the 48N6E2. Initially the plan was for lower ranges to be covered by the BARAK 8ER, however that plan seems to have been stalled now so expect some lower ranged interceptors as well.

Thanks for the reply BR. But why go for 3000 units of 48N6E2 and not 48N6E3? Wouldn't it be useful to have missiles that can strike 250km..unless of course the cost is prohibitive. Is this why we are getting fewer units of 40N6?

according to Wikipedia we also have 6 batteries of S-300 .

i think s-300 & akash are enough for paki Airforce .

if we are getting 5 batteries of s-400 then one will be installed in Andaman .

The five batteries will be barely enough to cover western and eastern borders. S300 will cover the cities where they are already deployed. Akash range is too short for it be more than a point-defence system.

When it comes to BMD, there's no such thing as an overkill.

Majority of the rest of the 3000 should be the 48E6E3 with another 500-100040N6, however again afaik the E2 missile will be the mainstay for our system. There will be no 9m96E units.

even china is buying only 6 battalions ................yes 5 battalions for India will not be enough but these systems are very costly ....................so they will be complemented by some cheaper options like Barak-8 , akash , Pantsir etc .

Couple of months back, paki media were going mad about the testing of our indigenous interceptor missile.

I wonder how would they react now that, PAF will be denied their own airspace without breaching IB&LOC.

Is there a chance we will buy the David's Sling to complement S 400?Or may be more S 400s later? No way 5 are going to suffice.

Right now, they are too stunned to even freak out - the fanboyz I mean, what with the strikes, Rafael and now this in seeming one punch after another.

They really have nothing that can go against this as even US has been hard pressed to come up with a counter to this system and they have real stealth fighters and other jamming, attack assets to deal with a comprehensive system such as this.

The Paki fanboyz, I am certain don't even comprehend air space denial at this stage.

They are costly but they have enormous deterrent value.
Perhaps we could order more follow on.

We need more and more.
Missiles in all forms offensive and defensive are most lethal platforms.
We need to invest more in missile tech than any other thing put together.

Remember it's still Russian missiles and nuclear warheads that keeps Americans awake they don't much care about anything else.
We need to learn the message and adopt asap

Decoding India's S400 Deal.
.
India is reportedly paying 5.8 Billion $ for 5 Regiments of S400.
.
Each S400 Regiment have 3 Battalions.
.
Each S400 Battalion have 8 Launchers (16 in case of Russia)
.
Each launcher have 4 SAMs.
.
We are looking at (5 x 3 x 8 x 4) = 480 SAMs in Ready to Fire (RTF) Mode.
.
S400 have equal number of reloads with several undisclosed number of spare missiles, therefore, India is officially buying (480 x 2) = 960 SAMs of S400 with several undisclosed number of spare SAMs.

Here I would again rant up my old cry. We should try to develop our very own Shaurya into one SAM in line of S-400. S-400 has been dubbed as and ABM Shield along with its SAM role because of the protective envelope of 400 Kms it create. But along with its range, we have to also notice its high KE. It does travel at Mach 15 which is a necessity for SAM role and its this speed which makes it more then competitive to other competitors.
Now Mach 7 of Shaurya is although half of Triumph, but with that speed too, it could be a lethal SAM and ABM platform for India. Now we can't attain the complete range of 700Kms with it in SAM role, but half of that would also be enough for us in current scenario.

Confirmed: India, Russia Agree Missile Sales , Joint Venture For Helicopters

GOA: India and Russia on Saturday announced plans to set up a joint venture to build helicopters in India, which will also buy surface-to-air missile systems from its former Cold War ally, as the two tighten their military relationship.
The pacts were signed after summit talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India's western resort state of Goa, where leaders from the BRICS group of emerging nations are meeting.
Indian military officials have said the plan is for the joint venture to build at least 200 Kamov helicopters required by the country's defence forces, and is part of Modi's drive to build a defence industrial base in the south Asian nation.
The S-400 surface-to-air missiles are meant to strengthen India's defences along its borders with China and Pakistan, Indian military officials have said.
