We are upgrading the Pechoras and the Strelas. There is no harm in upgrading Russian SAM systems in the inventory currently.

But $5 billion dollar is too much for french, we should go for israel..........Actually no We are developing the MAITRI as a Desi replacement of the SPYDER. We need to go indigenous in the long term.
But these things in air will be east target for air-air missiles?@bengalraider
if i may add beyond the isreali sword fish and lrtr radars there is also another solution which we are using now more aggressively.
We are now using aerostats more aggressively. DRDO plans are also aggressive in this segment.

The Nakshatra aerostat system aims to track a 450 kms radius, which is about four times the present 110 kms radius surveillance track of Akashdeep. The system being developed by the Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment (ADRDE), Agra can be tested up to 4.5 kms altitude, with a payload capacity of 800 kg to 1000 kg and will be 17,000 cubic meter volume.
Not much has been heard of the project since last two years. However, its scientists claim that the Akashdeep project is ready for use along borders, which has been tested at a height of 1 km with a payload of 300 kg.
so basically akashdeep at 110 km and nakhastra at 450 km feeds into our command system and acts as multiple point of detection even if topographical challenges exists for Long Ranged Radars
Nakshatra would be tested this year by the looks of a tender - Invitation of Bids for Hiring of Aerial Access platform for trial of Nakshatra Aerostat at Agra

so basically this will provide us a much better lower cost solution with far better coverage scope
Osam and kub should be upgraded as well.We are upgrading the Pechoras and the Strelas.
The reported number is 6b, but it is not clear how much was paid. But $5 billion dollar is too much for french, we should go for israel..........
How many SPYDER systems do we have?
We ordered 18, six were confirmed delivered by 2013. Dunno about the last three years. But $5 billion dollar is too much for french, we should go for israel..........
How many SPYDER systems do we have?
David's sling is a joint Israeli American product , was offered to us in 2010.How about Israel's david sling it had a range of 300km, we can maodofy it for 400km+
How much range is of iron dome system
Their bodyguard SPAAG systems will have to handle that. But these things in air will be east target for air-air missiles?
Iron dome kill radius is from 4km to 70 km. The Israelis are trying to extend it to 250km.How about Israel's david sling it had a range of 300km, we can maodofy it for 400km+
How much range is of iron dome system
70km range is it better than SPYDER systemIron dome kill radius is from 4km to 70 km. The Israelis are trying to extend it to 250km.
As far as my knowledge goes, MAITRI project has been revived to provide IN with a QRSAM as Akash was not fit for warship integration. But with the induction of BARAK 8 and work on ER version going on, do we really need MAITRI for IN?Actually no We are developing the MAITRI as a Desi replacement of the SPYDER. We need to go indigenous in the long term.
Much better in terms of range but iron dome is not designed to stop aircraft like SPYDER is. It's designed to stop short range projectiles only.70km range is it better than SPYDER system
The IN wants two types of SAMsAs far as my knowledge goes, MAITRI project has been revived to provide IN with a QRSAM as Akash was not fit for warship integration. But with the induction of BARAK 8 and work on ER version going on, do we really need MAITRI for IN?
Great work!! That said, the initial buy is for 6 full scale regiments and not batteries, a full scale regiment has upto 4 independent battallions each with 4 fire units, thus a full scale regiment as a whole can deploy 300+ missiles and each battallion can be upto a 100 km away from the Regiment's command centre. I am sure we will order atleast another 6-7 full scale regiments as part of 'Make in India' around 2019/2020. Eventually by around 2025, the S-400 will form a formidable protective net across India and Andaman.Anyhoo Just to easily explain what we are upto with the S400, we shall be mating the system to our own swordfish AESA LRTR radars built by DRDO with a detection radius of 800km.We are also developing a new improved swordfish with a 1500km detection range.
Just to give you all a clearer idea of the capabilities coming our way i made the graphics below.
1) Indian Radar Coverage with 5 Swordfish LRTR
Radars placed at Thirvuvanthanapuram, Guwahati,Bhuj ,Port Blair & Manali
We shall be able to see everything flying in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar,Bangladesh,Thailand,Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and most of Western China once these bad boys are deployed.
2) Indian SAM coverage with 6 S400 units
Units placed near Bhuj, Bikaner, Jammu, Bareilly, Gangtok and Dibrugarh
Look to the west we shall be be able to dominate Karachi, Hyderabad, Lahore, Islamabad, Sargodha , Rawalpindi and the Whole of Pakistan east of the Indus with only three S400 batteries.
Something like this?.
Well @cobra commando looks for any Indian media report... I don't believe those Russian media, one says MoS of defense other says Def minister
https://www.rt.com/news/341114-russia-india-sale-s-400/Russia and India have signed a contract for the supply of advanced S-400 air defense systems, a senior Indian defense official has said. The delivery will happen “as soon as possible.”
The signing of the contract has been confirmed by Rao Inderjit Singh, Minister of State for Defense Production of India, at an international security forum in Moscow, RIA Novosti and Interfax news agencies reported.
“We have signed this contract,” Singh told Interfax. As for the start of deliveries of the order, he noted "it is difficult to say. As soon as possible."
Russia's Defense Ministry has not yet commented on the reports.
The S-400 is the latest and most advanced of the long-range surface-to-air missiles produced by Russia. The Russian military is the only operator of the system, but China and India are expected to be the first foreign nations to receive it.
Media reports in 2015 said that India wants to buy five S-400 battalions.
Russia recently delivered a previous-generation S-300 variant of the air defense system to Iran, implementing a key defense deal between the two countries after lengthy discussions.
