India and Russia are going nowhere. Even in the worst of cross faction wars, they will not harm each other as the benefits outweigh hostilities. Both countries are the only 2 powers that don't have a single geopolitical conflict in any region of the world. Both don't share any region of influence, and no borders.

US is an empire and is not going to be reliable as we can see.

China is going to remain our nemesis till CCP exists.

Brazil is too busy firefighting its economy & is too far away for any meaningful alignment of geopolitical interests.

Japan will only do what the US will order it to do - the deep state controls them too much.

South Korea is neutral but is too tiny and once again under US control.

France is a solid strategic partner who has stood firm with us, but given the havoc in the EU and Germany's torn affections for USA and China, would compel it to focus in EU first.

That really leaves Russia as a viable powerful long-term partner.

Interesting conversation
Irrespective of what happens between India-China-Russia now, the Russians will eventually come back into the Western/Indian fold eventually when the Chinese become too powerful and the demographics of Siberia favor China. It is expected that by the end of this decade, ethnic Chinese will be a majority in Siberia, and China hasn't forgotten the Boxer Rebellion treaty, where it believes it's century of Humiliation started. Russia took Siberia then, and China has every intention of reversing that. This was seen during the Sino-Soviet split 60 years back, and more recently by prominent Chinese Politburo members and journalists of the State reporting that Vladivostok was originally called Haishenwai and was a part of China. The China-Russia relationship is untenable, just like the India-Bald Eagle one is.

It‘s a strategic far east resources deal, so such statements were expected.
Indian-Russian relationship goes back to Independence days just throwing that link due to differences is stupidity. Like pakis did with US relationship, they threw decades of bonhomie and now sucking up to be back in the good books of uncle Sam.
With regards to Russia its imperative the nexus with China is not formented, otherwise India will be isolated in Eurasia. In any case Russia has always supported India, during cold War days they gave us much needed weapons to defend our freedom. West would have raped us easily if not for Ussr.

Soo, laut ke Budhudhu Ghar ko aaye.
Should have never abandoned them un the first place fir a unreliable ally like the US. Even now after the fuck up in Afghanistan they fail to address the issue of pakistan.

Without Russia India is left with zero credible partners in the region.

We need to maintain a relationship that is good enough to prevent them from titlting to the other side completely.

I agree to each and every word , just that they didn't give the svinets round for t 90 , neither the gun metallurgy and also invar missile sent by them were dud.
Anyway without USSR india would have been in much worse shape.

Not for free. Do not forget the major infiltration KGB had in India and likely lead to worsening of Indian condition. Nothing is free in the world.

Nevertheless, there is ample evidence that jumping completely on the US bandwagon is not a sensible move. The US only accepts countries under 2 conditions:

1) if you are a white/Christian country, or willing to become Christian en masse
2) if you completely surrender your sovereignty to them like Germany, Japan or South Korea.

We don't fit in either bucket (in fact from (1), we are quite the opposite) and therefore are a rising competition to their narrative. It is just a matter of a few more years before the US-run order turns on us.

Is this a joke? India needs allies, but for some reason to moronic Indians its always at the expense of India. Forge a third way. Not Non-aligned.

We need strategic partners. Look at the US dispensation in the last few months and tell me - do you really think that they will be able to continue supporting us the way it was during the Trump or Obama era? Biden-Harris are viciously anti-Indian right from day one despite India showing all the favorable signs to wanting to have an alliance.

US-India strategic dialog, QUAD, Malabar, SIMBEX, Yudh Abhyas, etc.

I am not saying that we need to go into the stupid NAM again. NO. I am against the NAM nonsense that nearly turned us communists in the last 7 decades.

But we need a PLAN B. Something more serious with France and Israel, that allows us to be strong enough as an independent power but at the same time, gets us the right partners who are willing to enter a new world order with a new set of geopolitical concepts of strategic alignment. I am not saying that there are no friendly forces in the US; there are and I'd like our nation to cultivate the ties to the best possible extent.

Look at the current USA under Biden-Harris and tell me honestly; do you really think that they look like they are ready to fight China militarily in case PLA invades Taiwan? Do you think that the current war-weary US would ever push for their own boots on the ground to fight the PLA? We thankfully don't need the boots-on-ground part, but the Taiwanese do.

All I am saying is that we should do everything to weaken China's international position enough to get good favors in a mutually beneficial way without getting sucked into committed alliances.

But we are also going to get sucked into the Thucydides' Trap. It is inevitable with the Kissinger Mentality (KM) still pervades the US deep state. Russia may no longer be the reliable ally, but right now with the messy world situation, no major power is.

Jaishankar's idea to keep commitments limited to mutual strategic interests is the smartest move. The only thing that is lagging in this strategy is the speed of military capacity build-up. Faster than earlier but not fast enough.
