Hope that better sense will prevail. They have already shoved it down in Assam Rifles. To avoid single vendor situation for large tender, they need to have 1-2 domestic alternates under the DMR category.

There are local designs for all of them, or on the drawing board in the case of SPG, but never the less we have Mahindra's facility already up for the M777 and L&T one for K9. I am sure both are going to get extended orders. Athos is at the verge of getting a contract as well.

The list is silently indicative of India / MoD / Forces perception of DRDO / OFB / DPSU / Private industry achivements in attaining some sambalnce of self sufficiency which India would like to give a fillip by protecting them against imports. The list is item wise but the major ares in negative list list are :

1. Artilerry pertularly 155 mm Gun/ How of all varieties including ULH and its ammunition. But MGS and Wheeled SP variety not mentioned.

2. Radars and EW system of various types.

3. Surface ships of medium and small sizes

4. Neval systems and armaments including sonars.

5. Small Arms and ammunition of third class variety.

6. Tank ammunitions.

7. Simulators of various types.

9. wheeled Vehicles of various sizes.

10. Other Infantry items

OFB deserves applause for artillery sytems and DRDO must be applauded for Radars, Sonars, simulators and individual missile systems such as Astra. The shipyards and IN is a big winner in building surface ships and systems.

However, big things missing and a slap to DRDO for its failures in their longest-standing projects are :

1. ATGM of various varieties.

2. ASM of various varieties.

3. Tanks and AFVs excluding whaps.

4. IAF systems and weaponry..

I am betting on it happening. You have stupid procurement in the small arms with 3 different type of ammos, 3 different type of rifles, with 3 different vendors arming majority of the IA soon. Nothing surprises me any more. Time will tell.
