Thats what I said, if USA will show hostility then India might try to stop its students and skilled dudes to go to the USA.
You have Philippinos, Pakistanis, Chinese etc.. to take our place.. Most of us are not into Rocket science. In this respect, we are the ones who will be on the losing end..
What about the human cost, where those millions have to sell their property in US, take their kids out of school and come back to India. You have any idea how much Ran*i rona Indian media will do, and how much the opposition will heckle GOI if such a situation comes to pass.
This green card quota is creating a very tricky situation where in there are millions of Indians on H1B whose only hope is to somehow cling onto the US. The backlog is only worsening and it will only further provide leverage to the US. Its time India restricts Indians on H1b or L1 from applying for Green cards, especially in EB2 category..

Although Russia does not put arms trade sanctions on India; it uses its dominant position and India's dependence on it to the hilt. I hope India gets sanctioned, and the armed forces behave like forces belonging to an under resourced third world nation, and stop thinking that they deserve the world's best tech. What stops them, from going ahead with limited induction of ATAGS, or Whap, and then improving them with time. They were already jacking off to dreams of inducting ARMATA..
All Indian stakeholders should get together, and ensure development of good enough systems, in large enough numbers...
First world equipment imports mean first world (((benefits))) for the uniformed and other dalals.
Using Desi maal and improving it doesn’t.

India on track to acquire Russian S-400 missile defence system
India is on track to acquire the S-400 missile defence system, while it examines the US decision to impose sanctions on NATO ally Turkey’s defence industry over the purchase of the Russian system.

Persons familiar with the dynamics of India’s global outreach told ET that since New Delhi maintains autonomy in its foreign policy, the US decision won’t affect the Indian deal.

Last week, the external affairs ministry had emphasised that it pursued foreign policy based on national interest and hoped that this was appreciated by partners. “Our relations with Russia stand on their own merits, including in the sphere of military-technical cooperation,” MEA spokesperson had said.

Diplomatic sources indicated that India’s case is different from that of Turkey as Ankara went ahead with the purchase of S-400 system despite being a NATO member. The MEA had earlier made it clear that India had no plans to scrap its S-400 deal with Russia despite the US nudge. The Ministry of Defence had also expressed similar views.

The Indian government has not been comfortable with repeated US attempts to dissuade it from purchasing the S-400 system. Moreover, India has often taken a strong stand against the use of sanctions as a political tool by one country against the other.

In fact, after the June 15 clash with the Chinese PLA on LAC in eastern Ladakh, which resulted in the killing of about 20 Indian military personnel, India had requested Russia to expedite S-400 supply, following which Moscow assured that some systems would reach much before the deadline of 2021-end.

What’s with this fear mongering? Turkey is being sanctioned because of Erdogan and the US having become tired of his caliphate ambitions. Who on earth will sanction India similarly. We are not an NATO ally and most of the sanctions of the type put on Turkey will have almost no impact on India but will severely damage perception of the Americans. While there are concerns with any possible restrictions, CAATSA has loopholes specifically created for the likes of India. We’ll just have to hope they use it.

I’m a supporter of better India-US relations but I would balk at allowing them to dictate what we can do with important countries like Russia. Iran was bad enough but trying to separate the Indo-Russian relationship in such a crude manner is suicidal for the Indo-US relationship.
Exactly. No country can afford to enforce sanction against us. We have outgrown the period of sanctions, Even with all the tensions and rift, china still has not stopped imports from us, neither did they have taken any economic actions against us. It's because they know they will be the ones that gets deprived of a huge market. USA has more at stake than china when it comes to India. The deep state of USA will not allow any move against India in the near future cause their entire Asia Pacific strategy depends on us.

After the Tiananmen Hatyakand, US and EU stopped exports of Military maal to China as a part of sanctions.
Today 90% of their Military HW is fully Chinese, most parts of the supply chain, and what bits aren't they are already busy reverse engineering those from their Russian vassals.
I pray that US and EU sanction us also and stop exports of Military maal to us.

India's S-400 deal with Russia may trigger US sanctions: Congressional report
India's multi-billion dollar deal to purchase the Russian-made S-400 air defence system may trigger US sanctions on New Delhi, a US Congressional report has warned.

The Congressional Research Service (CRS) - an independent and bipartisan research wing of US Congress - in its latest report to Congress, said India is "eager for more technology-sharing and co-production initiatives, while the United States urges more reforms in India's defence offsets policy and higher Foreign Direct Investment caps in its defence sector."

Prepared for the members of the Congress for them to take informed decisions, the report went on to warn that "India's multi-billion dollar deal to purchase the Russian-made S-400 air defence system may trigger US sanctions on India under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act."

The CRS' reports are neither an official report of the US Congress nor reflect the view of Congressmen. They are prepared by independent experts for the lawmakers to take informed decisions.

In October 2018, India had signed a USD 5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile systems, despite a warning from the Trump administration that going ahead with the contract may invite US sanctions.

In 2019, India made the first tranche of payment of around USD 800 million to Russia for the missile systems.

The S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system.

Last month, Russia had said that implementation of its ongoing defence deals with India including the supply of a batch of S-400 missile systems is advancing well notwithstanding the threat of US sanctions.

At a press conference in New Delhi last month, Russian ambassador to India Nikolay Kudashev appeared to criticise the US sanctions on Turkey for procuring the S-400 missile systems under a USD 2.5 billion deal, saying Moscow does not recognise such unilateral actions.

"We do not recognise or welcome unilateral sanctions as a language or tool or instrument of interstate or international relations, other than those applied by the UN Security Council, this is also the case of Turkey," he said.

"As far as India is concerned, we share the same platform. India's position is also crystal clear. No sanctions are acknowledged other than those imposed by the UN Security Council. Whatever the future is, we believe that our ties could withstand the coming challenges," he said.

Kudashev was asked to comment on the US sanctions on Turkey under the provisions of the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

REFUSING TO BUDGE: 100 INDIAN OFFICERS TO LEAVE FOR RUSSIA IN JANUARY FOR S-400 SYSTEM TRAINING
Last week, US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster said that "sanctions are not designed to harm friends", but India will have to make a choice on the S-400. India's Ministry of External Affairs, while replying to possible sanctions, said it has an independent foreign policy that guides defence acquisitions in line with national security interests.

India is putting its induction plan for S-400 systems in top gear, unfazed by the threat of US sanctions, as defence sources said that a team of nearly 100 officers and airmen will go to Russia for training and maintenance of the massive systems later this month.

With the deliveries beginning this September the first S 400 squadron is set to become operational in India by the end of this year or the beginning of next year, said defence ministry officials in India.

The development comes days after US Ambassador to India Kenneth Juster said the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) was not formulated to punish friends and allies, but New Delhi must decide whether to extend its cooperation with Washington.

"Sanctions were never designed to harm friends and allies. India wants to keep its options open but ultimately choices need to be made", Juster said last Tuesday in New Delhi.

Recent reports from the US Congress have also suggested America could impose secondary sanctions under CAATSA. Nevertheless, India and Russia, have both confirmed that the $5.43 billion deal signed between the two countries in October 2018 is progressing well.

"India and the US have a comprehensive global strategic partnership. India has a special and privileged strategic partnership with Russia. India has always pursued an independent foreign policy. This also applies to our defence acquisitions and supplies which are guided by our national security interests", External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said in response to a question on the S-400 deal last Friday.

Defence Ministry officials are "very hopeful" that India will be able to get a "national security waiver" from CAATSA from the incoming Biden administration. The legislation was enacted by the US in 2017 to prevent countries from buying Russian weapons or Iranian oil.

To counter the sanction threat, India had earlier mounted a huge diplomatic military campaign to convince the outgoing Trump administration that inducting the S-400 is an "urgent national security requirement".

The highly automated S-400s can detect, track, and destroy hostile strategic bombers, jets and spy planes, missiles, and drones at a range of 400 km and will be pressed into service to counter threats from China and Pakistan.

India paid the first instalment of around $800 million to Russia for the missile systems in 2019.

The reason why India has a successful missile program today is sanctions. Also even though it delayed the program sanctions helped India learn and develop various indigenous components for the LCA.

INCHING CLOSER TO S-400: INDIAN MILITARY TEAM TO LEAVE FOR RUSSIA FOR TRAINING
"Coming out of the bipolar world and successfully proceeding through the current establishment of the polycentric order, our partnership is becoming even stronger, experiencing new areas and forms of mutually beneficial and forward-looking cooperation," the ambassador said

NEW DELHI: A group of Indian military personnel is leaving for Russia in the next few days to undergo training on key operational aspects of the S-400 air defence systems as Moscow looks at supplying the first batch of the missile to India later this year, officials said on Tuesday. Russian Ambassador Nikolay R Kudashev interacted with the group at an event in the Russian embassy on Tuesday during which he said the S-400 programme is one of the flagship projects in further boosting military cooperation between the two countries.

He said Indo-Russia military and military-technical ties were based on "ever growing extraordinary mutual interest", coherence, consistency and complementarity.

In October 2018, India had signed a USD 5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile systems, notwithstanding a warning from the Trump administration that going ahead with the contract may invite US sanctions.

India made the first tranche of payment of around USD 800 million to Russia for the missile systems in 2019. The S-400 is known as Russia's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile defence system.

Recently, the US imposed sanctions on Turkey under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) for purchase of S-400 missile defences from Russia.

Around 100 Indian military personnel are leaving for Russia this month for the S-400 training program, officials said.

Kudashev said military cooperation has been the main pillar of the special and privileged strategic partnership between the two countries and that the overall Indo-Russia friendship has become an important factor of stability in the region and the globe, according to a Russian embassy release.

"It is based on mutual trust and reflects the true spirit of our bilateral and multilateral commitments in the framework of our vision towards just and equal relations based on the international law and the UN Charter," he said.

"Coming out of the bipolar world and successfully proceeding through the current establishment of the polycentric order, our partnership is becoming even stronger, experiencing new areas and forms of mutually beneficial and forward-looking cooperation," the ambassador said.

Russia is expected to start delivery of the S-400 missile systems later this year.

Along with S-400 systems project, Kudashev said both sides are successfully moving towards implementation of AK-203 Kalashnikovs contract, the Ka-226 helicopters programme as well as cooperation in the areas of combat aviation including the Su-30MKI project.

He said both sides are also moving forward in several other projects like the main battle tanks (T-90), frigates, submarines and missiles and joint production of "unique BrahMos".

In October 2016, India and Russia had finalised a broad agreement to set up a joint venture between Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and two Russian defence majors for procuring 200 Kamov Ka-226T choppers for Indian armed forces.

According to the understanding, 60 Kamov-226T helicopters will be supplied to India in fly-away condition, while 140 will be manufactured in India. Russia had agreed to ensure transfer of technologies to India as part of the pact.

India and Russia finalised the deal for manufacturing AK-203 rifles during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to Moscow last year. More than 700,000 rifles are to be produced at an Indo-Russian joint production facility in India.

"Looking forward to an early implementation of the spare parts joint production agreement, which also fits well in Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) programmes. Work also is going on the mutual logistics support agreement, strengthening maritime cooperation, including in the Indian Ocean," the Russian ambassador said.

He said Russia intends to be one of the biggest exhibitors at the Aero-India in Bengaluru in February.

"We plan to demonstrate Su-57, Su-35 and MiG-35 fighter jets, helicopters Ka-52, Ka-226, Mi-17B-5, Mi-26 as well S-400 systems and many other new items and equipment," he said.

Delivery of S-400 missile systems to begin by November

The delivery schedule for the S-400 long range air defence systems was on track for the end of 2021 despite the COVID-19 pandemic, a senior defence official said.
Two official sources, also speaking independently, dismissed concerns over possible U.S. sanctions on the deal under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), stating this deal met national security considerations.

In October 2018, India had signed a $5.43 billion deal with Russia for five S-400 regiments despite objections from the U.S., with deliveries scheduled to begin end 2021.

Who Funds Pak’s Purchase of Western Military Equipment – Eastern Mirror

Thus, the Biden administration and other governments in the EU should remember that a hand of friendship extended to the Pakistanis along with Aid and an assurance to take Pakistan of the FATF grey List in June 2021, may lead to key defence technologies being delivered on a platter to the Xi Jingping and the CCP Armed Forces.

Yes western countries must take lesson from war on terror as most of their military and political analysts warn USA that porkistan is using their aid to fund other terror outfit and in order to increase their nuclear warheads

Relinquishing S-400 out of CAATSA sanction fear will give wrong signal to everyone. To Russia that we are no longer reliable and to USA that we can be cowered. Uncle Sam cannot treat us like Pakis as we pay hard cash for systems we buy.
S-400 in our arsenal is a damn good acquisition.
