1) No mmrca deal of 114 aircraft will ever be signed. Instead iaf is going for tejas(mk2,mk1A, orca) (300+)

2) Chinook is mostly ordered to airlift m777 and to replace mi 26
We have ample fleet of Chinook for this work

3) army is conveting 130 mm M-46 about 1000 in number to 155mm gun. So when this project will be completed. We will have about 1700+ 155 mm gun(approx-1200 M-46 and 410 bofors+dhanush+m777).
Even no country in this world would have so much of 155 mm towed guns

4) navy already have 125 German SUT torpedo. Chilean navy is also using this torpedo for their Socrpeane class subs.
During 2006 34 exocet missile ordered.
In 2016 12 harpoon missiles were ordered to be fired from submarine

5)our air defence guns arsenal is already huge. That's need Upgradation not replacement with modern radars and electronics.


6) AWACS is used for coordination , situatinal awareness, anti jamming, etc.
Even sukhoi su 30 with its powerful radar can easily do it. Sukhoi su 30 is mini AWACS in itself. It can easily coordinates with mig29 and mig21 fleet and sukhoi su 30 can do same roles that an AWACS can do but at smaller level.
Rafale with powerful avionics, electronics and radar can do same thing that a AWACS can do. It can easily coordinated with Jaguar and mirages.

1. Tejas mk2 at best won't see service before 2028... even MK1A deadlines are suspicious

2. Absolute BS... then why keep option for additional orders in the previous deal

3. Again BS... order placed only for 300 conversions till now... & that too is not meeting deadline &even after conversion... it remains a "poor man's howitzer"

4. SUT belongs to previous generation... & Chile does not have a tough neighbourhood.... Pakistan is operating sea hake torpedo which has double range & effectiveness

IED making is a skill. Big IEDs need special materials (explosives) and very special skills.

IA takes out the skilled IED makers and sneaking things in Kashmir is seriously hard.

1. 114 are unlikely to be signed specially after the 2 waves which have hit the economy very bad. At max IAF can go for 2-3 more squadrons of rafale maybe with 1 of them being F4 version, and recently the statements that France has been giving in India's favour and IAF cheif visiting rafale facilities and modi who might have had also gone to those facilities had his France trip not been cancelled, makes me think this is the max we can go for.

2. Had the IAF asked for more? Chinook mainly lifts the M777, we don't have so many of these that we'll need more chinooks. As far lift capability is concerned in an excercise in 2018/19 and in 2020 against the standoff IAF displayed great lift capability. What I'll be more interested in nowing is how do they plan to replace the ageing IL76 as C17 production is closed.

3. If ATAGS clears the trials this year, which have begun ig and the price is negotiated then ATAGS might enter production else the army is likely to go with ATHOS and maybe then its truck mounted variant. M777 might be given further orders depending on how the IA felt about it in Ladakh. Dhanush artillery have been ordered ig but they are running way behind schedule.

5. Which air defence guns, don't we already have enough? Imo upgrading them should do fine. Recent visit of SoKo defence minister might see a push of K21 Biho.

6. There were reports last year of IAF indulging in talks with russia and Israel to buy 2 more Phalcon AWACS for 2 billion dollars. There was a project sanctioned for about 10k crores to make 6 AWACS on Air India flighs. Recent statement of IAF cheif indicates we might go for more Netras. I guess he also said something about Airbus A330 based AWACS towards end of this decade.

With not a very big defence industry of our own we are always limited in almost all aspects and with the economy struggling buying from outside isn't too feasible either.
