Why is this something that people keep asking for? Is it the PM's job to comment on every single criminal incident in India? As for what's happening on the borders, what is the value in a statement? Is this the first time soldiers/civilians have fallen in JK? Does every single such incident get an official comment from the govt of the day prior to 2014?

About 75% of this thread are emotional outbursts asking why Pakistan can't be nuked or why these attacks keep happening, come on guys.


For as long as Pakistan exists and feels incentivised to act in the way they do then these attacks will continue, it's not rocket science. It doesn't matter what GoI is in power or what specific weapons India acquires (Brahmos, SCALP, attack helos etc).


What one has to do is look at the bigger picture, why now and for what purpose? There is nothing random that happens in Kashmir.

This is difficult but has to be done if GOI wants non Kashmiri workers to be present there. Aim is to clearly put a dent in GOI narrative on relevant articles being rolled back, put a spanner in integration efforts, force an exodus of non Kashmiri's/Hindus, send a message to India & perhaps force India to "talk to Pakistan" (courtesy ISI).

These random killings might be difficult to stop. Response could be to extract a cost on handlers such that they will force the foot soldiers to tone down.

Seems about right. This is the first direct response to Art 370 we have seen and its hitting the most critical part of eliminating the Kashmir problem- demographics.


Like you say it's incredibly hard to stop these things and civilians are a very soft target. What's surprising is India's inability to disrupt this network by now, unless it's more than one cell working on a common goal but it's hard to believe that there isn't sufficient counter-intel capability inside the urban areas of Kashmir to go after specific cells.
