Maybe then sacrificing a Mig21 and Mi17 would have been worth the price. My gripe is with IAF's preparedness on that day with "highest alert" status and all - how the eff can you let a strike package of 24 planes go unmolested?!? Nothing that the IAF did that day inspires confidence!!

Well, problem is we are judging our entire AF by a battle (not even an skirmish) which lasted ~5 mins. 24 planes did not intrude inside our territory, they kept a huge margin and shot BVRs & loitering munitions instead.Not really. Its a myth that Western forces are more competent. US & Israel yes, because they are constantly at conflict and keeping their blades sharp. Any European AF without US coordination & air cover will be just same.
We do have Chinese as adversary and they do posses partial Soviet like capability of saturation attacks. If PAF sent 24 jets and overwhelmed us. Think about ideas chinese got from that.
