Anyone knows how long will the inquiry take place. It's been 50 days , yet nothing came out , why he did that .

Nothing usually comes out, things happened at Bathinda military station as well but nothing really came out after the initial days

FLASH: Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Northern Army Commander reveals that retired Pakistani soilders have joined terrorist groups.

"Some of the terrorists have been found to be retired soldiers of the Pakistan Army’s Special Forces. Pakistan is sending foreign terrorists into J&K as there are no local recruits here. We are trying to eliminate the foreign terrorists", he said.

sab dab jaata hai most of the time

Do any one of you have pictures of sniper rifle used by those terrorists ?
Wanted to know what weapons they are using apart from AK series
Don't know about the recent one, but years back one M-24 sniper rifle was recovered during a search operation.

Excuses will start pouring now, the same story every time -
  • Jungle was dense
  • Trts were at a height
  • They were hiding in caves
  • They had local support
RR / 9 PARA has been operating in Kashmir for 30+ years, still, these factors are still surprising you?

What I am getting from different sources, is it is very easy to trigger IA and bait them into an ambush. They swallow the bait whole and chase you like a mindless bull.
Plenty more plus the fight to take credit for the kill.

Quoting Hindu because they have narrated the incident as it actually happened. A few pliant media houses either redacted the story or edited it leaving out the inconvenient bits.

Army, CRPF claim credit for terrorists’ killing
HamberMenu

June 28, 2016 02:50 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:11 pm IST - NEW DELHI:
Barely an hour after eight Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed in an ambush by two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants in Pampore area of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, the Army and the CRPF had rushed to claim credit for killing the terrorists.

A senior CRPF official said that while they were busy evacuating the injured personnel on June 25, the Rashtriya Rifles unit of the Indian Army, which is also posted in Pampore, arrived at the scene and took away the two AK-47 rifles used by the LeT terrorists. The commanding officer of the CRPF had to be sent to the Rashtriya Rifles base in Pampore to bring back the weapons, also a crucial piece of evidence, claimed the official.

“When the commanding officer of the CRPF reached the RR camp, their photographer was clicking pictures of the jawans with the weapons. The idea was to establish that they had killed the terrorists and recovered the weapons.”
Army officials denied the CRPF’s claims and said it was a joint operation and they had handed over the weapons to the Jammu and Kashmir police in accordance with the law.

Tweet corrected
The friction between the two forces started when the Northern Army command posted a message from its official Twitter handle on June 25. The message, posted at 5.38 p.m. on Saturday, read: “Army kills two terrorists who fired upon CRPF convoy at Pampore, Kashmir Ops in prog. Injured CRPF personnel being attended to.”

The CRPF top brass took up the matter with RR officials. An hour later, another message was posted from the Twitter handle of the Northern Command, which said: “Two terrorists killed by CRPF in retaliatory action. Earlier tweet stands corrected.”

The official also claimed that two packets of dates, which the terrorists were carrying, were taken away by the RR troops.

“We literally had to fight with them to get back the weapons. The fact is that the CRPF jawans, who were in an armoured vehicle behind the bus, were the ones who killed the terrorists. RR unit reached the scene of attack almost 15 minutes later,” said the official.

An Army official denied taking away the weapons. “The RR troops which responded helped evacuate CRPF casualties as well as terrorists from the site of the encounter. Bodies of terrorists and their weapons, ammunition and magazines were handed over to J&K police as per the law.”

-------------------------

The videos on twitter back then showed both sides going at each other aggressively with guns drawn. Downright embarrassing and shameful.

Lt Gen Dwivedi said, "While we lost five our brave soldiers in the encounter, we also eliminated two dreaded terrorists. Our boys went after the well-trained and equipped foreign terrorists without giving any thought to their personal safety. This (taking out the dreaded terrorists) has dealt a major blow to the terror ecosystem and Pakistan. As per our estimation, 20-25 terrorists could still be operating in the area. We should be able to control the situation in a year's time with the help of locals."
Losing lives of soldiers in peace time for a fickle minded awam is an old virtue of the Army. We are only going downhill from here if this 'tradition' takes deeper roots.

Kashmir needs a badass GoC because once the clock is reset to 2016-17 like situation, we don't want to be running clueless like headless chicken and we don't have someone like Gen. Rawat to take over and stand up for his men in front of babudom and netas.

Pak SSG has been training terrorists in Kashmir (especially Fidayeen ] since decades.. seems like excuse for the high number of officers being killed..
Anyway, 20 officers being killed in a year.. is not a big deal..

They may be better off carving a separate grid in the current troubled zone, set up a CRPF CobRA training center or two, get JKP and SOG into the act. Presence of boots on the ground would definitely help in the short term. Mandate has to be crystal clear.

In the end, its up to the Govt. to decide if they are OK paying compensation for dead soldiers every year or spend cash in a project that doesn't give RoI in absolute terms.

Yeah.. and keep the kill count in Pakistan ticking.

This year 27 IA soldiers have been KIA in kashmir. A high percentage of them are officer level. I wonder what is the ratio for previous years. Portals like SATP do not cover it

This thread is pretty depressing....esp if you were once an Indian army fan
Summarizing:
Lack of on ground leadership, in fighting between two groups to take credit, no retrospective of any event done, zero learning from mistakes and in general medocrity , incompetency all round in on ground decision, use of force and technology.
....Sounds like a 1980 PSU company to me

20 officers dying in a war is acceptable.

20 officers dying in avoidable circumstances (for most cases) fighting counter insurgency in your own backyard and refusal to correct course is criminal negligence.
