The terrorists we fought in Kashmir were pretty much direct veterans of the Soviet Afghan war. This exact thing that happened to Soviets in the Soviet Afghan war. Soviet prisoners were often beheaded, castrated, eyes and skin peeled out, tortured so gruesomely.^^^
Very good article on the Kashmir violence/terror from the 90s on. That bit about Bikash Nazary the BSF officer, was sickening reading. Can you imagine what he went through before being 'executed'? If this had happened to an American, British, Israeli, Canadian or French soldier, the name would be propagated everywhere, and become a virtual battle cry. In India, it's doubtful that more than a handful of people know that name. I'm sure the BSF retaliated in degree( though not necessarily in kind) to those Afghan sadistic savages. And the villages where he was paraded should be named and shamed big time, and punished in some way.
This is the difference between ISI trained savages and regular al Qaeda insurgents in Kraq and west Asia. The Afghan insurgent is probably the most violent in the entire Muslim world, followed by the Kashmiri/Pakistani. We were fighting the same folks who the Soviets fought. This is why I hope Indian army can get some more respect for its efforts and adjustments. Despite having so little they have done well.
And I’m sure they did. There are definitely many cross border OPs we know nothing about to this day.
