What good does a friendship with Nepal bring to India? What good does Nepal bring to us strategically or diplomatically? Do we even need to be allies? Nepal has always been a trojan horse for a lot of illegal activities including terrorism emanating from Pakistan. Not to mention the armtwisting every now and then for favors. What do we get in return? Being neutral with them will do. Let them be on their own, let them go to Chinese sphere, let them see for themselves what good China brings to them. Let them find the port access through China. Let them export their manpower to China. Pakistani people will soon realize what Chinese are. Sri Lanka and Maldives know them now after being trapped in their debt. African people are waking up slowly.

Friendship should not be based on some goodwill gesture, it should be based on common ground of diplomacy and mutual strategic advantage.

OUR FRIENDSHIP SHOULD BE EARNED.

India conducted regime changes in 3 countries - Maldives, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. Nepal will also join the list.

25% of the Nepal population is Madhesi Origin which are culturally more inclined to Mithilla Bihar.

TBH there is RAWs fault in Nepal blunder as well. How come Communism crept into Nepal and our intelligence agencies didn't get a wind of it?
For once we can assume that RAW did report it but Khangress failed to act on the intel.
Antonio Manio has really fucked up our foreign power projection in her ten years of Rule.
2004 to 2014 a decade lost to political incompetence, coincidentally most of Nepals political Revolution happened at the same time from Monarchy to Parliamentary democracy and that too remained unchecked.

Some maggots on this forum itself had advocated against interfering in internal matters of Nepal, now behold of the result. We wanted to be the gud boi and set an example of Country with moral. But this is Kalyug morlity can be bought in the market. China being the bad boi that they are interfered in Nepal and made a favorable environment for themselves.

People saying this is gonna calm down if Oli is removed, let me make this clear it will not. This matter is set in the national agenda in the nation and no political party will ever try to rearrange its map. Damage has been done.

China- 1 India- 0

Morality has fucke* us in the arse time and time again yet people refuse to learn.
Communist were ruling West Bengal very recently and left was prominent in upa govt till India usa nuke deal.

So rise of communism in Nepal is not surprising.

Disunity among hindus is a major reason for maosist/ communist rise as marginalised people of lower caste and tribes fall prey to false equality of communism.

The solution of all these ills is re-assertion of Hindu indentity.

Anti Oli protests and sentiments increase at Nepal border as Oli government seals border.

Sir, I know this border well. People across Mahakali River in Eastern Nepal can not survive without their counterparts in Pithoragarh and Dahrchula. They are very thickly intertwined by markets, employment as labor, marriages, and social custom. Adjoining Kumaon and Garhwal (Uttarakhand) is the main area of employment for the Dotials , the people of Doti, as the region in Nepal is known. There is going to be Mayhem as the areas also happen to be a major Maoist base.

Let us see how Uttarkhand with a sizable Gorkha population in Dehradun reacts.

Lipulekh and Tinkur Passes : A Backgrounder

Extracted from : https://idsa.in/idsacomments/ControversyoverLipu-LekhPass_nnayak_080615

Lipulekh and Tinkur passes are situated on Tibatan borders with India and Nepal. Traditionally Lipulekh pass has been under Indian control and Tinkur pass just Esat of it under Nepal's Control. Both the passes serve the same purpose. Lipulekh has now been connected by a raod by India and raod construction to connect Tinkur is not progressing well in Nepal. The disputed area Kalapani and North has no population nor any natural resources and territory is has not much of economic value. Now since India has been able to connect Lipu Lekh with a raod Nepal is raking up the dispute to deny the advantages to India at the behest of China.

Lipu-Lekh Bacgrounder

* China and India have been mentioning Lipu-Lekh Pass as one of their border trading points since 1954.
* The agreement on trade and intercourse with Tibet signed in April 29, 1954 states that “traders and pilgrims of both countries [India and China] may travel by following passes and route: (1) Shipki-La pass…(6) Lipu-Lekh Pass.”
* Rajiv Gandhi’s visit to Beijing in 1988. During the visit, both countries agreed to resume border trade and sign fresh agreements in this regard.
* A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Resumption of Border Trade was signed in December 1991 during Prime Minister Li Peng’s visit to New Delhi. In an effort to strengthen border trade through the mutually agreed designated trading routes,
* India and China further signed a Protocol of Entry and Exit procedure for border trade in July 1992. Interestingly, Lipu-Lekh pass was mentioned in both these agreements as a mutually recognized border trading point.
Subsequently, both countries agreed to expand border trade in 2003 by including Nathu La as the entry and exit point, according to the MoU signed in December 1991.
Lipu-Lekh Pass, which was mentioned in the joint statement of May 15, 2015 during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to China
In effect, Lipu-Lekh has been a recognized trading and pilgrim route between China and India since 1954.

Why Bring In China

* Officially, Nepal brought the issue before India after the signing of the Mahakali treaty in 1996. India assured Nepal to resolve the issue by having a joint technical committee. The committee was formed in 2002.
* The issue was once again discussed between then Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and his Nepalese counterpart Upendra Yadav in 2008. It is here when Nepal statrted bringing in China into the dispute as a counterweight.
* From 1954 to 2015, China did not claim the Lipu-Lekh Pass as a tri-junction. Had the Lipu-Lekh been a disputed territory or part of Nepal, China would not have signed these MoUs with India.
* The issue of Kalapani was raked up in 1914.India and Nepal had agreed to resolve the existing border dispute amicably through bilateral mechanisms during Modi’s August 2014 visit to Kathmandu
* Nepal raked up the issue of Lipu-Lekh which was mentioned in the joint statement of May 15, 2015 during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to China.
* Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala was brought under pressure from his coalition partners to lodge a formal diplomatic protest against the joint statement.
The Nepalese desire to bring in China as the third party to dispute thus is clearly motivated as there is no dispute regarding the border with Nepal or Lipulekh. Nepal's desire to ring in China is motivated by their desire to extract undue benefits and use China as a counterweight. Since China can not deny the historical facts on Lipu-Lekh it is also using Nepal to spoil the Indian achievements.

It is in this context that Mr Gagan Thapa, MP of Nepal in reply to Mr Swaraj's letter to Manisha Koirala has not given correct arguments and sidelined main issues or rather tried to confuse the whole affair. It is undeniable that Nepal wants to pressurize India via China and Manisha Koirala is equally guilty of it.

India and Nepal relations are always best. This new communist government is causing problem. We should kick this government out. We should be very active and ensure that we bring India friendly government to power in Nepal.

‘It is urgent for PMs Modi and Oli to get on the phone and to work double-time for de-escalation and delinking’

#Muslims in #Nepal demand a #Hindu state as atheism & #Secular laws under a #Communist regime begin to hurt them.

Indian officials’ snub to envoy Acharya in New Delhi does not bode well for talks reports ⁦@kathmandupost⁩. Nepali envoy ⁦@nilacharya⁩ is being given the cold shoulder by New Delhi, it reports.

I agree to his views but sometimes it becomes necessary to show the Nepalese twitter warriors their place. SA is playground of Big Boys i.e. India & China; It's just a show for other countries to sit back & watch. They don't need to jump into the ground to get trampled in melee.

Gen. Naravane has hurt Gurkha sentiments: Nepal Minister (Nepal defence minister Ishwar Pokhrel)

Mr. Pokhrel maintained that their army would act as and when required by Kathmandu. “It would definitely play its role in the right time, as per the directives of the government based on our Constitution... If needed, it will fight.”:eek1:

After Souring Relations Through Border Dispute, Nepal Seeks Access To Indian Palm Oil, Tea Markets
by M R Subramani

K P Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal
K P Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal
Snapshot
  • While Nepal, on one hand, has objected to India inaugurating a road through Lipu Lekh Pass, which it claims to be its territory, it wants access to India’s markets on the other.
Undeterred over cancellation of licences for import of refined palm oil from its kingdom, Nepal has written to India to allow its traders to export the edible oil besides tea to the Indian market.
The plea to the Narendra Modi government comes on the heels of India cancelling licences to import 2.93 lakh tonnes of refined palm oil from Nepal on 11 May this year.
India had cancelled the import permits since Nepal does not produce palm oil and some Indian importers were taking unfair advantage of the South Asian Free Trade Agreement to bring the commodity duty free, flouting the rules of origin.

Under the rules of origin, a product will have to originate from the country of exports. In the case of palm oil, importers get it imported duty-free from Malaysia or Indonesia and then divert it to India as Nepal does not produce the oil.
Nepal media myRepublica, quoting Nepal Ministry of Commerce and Supplies, reported that two separate letters have been sent to Indian government agencies concerned through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry urged that Nepali traders be permitted to export tea and refined palm oil in the Indian market — both top the list of commodities exported from Nepal to India.

The development comes amidst souring relations between New Delhi and Kathmandu.
Nepal has objected to India inaugurating a road through the Lipu Lekh Pass, which it claims to be its territory.
Besides, Nepal has upped the ante against India in the last couple of weeks.

First, the Nepal Cabinet approved a new map showing some Indian regions such as Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh as its territories.
Second, Nepal Prime Minister K P Oli has blamed India for the spread of the novel Coronavirus in his country and also sparked off a controversy saying the virus traced to India was more ‘lethal’ than the ones traced to China.
Nepal has also pointed out that it imports $7 billion worth of goods from India. Nepal Rastra Bank has said that while Indians repatriate $3 billion every year back home, Nepalese repatriate less than $1 billion.

An unnamed Nepal Commerce Ministry official said that India has not responded to Nepal's plea yet.
Quoting Purna Kumar Karki, Jhapa Tea Entrepreneurs Association President, myRepublica said Nepal exported tea worth Rs 63 crore to India last year.
However, it would be wrong on Nepal’s part to interpret the cancellation of palm oil import licences as some sort of vindictive action by New Delhi.
Along with Nepal, India has also cancelled licences to import palm oil from Bangladesh.
Indian domestic sectors such as edible oil refiners, spice manufacturers and tyre makers have been badly affected by the misuse of the FTA provisions to import commodities such as palm oil, spices, and tyres duty-free.
Though the free trade pact had been violated for quite some time, India has woken up to the reality of fraudulent imports and begun taking action only now.
The Centre is trying to discourage refined palm oil imports as it wants the domestic solvent extractors and refiners to utilise their idling capacity.
India is also acting against tea from Nepal as its imports are affecting prices for the premium Darjeeling tea here.
Unchecked flow of Nepal tea led to 20-25 per cent fall in Darjeeling tea prices last year.
India’s concern is more over Nepal tea being shipped and sold as Darjeeling tea, which has patent protection and been given a Geographical Indication tag.
A reader of myRepublica pointed out that palm oil from Nepal is sold by traders and the Himalayan kingdom does not benefit from either import or export of the edible oil.
Indications are that Nepal's ruling Communist government is acting at the behest of China and the Oli government could make things tough for itself as Kathmandu depends on India for access to many things, including petroleum products.

Flash: Nepal parliament will not be taking the constitutional amendment for the Nepal Map. New Nepal Map showcasing Indian territories as Nepal territories can get legal backing only once the constitution can be amended.
LOL.... :rofl: :pound: :pound::pound:

I also agree with the views of Abhijit A Mitra. We dot lose the friends like that. There could be differences but it takes understanding in retaining friends the Panchatantra way.

Today's Nepal is politically democratic party politics. It is a Nepal where interests of some political forces spread across borders to India or China. The political instability is so much that they have not been able to agree on constitutional amendments. The ruling party does not even know if they will be in power tomorrow.

Under such conditions the peoples power is supreme. By such stupid mindless acts we can not afford to insult and antagonizing the people. It is the people which should now become India's constituency in opposing the NCP's moves on Lipulekh. Lipulekh was never with Nepal and people in Nepal never agitated for Lipulekh. The issue is being cashed in by one party for political gains. It is only by influencing the people that a political change can be brought... No way by heaping insults...

South of Himalayas we enjoy the same ecosystem, flora, fona, water and cool air with centuries-old bonds of religion and culture.

It seems those Nepali accounts flooding Twitter were actually Pakistani and Chinese bots/fake accounts. They were activated in droves and all of a sudden to spread animosity.

This for real ? Can anybody confirm this ?

Nepal takes back it's National Map change proposal. Indian diplomacy has prevailed over the Himalayan nation which has deep ties with India. Those going bonkers for past few days , should just shut up.
