According to Israeli media report India might rope in Israeli Military Industries (IMI) for joint partnership in the design and development of the proposed homemade future main battle tank and setting up a facility to jointly manufacture a variety of ammunition , India recently quietly lifted a ban on Israeli Military Industries (IMI) which it had imposed few years back due to corruption charges against them.

In past IMI has worked with India on development of Arjun tanks . Indian army has still not cleared if new tank will be follow up of Arjun MK-2 tank or they want all new tank similar to weight class of T-90 . DRDO carried out third-party evaluation after disputes with Indian army emerged on performance of Arjun tanks, IMI was roped in which endorsed Arjun tanks performance has Excellent and on par with Tanks which are made in Israel . Israeli experts were also of the opinion that Arjun would outrun any competition, including Russian built T-90 tanks which are also in Indian Army's Arsenal .After blacklisting IMI consultation for Arjun tank was curtailed but now India likely will re-engage with them soon .

What do you need IMI for?

On a second thought, may be their electronics become useful. That you can buy these outright.

You do not need Israelis to show you how to design and build a tank. If German are asked to help to sort out any design issues, that will be great.

Arjun 1&2 design is sufficiently advanced. It's armour is better. It's German engine makes it to achieve higher speed. I will ask German metallurgy and technology to make the gun more effective.

During Israeli confrontation with Hezbollah eight years back, several of Israeli Merkava were shot up by them. Infact Israeli soldiers abondoned them and sprinted away.

We can take the help only from those who give or offer it, because only Israel is ready to help, and Germany will not share its technology with India, but will ask us to buy its finished products and won't even transfer its technology for production in India, and more off Germans are controlled by the Americans who can impose sanctions on countries like India because they don't like something that we might do which might threaten their Friend's in the region, and it is right said that America or the US never had a friend or a foe really because everything that they did was in their economic and strategic interest, whereas Israel is not bothered about anybody else.

the other important point you perhaps missed is that they have been taken off the banned list .....in the past mostly due to our corruption , which i am glad to note has reduced significantly to be now less than china, we had to blacklist companies to the extent that we then had less choices to buy from

that ridiculous situation is now being alleviated with these moves ....recognizing ourselves as the main culprit, and reducing our own tendency to accept bribes will take more companies off the list and actually be a boon to us

Absolutely...Israel can provide India with technology..
What can anti israelis provide us with? Suicide bombers and rudimentary bomb making skills or Rodent skills for digging tunnel?
I think India should partner with hamas palestine muslims to get advance technology for sewage system and underground communication system !!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Contingency planning is also applicable to israel. Like in kargil war they were supportive in supplying us and also that their distance away from conflict enabled them to supply without inhabition - one can understand why Israel would appreciate a tank manufacturing unit and supply source in India in case of necessary support. India is not far by sea and also Indian navy have reach to project such. The question next is why only tanks and ammunition what else. Contingency planning

It is better to work on the existing Arjun Mark - 2 and improve on its turret design.

Better to go for a incremental approach on the existing design...

Probable Arjun Mark - 3 with 1) Redesign Turret with auto loader
2) Smooth bore gun to fire NATO & Indian ammunition
3) 1800 / 2000 HP engine
4) Keep weight no more 60 T

Hope now IA would not object to the weight of tanks like Arjun as Merkava itself weights a whooping 68tons with full battle gear like that of Arjun. But if it does takes place, then it would be interesting to know what sensors and electronics is there in offer.

I thought we were going in for this.....

Armata T-14.

It is part of the "Armata" Universal Combat Platform which is the basis of the T-14, a combat engineering vehicle, an armored recovery vehicle, a heavy APC, a tank support combat vehicle, air defence, NBC systems and several types of SP Artillery, based on the same chassis.

The new "Armata" tank platform is meant to replace the older Russian MBTs and APCs that are currently used by the Russian military.

India has expressed interest in this universal platform, as standardization is the key to cost effectiveness.

India and Israel face similar challenges in any future tank battle, i.e. large flat deserts and fields and crowded cities with narrow passages. We might face a similar adversaries as well because of Chinese Tank proliferation in the Mideast and Pakistan in the future.Hence this makes a lot of sense!
Our existing heavy tank program has been heavily influenced by the German Leo 2 program and it would make sense to developing a desi Leo 2a7 Analogue in the meantime though.
