Taliban delegation from Afghanistan led by its chief negotiator has held talks with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in China, as talibs take control of around half the country up to its border with the Chinese region of Xinjiang.

So with China now engaging taliban, what’s next?

Russia, Pakistan and China are with the Taliban. It’s only a matter of time.

US ain’t going to hang around much longer.
India too is with taliban , and if we are not then sardarji it will be back to 90s era .
Usual things like no contact etc , if I were brutally honest, I feel the situation is moving towards complete isolation of india in afganistan

Without direct land access to Afghanistan, there is nothing much India can do independently.. And we can't depend too much on Iran.. as they too have their own equation with the Taliban..

Dreaming China

They are not dreaming, they are placing their bet on Taliban (which is looking the likely winner).

You must understand China - they will work with the devil if it brings benefit to them. There is a reason they are called the Asian Jew.

Our gamble on Afghanistan meanwhile was dependent on US being around and providing stability.

Again you must understand the Pashtuns in Afghan hinterland. Development and democracy is not on their mind, they just want to be left alone to practice tribalistic primitive lifestyle.

China is demanding to hand over Taliban commander Haji Furqan, a Chinese national from Xinjiang and senior leader of ETIM who led recent offensive in Wakhan Corridor in Northern Afghanistan. Taliban have reportedly refused to comply on the demands.

And knowing that, China is still engaging taliban.

What does it say about their thoughts on the current Afghanistan government maintaining control?

Nothing much, chinese are looking at a very easy removal of kabul government , which may not happen.basically they are doing what pakistan is telling them the situation is.

Pakistan will never allow China to gain total influence over Taliban (Afghanistan in general)

The 'Pashtun Unity' from both the countries will be a nightmare scenario for the Pakistanis.
