India gives list of terror camps to Bangladesh

Kolkata

The Border Security Force (BSF) has given a list of terrorist camps operational in Bangladesh to its counterpart, the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), asking them to find and dismantle them, a top BSF officer said Friday.

"We have given the BGB a list of terrorist camps operational in Bangladesh and asked them to find and dismantle them. The terrorist groups which are proactive in the northeastern part of the country include The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), The All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), The Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA), among others," BSF Director General Raman Srivastava said here.

Srivastava returned to the city Friday after leading a 21-member delegation to Dhaka for the bi-annual conference with the BGB. He said the BSF hoped to bring down the killing of unarmed Bangladeshi nationals across the border.

"One of the major issues discussed was the killings across the border. We have assured them and hope that we can bring down the figure to zero. After our personnel have been armed with non-lethal weapons, the killings have come down drastically."

Srivastava said the number of people killed by the BSF across border was 55 in 2009 which came down to 32 in 2010. In the current year, seven people have been killed so far.

However, the number of injuries to BSF personnel increased after they were armed with the non-lethal weapons. "The criminals across the border are now emboldened as now they know the BSF would not kill them, so the injuries have increased. In 2010, 57 personnel were injured while in the current year, the number of injured is already 71. This surely is a matter of concern and we are looking into it," said Srivastava. :frusty:

Joint patrolling of the border would soon materialise as the formalities have been completed, he added. The BSF and the BGB man a 4,096 km border, of which 6.1 km has not been demarcated.

One can dismantle terrorist camps anywhere.

It requires political will.

Yet, on the other hand, India maybe has more faith in diplomacy!

As we repeatedly see with Pakistan.

Unfortunately, it seems that the faith is a bit misplaced as we haven't seen any results in last 5-10 years, even since Kargil.
Pretty sad state of affairs.

Can't we have a "wall of fire" on the BD border, like we have on the Pakistan border?

The fence and lighting on the Pak border is like one uninterrupted line of yellow, visible even from the international space station. Awesome images of the border were taken from space and posted on the net some time back.

Such a border is really the need of the hour with BD.

Some might say that it is a big waste of money. I would say that it is unavoidable expenditure. And anyway, the government spending will give a giant stimulus to the iron ore and steel industry, more so since ore companies stocks have dipped after export of ore was banned. Not to forget the solar and light bulb industry.

Just do it.

Is it possible when there is the police mentality prevailing?

How come people can exfiltrate with herds of cattle?

I failed to understand, why we ask such things when we can do covertly ? Isn't those terrorist will fly away after hearing such news which everyone knows now?

Bangladesh is very big pain for India. It's time for government to take it seriously. Illegal immigrants, Jihadi elements from likes of Jamaat, safe heaven for N-E terrorist.

But million dollar question when our leaders will do more and talk less ?

We ask so as not to make there current govt which is our ally lose an election because they allowed Indian army to enter there country.

Thats why i said give them time limit so they will be forced to do it. If they dont then we send in our special forces to get the job done.
