New Delhi: India and France on Monday began the first-ever joint army exercise to share their expertise in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations.

"The two-week exercise is aimed at enhancing combat skills, promoting mutual understanding and inter-operability between the two armies. 60 troops from French 13 Mountain Battalion and an equal number of soldiers from 2 Bihar regiment are participating in the exercise which is being held in Chaubattia in Ranikhet," an official release said here.

During the exercise codenamed "Shakti 2011", the troops from the two countries will practice basic combat tactics related to various aspects of counter-terrorism operations in detail and exchange their combat techniques and skills, it said.

"The training syllabus also includes sharing of each other's experiences and lessons drawn from operations undertaken by the two great armies," the release said.

The highlights of the training would be the final consolidation exercise in which troops of both armies will jointly plan and execute a series of counter-terrorist operations.

The joint operations will including techniques and employment of commandos in the thick forests on the outskirts of Ranikhet.

"The exercise is likely to enhance defence cooperation and military-to-military relations between the two nations and will be a harbinger to future cooperation in ensuring world peace and stability," the release said.

It is an RN Trafalgar SSN. The anechoic tiles are coming off and rusting the hull. It is synonymous with budget cuts.

Just like a certain set have a tendency to support and clamor over very foreign maal, as the uber stuff, there is another set who support every product India make, however bad it is or ineffective it is or dangerous to troops it is. Both of these are not good for the nation, we should be more german than the german, as it is the matter of our country's defense. We should have a objective and practical mind, Patka's are not really safe, it is a juggad made to assuage a certain religious sect, but it doesnt give the protection that is necessary for a soldier. Rajkhalsa in MP.net has given a good account of the Patka, but I still dont find it convincing. There are lots we have to do and change, if we are to achieve what we desire for in the next 20 years. China is a brilliant example, on how they are ready to change and adopt new policies, technique's, strategies and equipments. We should learn from them

Do you means MKU??? I still cant really believe that this company is located in our country and the majority of our troops are still wearing WW2 helmets lol
Not really. Now many of our troops wear these helmets and its changing as we speak. Patkas might look non-glamorous but are extremely effective. They're known to stop AK47 bullets and while it was designed for Sikh members of Indian Army, its effectiveness made it a choice of headgear for many regiments. Ghatak is one of them.
