Why are Chinese doing this NOW?

The land doesn't have great strategic value to risk open hostility with India.

The only reason I could thing of as : teach Modi a lesson so that more pliable Congress comes back to power.
India does not join Quad and foreign companies become apprehensive of investing in India.

So how did we control pp14?? There are things like boats . Galwan is a small river anyway.

You can't use boats it's mountain river.... Patrol by foot till PP14. There were no chene to untill we built bridge on Shyok and made ourselves available to move heavy vehicles towards Galwan valley... Basically nobody controlled PP14 it's just patrol point till chene built tents and June 15 attack on our troops!

In 2010 India bought cluster bombs from USA, 512 CBU-105 sensor-fused bombs to be specific.

These bombs can take out a entire formation including tanks. I wonder whether we still have these bombs and whether we are developing cluster bombs on our own by DRDO?

If the Chinese fire the first bullet, these bombs can literally wipe out Chinese in Ladakh and Aksai chin in a full all out blitzkrieg attack.

True but The Jag albeit a terrific fighter, needs a little bit of love, a new engine would have been good, it will be tough to keep this puppy going in the next decade. These bombs need to be integrated on the Rafale, LCA etc. as well.

How do you patrol by foot across a mountain river??

True but The Jag albeit a terrific fighter, needs a little bit of love, a new engine would have been good, it will be tough to keep this puppy going in the next decade. These bombs need to be integrated on the Rafale, LCA etc. as well.

Almost 40 jags were build during 1996-2007 they will serve till 2035 at the very least.

Unless China is defeated in its heartland - that is in the east; there is no chance to free Tibet. Because any forces sent from Indian side will meet heavy Chinese resistance coming from central China.

Even freeing up Aksai Chin does not seem viable in terms of cost. I think eventually Chinese will just leave these areas as these are hard to defend - for India as well as China. If China faces a shortage of resources, it will just abandon these areas.

Aksai Chin is not that heavily defended either. It is just a piece of land that China used for G219 highway. China will be more interested in saving Xinjiang than Aksai Chin. I think it is will within our limited offensive Range. We need political will though. Agree on Tibet point. It is a lost cause right now.

Those rivers are more rocks than water. Fast flowing current but not much depth. Boats are useless.

We may win war but we may loose our progress for long time .

You can always negotiate after capturing land. China has been sitting on aksai chin for 60 years and yet we were playing friends with them.

They are pretty sure we will still play with them even if they capture some more land. So they will keep doing it unless we also start to capture back and turn tables on them .
