I think there's a few things people need to understand about Taiwan before considering what a China-Taiwan war will result in:

1. Taiwanese people don't really want to go war against mainland China. Cross-straits economies, trades, everything barring politics and defenses are virtually inseparable. Nothing meaningful for Taiwanese to go total war against mainland and get flattened to the ground, they aren't suicidal over the inevitable loss by immense force of mainland forces at their very doorstep.

2. Military hardware are all outdated. Even with the premise of military purchase from western allies (generously) won't do meaningful shit. Mainland chinks don't get intimidated by such moves since they also see those newly bought western made weaponries by Taiwan as "potential spoils of war" to be captured (if they remain intact).

One of reasons why US is reluctant to offer sales of advanced weaponries to Taiwan: Fear of being seized. Not to mention the sheer number of mainland Sympathizers settling in Taiwan or those Taiwanese that are actually turncoats for mainland intelligence (think about those tech spies in US).

3. Conscription is fucking low. Even anti-CCP, anti-commie, anti-mainland Taiwanese will prefer to enlist in US military rather than ROC military (if they could).

4. ROCAF high rank officers are mostly KMT hardcores and they are on the fuss with Taiwan's current government that's dominated by DPP. Ideals of how nationalism of Taiwan should be shaped are also disputed between both sides.

As for disputes with SEA in SCS, nothing meaningful. Chinks now have more artificial islands, disoriented US, and SEA nations having disputes with each other.

Again, Taiwanese civilians are not Vietnamese farmers from the 1960s or Islamic goat herders willing to throw their lives away. Nobody in Taiwan is going to be fighting a guerilla war against China.

These are modern, comfortable people who want to live their lives and avoid conflict at all costs. The absolute worst you will get is some rioting like in Hong Kong.
Summaried well. My thoughts too.

That is a BIG IF. This isn't the 70s and China is not Mao's China anymore. There was never any contest between the British and Argentina. UK was the #3 power in the world behind USA & USSR and Argentina was a nobody that was conceited due to its well-performing economy making it a middle-income country back then. They assumed that just because they were a part of the Spanish Empire, they could take down such a powerful country. The rest of Falklands story we all know; the Gurkha regiment shredded Argentinian forces by the hundreds, while Royal Navy's Harrier jets flattened any expeditionary forces Argentina tried to send to Las Malvinas.

Look at Biden-Harris and tell me; do you really think they would put American boots on the ground against a country that can retaliate against its mainland?
No boots on the ground; just sink the ships carrying Chinese troops for invasion. That is where the Falkland analogy is perfect.

Chinese are smarter, they will posture but not invade.

I agree that it is not 70s. Taiwanese are much stronger now than in 70s. Moreover inferior, reverse engineered Chinese weapon will become their reasons of defeat.

They did see some very limited combat but it is widely believed/ rumoured that the Argentinean soldiers did panic when they heard about the Gurkhas and surrendered shortly after. Likely some fiction there but that's the story.

It is winter now, other than vacating forward posts in Ladakh LAC, no further advance is possible. Those invincible soldiers of PLA in the bitterest of cold will die first before they advance.

Chinese lost a lot of their prestige when India occupied Kailash Heights on August 29, 2020. They did not expect that. With that they were forced to withdraw from a number of advanced grounds they had occupied. With two incidents one and Galwan and other at Kailash Heights, Chinese got a big surprise. Now they began to rethink. The commander of the Chinese Army was changed a few times and all the troops (100%) were replaced. The new conscripts have never lived in -40 degrees at a height of 12000 to 17000 feet, hence if they refuse to fight then they cannot be blamed.

‘’Chinese are at loss what to do next. They shifted focus to Uttarakhand and later to Tawang. Both attempts to intimidate India were unsuccessful.

Now what next, …… They wish to preserve their prestige, hence seek a mutually acceptable settlement. A talk of commander has been scheduled. Prior to that to regain their prestige, they are stationing long range bomber only 300 miles away knowing fully well that S-400 can shoot them down. They pretended to station a lot of missiles. They knew fully well that these missiles do not target Indian troops on reverse heights, still the propaganda was say that they have an edge but not really. That infrastructure they talk about for last 20 years in the Plateau of Tibet where it is easy to build roads. In the heights which are snow covered ranging from 20,000 feet to valley of 10,000 building road is an uphill task. Their propaganda system confuses not so educated Indian minds. They have bought a few scribes to continue the propaganda war but of no use.

Their said invasion of Taiwan has moved to the back rooms, their success in the Himalayas is mostly for propaganda only, hence nothing is there for them to gain prestige……. Cheers.

Really? I have read a few British sources saying that the Gurkhas were deadly against the Argentinians. They could have been there in small numbers. Or maybe they could have been Gurkha soldiers of British citizenship because some even got commended for their performance.
