A-10 was operated after they had full control of airspace and really only example is dessert storm 1 and 2 which is full invasion. SU-25's also when there is no conflict in air but a couple of them got shotdown in syria and lot more in Afghanistan. In India's case against against china, its no use and against pakistan we have options.
No offense to the SU-25, but the A-10 is better at taking punishment and surviving. Any deployment of CAS fighters like the A-10 only happens after the air space has been sanitized, and in concert with other air force aircraft. A modernized version of the A-10 (with missiles and built in countermeasures to manpads) would be very useful against Chinese tanks and artillery in Ladakh region, and much more survivable than any helis because it flies faster and higher and can take a lot more punishment. This would ofcourse be after airspace sanitization by other IAF fighters, and with top cover provided by other IAF fighters. Look up the altitude limits of helis compared to the A-10. If India could create a modernized aircraft similar to A-10 with more wing area (for greater lift) for higher altitude operation, it could work in concert with helis like LCH, especially in areas where LCH is more vulnerable to manpads and anti-aircraft guns.

The truth is that the Chinese can only stay on the Indian borders stealing Indian territory as long as there is no full blown conflict. This has to do with the distances of the supply lines involved. In any full blown conflict, the first thing the two sides would do is to kill each others' supply lines. After that, India would gain a significant advantage due to the much shorter distances involved in re-supplying its soldiers. Once the Chinese supply lines (bridges, tunnels, railroads, etc) in Tibet and Aksai Chin are destroyed, it becomes a lot harder to rebuild that infrastructure in the mountainous areas in which it exists. After that, India could simply wait and watch as the Chinese run out of supplies, while stopping any attempts at resupplying PLA soldiers through the air. The Chinese are at the Indian borders only at the pleasure of India. The day the Indian government and military decide to go to full blown war, it's over for the PLA.

I agree, but we are unlikely to get that sort of air space control on China and them on us. Not even the US can hope to get that control on China as of now....thats all I am saying. China is a full spectrum power now and is going toe to toe with super powers and that is the reality we don't have to like but respect and plan accordingly for our defense. Actually su-25 is better protected as far as I know from small arms upto 12.5 mm and can even take off from unprepared runways but a-10 has more fire power

China is a paper tiger with fighter jets that look good on paper, but PLAAF doesn't have lasting power due to unreliability of engines as well as weak avionics. Don't go by their propaganda; they have serious problems. Their J-10 engines have serious reliability problems, and in any drawn out conflict, they would start dropping out of the sky due to engine failure. Then there is the rest of the PLAAF with older generation Russian engine copies which are even less reliable than their Russian counterparts. Chinese propaganda and PLAAF are there for intimidation, and wouldn't last too long against any half decent air force.
In any case, the point I was trying to make was that it would be better to have a CAS fighter like a modernized version of the A-10 supporting Indian troops alongside the LCH and Apache because of limitations of Helis in terms of protection, speed, altitude and firepower.

P.S. We can agree to disagree on the survivability of the A-10 vs the Su-25; I think the A-10 is better protected due to certain features which the su-25 lacks.
