Granted, everything bad that happens in Pakistan is always "raa ki saajish," but the "raa ki saajish" reports during the nationwide power blackouts Pakistan suffered recently stand out. They allege an Indian op.

China is underestimating the Indian/American ability to play cyber warfare.
America's ability for cyber warfare is vastly advanced as they have NSA, individual military cyber offensive teams for each unit, even coastguard. Also well built institutions like ISACs and private sector players like Fireeye etc to identify foreign CNE operations and defend against them for both private sectors and Govt entities

India is not considered a tier 1 cyberpower like USA, China or Russia, but the capability to carry out CNE against Chinese Infrastructure exists

Challenge is to setup the malware within the infrastructure undetected, this can take months, even years and the possibility and all can lost be lost in a instant once discovered.

I suspect this what has happened in this event, Chinese knew India would retaliate to cyber attack on its financial capital and the Indian response would allow them to identify Indian malwares in their strategic infrastructure

They have probably made us reveal our cards, though one can argue in the process Chinese have done the same

In any case, its base to square one for India and China as both would have to have lengthily and meticulous CNE campaigns to install malware in each other's strategic infrastructure

MH government's validation of the NYT report makes things official now. All the cameras will now turn to the Centre on what happened, and what it has done so far. It also strengthens our case at the WTO to block imports of chinese shit.

china is more connected than india as a part of their "surveillance" /social credit system infrastructure and hence very vulnerable.
hehe..
Thats just a start!

I'd actually argue that in a "dark" way, the Chinese have done us a favor through that cyber-attack. Power companies across India have a legally-valid reason to disqualify Chinese bidders from current and future tenders for decades, and we get higher quality equipment made by companies such as Siemens, Toshiba, Hitachi, etc. We also get to dictate to these companies that none of their products should have made-in-China components. It also incentivizes public investment into BHEL and BEL.

Also, this increases pressure on GoI to file a review-petition with the SC to get Sterlite Copper up and running again.

This makes a good case against china..when china wanted to do business post the cooling down at LC.

That "cyber cop" has just been outcucked by the State's energy minister. His musings are invalid.
To play the devil's advocate, the cop is right as origin of traffic cannot necessary mean attribution to the specific nation or nation's Govt

But overall this one has Chinese style written all over it given the poor effort to conceal itself

Chinese cyber attacks are very sloppy in concealing themselves. They rely on multiple campaigns, for this reason even small scale private sector entities like Recorded future in this case are able to catch them.
Unlike Western nation CNE such Canada, UK or USA only get discovered if there is global leak like the Snowden one

I feel this cyber attack by Chinese has been brought back into the news so aggressively to do a tit for tat action against them for releasing pictures and videos against India. This will just refresh memories of Indian public to continue boycott Chinese goods and keep up the economic pressure against them.

Yes, overall impact of a Cyberattack on China is much worse than India as their dependence is much higher

Also, overall much larger attack surface than India

Because for the last 6+ years and continuing.India has been plugging all leaks and been very vigilant in keeping all lids closed on information that there is no easy way enemies could get their hands on information through "contacts" and dalals.
Also those identified are fed wrong information that china suffers not just one doklam but a galwan too!

Information security is superbly tight..and enemies has to rely on cyber measures to fetch information.

This Govt certainly is much more responsive than the previous regime, but action is still late

For instance Indian military Tri-service cyber warfare command was activated in 2019
Defence Cyber Agency

However, Doval has been concerned about this long before he became the NSA, so not loosing much sleep on this
