The Chinese flood the Indian Northeast and other states every year by releasing dam water.
Also the Brahmos air-launched version has a range of 500 km.
An attack by a nuclear warhead of sufficient yield alone can guarantee its destruction. Such large and important dams are have built in tolerances to cater for powerful earth quakes, enemy bomb attack, sabotage etc. We don't have the inside information on how many tonnes of TNT it can withstand. Such design info will be kept secret.

An attack by a single Brahmos or even multiple will not bring down a structure weighing hundreds of thousands of tonnes and using thousands of tonnes of steel reinforcement. Detailed calculations need to be done to calculate how much of explosive power will be required and the weaknesses in the structure.

It is the biggest hydroelectric dam in the world and massive.
Nuclear weapons will need to be used, otherwise you would need thousands of missiles and sorties by bomber aircraft.

might be off topic but I don't think we will enjoy our superiority over PAF for very long.
Despite depleting squadron strength and old ageing aircraft Pakis continue to build new bases and Support infra as well as devising new strategies. This all can only mean one thing, China has given them assurance that they will help prop up Pakis Air force.

The newly inaugurated Air base at Bholari has 27 hardened shelters and two runways.

Those leaders and Generals who are sitting on their arse will cry tears of blood when first J 31 lands in Masroor.
PAF a few years back reached a conclusion that IAF should have too reached sometime back.

Sanctions lack of funding made PAF realise that their dreams of having a truly modern air force was never going to work.

They decided to tone down a bit and went with quantity has a quality of its own.

JF-17 is a inferior aircraft nothing much special about it.

But with block to block launch and regular updates with in house repair capability they have managed to reform their air force quite a bit.

They cannot gain air superiority over IAF not now not in the future but that was not their plan.

Their plan is to divert resources of the IAF too such an extent that they break on one front.

Over time china has been building airbases to deploy PlAAF in heavy numbers.

In the coming years IAF will indeed face problems as a preemptive strike on our bases by china can be devastating.

We don't have the numbers to shore up our squadron's and losses will have profound effect on the scope of our operations.

IAF has been trying to mitigate this problem through purchases of air defence systems and now the unified air command but a lot more still needs to be done.

The issue will really prop up when both jaguar and mig-21 retire.

We are looking at 200 aircraft being retired in the next few years.

Honestly I consider both mig-21 and jaguar obsolete both the airframes are old and jaguar's engine is underpowered both dont stand much of a chance against decent air defence systems.

They can still be useful in combined ops but their time has come.

IAF has a very difficult choice to make in the future let go of their dreams for high end fighters filling the whole of airforce and concentrate more on shoring up numbers or else we will he looking at parity not dominance on both fronts and many others factors come into play.

You don't want to leave so much to chance.

There is a crying need for atleast 200-250 single engined aircraft that can take off at short notice, has good A2A WVR+BVR capability but we keep oscillating between desi solution vs imported solution.
National security suffers.
IAF will fight with the Pilatus and Surya Kirans if it has to.
Babudom and MoD will never understand as no matter what, as civilians they will at most read an adverse media report about them in a remote corner of some news paper.

Defer the MQ-9 deal.
Get as many Chinooks with the same money instead.

Chinooks can lift a little over 4 tons. They are a force multiplier unmatched in many ways. The time + cost savings simply cannot be overlooked.

Agreed, Mi-17's can also lift 4 tons but they are already assigned their specific roles.
Actually the reason is different while mi-17 can carry 4 tons it cant carry m-777 ULH or any ULH we procure in the future.

Only Chinook has the capability and the safety standards to readily transport artillery and other important equipment.

We need them in large numbers.

High end fighters..... we ain't looking at purchasing 5th Gen fighters. Rafale is 4.5 gen and among the best ones from the MMRCA. Other fighters could not even fulfill the AF requirements. What fighters are you suggesting then? I think as of now, we can purchase more Rafales. Indigenous is the way to go. Once we have the Tejas Mk1A lines optimised, we can fill numbers. Get going on the engine collaboration front.

4.5 gen is a high end fighter nobody atleast till now has a proper 5th gen fighter in our neighborhood.

I was suggesting we mass produce tejas to shore up numbers.

Rafale wont be coming we can dream all we want but max to max we get an other 36 but nothing more.

The MMRCA contract is supposed to take another 3 years its just a joke at this point.

We should go for tejas and hopefully we get AMCA somewhere in the future as orca has already been rejected.

We need point defence fighters in the 100's to tackle all fronts.

Either Tejas or Gripen.

If we can scrounge around and get our hands on some M2Ks and Mig-29's, that would give us a breather for a while.

They need to increase Tejas numbers to fill in the gaps, and Air Marshall Mugerilal must be snapped out of seeing F-16 aur Grippen ke haseen sapne.
Aside from Su30 MKI only Mig 21 has the numbers of 200+ in the IAF, they need to be replaced with Tejas
